Charlotte Oven’s History

Charlotte Oven in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Oven is one of the children born to Charlotte Linlin, also known as Big Mom, and he is part of a set of triplets along with Katakuri and Daifuku, with Oven being the youngest among them. During their childhood, Oven and his triplet brothers shared a fondness for eating donuts together, reflecting their love for sweets, which is a characteristic trait of the Charlotte Family.

Whole Cake Island Arc

Oven actively participated in significant events within the Big Mom Pirates. He attended his mother's Tea Party and the subsequent wedding ceremony of Charlotte Pudding and Sanji. During the ceremony, Oven sat at a table positioned directly behind the Vinsmoke Family, waiting for the opportune moment to carry out their planned assassination. Their aim was to eliminate the Vinsmokes, who were considered threats to the Charlotte Family's interests.

Amidst the chaos caused by the Straw Hat Pirates' interference, Oven witnessed Jinbe, a prominent member of the Big Mom Pirates, officially resigning from the crew, which added to the escalating tensions at the ceremony. A significant clash occurred between Oven and Pedro, a member of the Straw Hat Pirates, after Brook destroyed the picture of Mother Carmel.

Oven used his Devil Fruit powers, which allow him to manipulate heat, to transfer intense heat to his sword during the confrontation. This made the weapon too hot for Pedro to handle, putting him at a disadvantage. Oven recognized Pedro from a previous encounter and vowed to exact revenge, intending to burn him alive for daring to return and interfere once again.

The situation further escalated when Monkey D. Luffy triggered Big Mom's uncontrollable screaming, causing Oven and other members of the Big Mom Pirates to become momentarily immobilized. During this time, Oven expressed concern as the Fire Tank Pirates launched their weapons towards Big Mom. However, Big Mom's scream destroyed the incoming projectiles before they could reach her.

Katakuri then provided Oven with earplugs, protecting him from Big Mom's devastating screams. As the situation intensified, Oven seized the opportunity to capture Tony Tony Chopper, one of the Straw Hat Pirates, while Bege's allies were retreating into Bege's fortress. However, his actions were swiftly countered when Vinsmoke Niji, a member of the Vinsmoke Family, kicked him away after donning his raid suit.

The confrontation between the Big Mom Pirates and the alliance of Bege and the Vinsmoke Family continued, with Big Mom assaulting the fortress where they sought refuge. Oven and the other Big Mom Pirates surrounded the fortress, prepared to attack anyone who attempted to escape. When Bege transformed back into human form and the Vinsmoke Family made their escape, the Big Mom Pirates unleashed a volley of bullets towards them.

However, the Vinsmoke brothers Ichiji and Niji intercepted the gunfire, protecting their family members from harm. After the Big Mom Pirates successfully routed Luffy's group, Bege's crew, and the Vinsmoke Family, a crucial turn of events occurred. The Tamatebako, a mysterious treasure chest, accidentally fell to the base of the Whole Cake Chateau and exploded, causing the entire castle to collapse.

As the Big Mom Pirates and their adversaries fell with the crumbling structure, they were miraculously saved when Streusen, a member of the Big Mom Pirates with the power to manipulate food, transformed the falling castle into a massive cake, preventing disaster and cushioning their fall.

In the aftermath of the castle's transformation, Oven stood alongside some of his siblings and crewmates, contemplating the recent turn of events. Their attention was then drawn by Smoothie, another high-ranking member of the Big Mom Pirates, who informed them of Big Mom's sudden craving illness for wedding cake.

The entire crew was shocked by this revelation. Perospero, one of Big Mom's sons, quickly redirected her attention towards the Straw Hat Pirates, diverting her craving for the time being. Meanwhile, Pudding, another member of the Big Mom Pirates, explained her plan to Oven and the others, outlining her strategy to satisfy Big Mom's craving and avoid further chaos.

Subsequently, Oven and his troops headed to Cacao Island, intending to ambush the Straw Hat Pirates upon their arrival. They received instructions from Pudding not to enter the Sweets Factory, where a substitute wedding cake was being prepared. However, while following Pudding's orders, Oven noticed a commotion outside the factory.

