Denjiro in One Piece

Denjiro is a Samurai from Wano Country. He was one of Kozuki Oden's retainers called the Nine Red Scabbards. After Oden’s execution, Denjiro's looks changed and he began going by the name Kyoshiro. He gained supporters and established the Kyoshiro Family as a yakuza leader under his new identity. He eventually began serving as the shogun Kurozumi Orochi's bodyguard and money charger.

History

Past

Denjiro was an orphan and he had scammed a pot trader. When he ran into Kin'emon, the latter showed him a white boar and Denjiro told Kin'emon that the boar was a child of the Mountain God. Later, Kozuki Oden walked up to them and asked that they give him the boar. Denjiro praised Oden as he tried to take the boar away from Kin'emon. When Kin'emon tried to attack the Mountain God, he was anxious. However, he was in awe when he watched Oden slay the beast. Denjiro made the decision to join Oden as he left the city to go into exile. Denjiro joined Oden's retainers after he acquired the position of the daimyo of Kuri.

As they were short on cash, Denjiro tried to rob Yasuie but they got caught. Yasuie didn't punish them; instead, he let them keep the money and urged them to use it to improve themselves for the sake of Oden and Wano Country. They followed his advice and trained to become worthy warriors. They, later on, traveled to the Flower Capital. Oden and his retainers were sharing a meal with the Whitebeard Pirates where Denjiro, Kanjuro, Kin'emon, and Raizo spoke up against Oden's wish to join the crew. After the Whitebeard Pirates had already left Wano, the retainers discovered that Oden, Izou, Inuarashi, and Nekomamushi had left with them. The retainers stuck by Oden for the following five years despite him acting like a fool and losing the respect of the majority