He encountered his stepfather, Pound, and without hesitation, launched an attack to drive him away from the vicinity. As Pudding and her crew emerged from the factory, she briefed Oven on her plan. Oven allowed them to pass but directed his aggression towards Chiffon, who had been involved in Bege's failed assassination attempt on Big Mom.

Pound, desperate to protect his daughter, charged at Oven, but just as it seemed that Pound's punch would connect, Sanji swiftly intervened, delivering a powerful kick to Oven's neck, sending him crashing into a nearby building. Although Oven did not witness Sanji's presence, he realized that Pound did not strike him and resumed his assault on his stepfather.

Soon after, Oven caught up with Pudding's entourage and confronted Chiffon once again, receiving a report that Bege's ship was approaching Cacao Island. Seizing the opportunity, Oven contacted Bege, holding Chiffon hostage and demanding his surrender. However, as Bege's ship, the Nostra Castello, drew near, Bege retaliated by shooting Oven in the face with an explosive round.

The powerful shot propelled Oven backward over a significant distance, but he quickly recovered from the attack, displaying his resilience once more. As Oven prepared himself to confront Bege, he was taken by surprise when Bege maneuvered the Nostra Castello onto Cacao Island, showcasing its remarkable ability to travel across land with tank treads. The revelation left Oven astounded, realizing that Bege had a unique and unconventional means of transportation.

His astonishment continued when Sanji employed a powerful kick to elevate the carriage carrying Chiffon's group and the wedding cake, effortlessly placing them onto the deck of Bege's ship. Witnessing this unexpected maneuver, Oven found himself in disbelief at the ingenuity and skill displayed by the Straw Hat Pirates. Undeterred, Oven stood his ground as the Nostra Castello charged toward him.

However, he was unable to withstand the full force of the ship's impact and found himself being run over. Despite the collision, Oven emerged from the encounter largely unscathed and swiftly made his way to the dock. As the Fire Tank Pirates retreated back to the sea, Oven retaliated by employing his Devil Fruit powers to heat up the surrounding ocean in an attempt to hinder their escape. His efforts were interrupted when Pound, wielding a massive wooden club, struck Oven with significant force. Although the blow failed to inflict lasting harm, it did not go unanswered.

After dealing with Pound, Oven mustered a massive fleet to barricade Cacao Island, anticipating the arrival of the Straw Hat Pirates. In communication with Mont-d'Or and Count Niwatori on Whole Cake Island, Oven discovered that the Tamatebako they had received from the Straw Hats played a pivotal role in the collapse of the Chateau. Seizing the opportunity, Oven formulated a trap to ensnare Luffy, issuing orders to the island's citizens to destroy every mirror except for one.

This remaining mirror was surrounded by Oven's forces, poised to ambush Luffy should he manage to escape through it. As the plan unfolded, Oven was joined by many of his siblings, reinforcing their defenses and preparing for the imminent clash. In response to one of his decuplet brothers questioning the scale of the operation, Oven asserted that they had no better alternative and urged them to follow through with the plan to ambush Luffy and his allies.

The stage was set for a decisive confrontation on Cacao Island, with Oven and the Big Mom Pirates prepared to face off against their adversaries. As the decuplet brother questioned the possibility of Katakuri's defeat, Oven dismissed any notion of his brother's loss, confidently asserting that there was no chance for Katakuri to be defeated.

Oven presumed that Luffy would opt to flee the duel instead. With the Straw Hats' designated rendezvous time drawing near, Oven and his comrades braced themselves for an assault on Luffy. However, their plans took an unexpected turn when Pekoms and the captive Brûlée emerged from the mirror, with no sign of Luffy.

In response, Pekoms transformed into his Sulong form, prompting Oven to command his army to attack.

He ignited Pekoms' flintlock and targeted his own crewmate, intending to force Luffy out of hiding. The diversion created by Pekoms allowed Sanji to swoop in and carry Luffy into the sky. Oven revealed that they were prepared for this possibility, as Yuen and some of his decuplet brothers engaged the two Straw Hats in combat.

But their skirmish was abruptly interrupted by an assault from Germa 66, leaving Oven both bewildered and infuriated. Oven was left aghast when the Vinsmoke siblings informed him of their victory over Nusstorte's army. His shock intensified when Brûlée disclosed that Luffy had emerged triumphant against Katakuri.

Consumed by rage, Oven attempted to attack Luffy and Sanji with his naginata, seeking retribution. However, his assault was thwarted when Ichiji unleashed an energy blast, causing significant injury to Oven. The Vinsmoke siblings proceeded to incapacitate numerous members of Oven's forces, creating an opening for Luffy and Sanji to make their escape.

As the duo took flight from Cacao Island, Oven contacted Snack, Brownie, and Joconde, instructing them to intercept and deal with the fleeing Straw Hats from their blockade ships. However, his calls went unanswered, as Vinsmoke Reiju incapacitated many of the crew members aboard the blockade fleet.

Meanwhile, Brûlée made her way to resupply the crew with stronger bullets, while Oven ventured into the Mirro-World, using it as a means to access one of the blockade ships. Taking advantage of the Sun Pirates' assistance in aiding the Straw Hats' escape from the Big Mom Pirates' fleet, Oven unleashed his Nekkai Jigoku ability on the ocean, forcing the Sun Pirates to retreat and leaving the Thousand Sunny vulnerable to attack from the Queen Mama Chanter.

Fortunately, Wadatsumi intervened and saved the Sunny by swapping it with the Sun Pirates' ship. In an attempt to prevent Wadatsumi from escaping with the Sunny, Oven unleashed scorching heat waves, causing the giant to expel the ship from his mouth. The Sun Pirates continued to engage in battle, briefly clashing with Oven. However, Oven's pursuit of the Straw Hats was hindered by their persistent distractions.

Germa 66's Ahh... An Emotionless Excursion

Following the capture of Niji and Yonji by the Big Mom Pirates, Oven was assigned the duty of guarding the imprisoned Vinsmoke brothers, who were confined within a book. He maintained a watchful eye over the book as it was put on display in Cacao Island. When Pudding assaulted the Vinsmokes, Oven seized the opportunity to retrieve the book and transported it through the Mirro-World back to Whole Cake Island.

He entrusted the book to Prim, Brownie, Kato, and Anana, who were tasked with conducting experiments on the captive siblings. However, their plans were disrupted when Reiju and Ichiji infiltrated the laboratory and successfully liberated their imprisoned family members. Oven, accompanied by Katakuri, intervened and engaged the Vinsmoke siblings in battle.

Their confrontation took an unexpected turn when Caesar Clown released a cloud of gas, causing Oven and Katakuri to fall victim to hallucinations, resulting in a chaotic clash between the two Big Mom Pirates.

Charlotte Oven’s Personality

Oven's unwavering loyalty lies with his mother, Charlotte Linlin, and he dutifully carries out her orders without question. This loyalty extends to even the most extreme actions, as demonstrated when he participated in the exile of former husbands by attacking Pound when he intruded on Cacao Island to see his daughter, Chiffon. Oven's commitment to his mother's commands is absolute, and he shows no hesitation in carrying out her will.

Protecting the well-being of his siblings is also of paramount importance to Oven. He exhibits a strong sense of care and concern for them, evident when he became enraged upon witnessing Pekoms holding his younger sister Brûlée at gunpoint. This incident ignited Oven's fiercely protective instincts, driving him to take immediate action to ensure his sister's safety.

Additionally, Oven holds a deep respect for his older brother Katakuri and holds him in high regard. This respect is so significant that upon learning of Luffy's victory over Katakuri, Oven was consumed by anger and attacks Luffy in a fit of rage.

Charlotte Oven in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

While Oven prioritizes the safety and well-being of his family, he also takes betrayals very seriously. He displayed this when he did not hesitate to attack his own sister, Chiffon, for her involvement in Bege's plot to assassinate Big Mom, despite her assistance in creating the substitute wedding cake.

Oven's commitment to justice and loyalty outweighed any familial ties, and he acted accordingly. Similarly, he also confronted and took action against Praline, another family member, for aligning herself with the Sun Pirates, perceiving it as a betrayal of their collective loyalty.

In battle, Oven possesses some level of perceptiveness as he can recognize the struggles and consequences faced by his opponents. However, this understanding does not translate into mercy or compassion, as seen during his fight with Pedro. He acknowledges the hardships his adversaries endure but remains unyielding in his pursuit of victory.

Additionally, Oven is not above resorting to underhanded tactics, exemplified by his plot to use Chiffon as a hostage to force Bege into surrendering. Pride is a prominent characteristic of Oven's personality. He carries a strong sense of pride in himself, his crew, and their status as part of an Emperor's pirate crew.

This pride is showcased when he stubbornly refused to move out of the path of the Nostra Castello, allowing Bege's ship to run him over. He believed in the strength and reputation of his crew, and his pride was deeply shaken when Germa 66 ambushed them at Cacao Island, as he had been certain that Nusstorte's army would utterly defeat and annihilate the Vinsmoke family.

Oven's pride also led him to adamantly deny the possibility of Katakuri losing against Luffy, and he was completely shocked when he learned of his older brother's defeat. However, Oven's pride and confidence can sometimes make him a hypocrite. He refuses to acknowledge Pound as his stepfather, yet he expressed anger and outrage when Pound attempted to attack him, referring to himself as Pound's stepson.

Oven's anger can be a double-edged sword. While his fury can fuel his determination, it can also cloud his judgment and lead him to make rash decisions. This is evident when he attempted to sink the Nostra Castello, disregarding the potential consequences of the substitute wedding cake needed to pacify Big Mom's craving rampage. Furthermore, his temper flares to extreme levels, as shown by his intense fury when Bege shot him in the face.

Charlotte Oven’s Appearance

Oven possesses an imposing and muscular physique, significantly towering over individuals like Pedro. His physical stature is accentuated by his thick neck, and he sports a distinct hairstyle consisting of three curved sections. His hair exhibits a gradient color scheme, transitioning from blond at the roots to a dark orange shade. Adding to his unique appearance, Oven's skin bears a faint pink tint.

In terms of attire, Oven is typically seen wearing a striking ensemble. He dons a high-collared orange cape that is fastened at the front with a yellow bow, adding a touch of elegance to his appearance. Complementing his cape, he wears short gloves, a wide belt featuring a circular buckle, capri-style pants, striped socks, and loafers.

It's worth noting that when Oven activates his Devil Fruit powers, his cloak darkens in color, reflecting the change brought about by his abilities. During his childhood, Oven sported a long-sleeved shirt with front ties, along with orange and yellow pants, suggesting a vibrant and energetic style even at a young age.

Charlotte Oven’s Abilities

As the Minister of Browned Food and an officer of the Big Mom Pirates, Oven holds significant authority within the crew and plays a crucial role in Totto Land's governance over Yakigashi Island. His position grants him control and decision-making power over culinary matters and the island's affairs.

Recognized as one of the formidable forces within the Big Mom Pirates, Oven is considered a "monster" by his crewmate Vito, alongside his Sweet Commander siblings, Katakuri and Smoothie. His reputation and capabilities have earned him a substantial bounty of Beli 300,000,000, making him a recognized threat by the World Government.

Oven showcases his strategic thinking and planning abilities by devising practical and well-executed strategies to counter his enemies. For instance, he ordered the destruction of all mirrors on Cacao Island, except for a single large mirror in the town square, effectively limiting the potential escape routes for individuals traversing the Mirro-World.

Furthermore, he demonstrates strong coordination skills, efficiently mobilizing his siblings and soldiers to set up traps and defensive formations, showcasing his leadership capabilities. Oven possesses strong willpower, exemplified by his ability to withstand a blast of Haoshoku Haki from Big Mom herself and remain conscious in the face of her powerful scream.

This resilience and mental fortitude contribute to his effectiveness as a commanding figure within the Big Mom Pirates. Oven is proficient in Busoshoku Haki (Armament Haki) and Kenbunshoku Haki (Observation Haki). These advanced Haki abilities further enhance his combat prowess, allowing him to strengthen his attacks and perceive his opponents' movements with heightened clarity.

Physical Abilities

Oven possesses extraordinary physical strength that sets him apart as a formidable combatant. This is demonstrated when he effectively blocks a sword strike from Pedro, a highly skilled mink known for effortlessly cutting through metal armor and shields. Furthermore, Oven effortlessly overwhelms Chopper in his Kung-Fu Point form, showcasing his superior strength and ability to overpower opponents.

Despite being caught off guard by Vinsmoke Niji's surprise attack, empowered by his advanced Raid Suit, Oven remains unharmed, highlighting his exceptional resilience and durability. His punches are characterized by immense power, enabling him to deliver impactful blows even against larger adversaries such as Chiffon and Pound.

Oven's reputation for having the sturdiest body among all the Charlotte sons further solidifies his exceptional durability. This is evident when he endures a forceful kick to the shoulder from Sanji, which propels him into a building. Nevertheless, Oven swiftly recovers, sustaining only minor bruises. In another instance, he withstands a powerful blow to the head from a giant club swung by his stepfather Pound, a strike intended to knock him into the ocean.

Remarkably, Oven remains rooted in place, exhibiting his unyielding resilience. Notably, he even withstands being run over by Bege's enormous ship, the Nostra Castello, without any discernible impact on his well-being. Additionally, when confronted with an explosive shot to the face from Bege's gun, Oven endures the attack, suffering only minor wounds.

Even after sustaining more severe injuries from Vinsmoke Ichiji's "Sparking Red" ability, Oven swiftly recuperates, retaining sufficient strength to continue his fight and issue commands to his subordinates. In terms of agility, Oven displays impressive speed and reflexes.

He swiftly closes the distance to strike Pound after lying among the rubble several meters away, highlighting his ability to react swiftly and decisively. Additionally, Oven demonstrates his rapid pace by quickly catching up to the seal-drawn carriage driven by Pudding. However, his awareness is momentarily compromised, as he fails to detect Sanji's unexpected kick.

Devil Fruit

Oven possesses the Netsu Netsu no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the power to emit and control high levels of heat from his body. By harnessing the abilities of this Devil Fruit, Oven gains a significant advantage in combat.

One of the primary applications of his Devil Fruit powers is the augmentation of his melee attacks. By superheating his body, Oven can imbue his strikes with intense heat, effectively burning anything he hits. This ability allows him to inflict additional damage and create a hazardous environment for his adversaries.

The transference of heat is a notable aspect of Oven's abilities. He can superheat objects and individuals he comes into physical contact with, utilizing heat's natural property of transfer. This enables him to heat up his own weapons, such as his large naginata, making them more potent and capable of inflicting greater damage.

Similarly, Oven can also heat up his opponent's weapons, rendering them too hot to handle effectively. Furthermore, he can melt through barriers or obstacles obstructing his path by raising their temperature to a melting point. Impressively, Oven can even project his heat without direct physical contact. He demonstrated this when he seemingly projected his heat onto Pekoms' gun, causing it to ignite and burst into flames.

Moreover, with a merely focused glare, he can set objects and individuals ablaze at will, as shown when he ignited Wadatsumi and Aladine by directing his gaze towards them. Oven's control over heat extends beyond close-quarters combat. He has the ability to superheat large bodies of water, such as the ocean, by merely submerging his hands into it.

This causes the water to rapidly boil and become extremely dangerous for ships and aquatic creatures. It serves as a potent tactic against fish-men and other maritime foes, as it creates an inhospitable environment. Additionally, Oven possesses the capability to manipulate the flow of heat within the water, enabling him to launch torpedoes of pure heat through aquatic environments.
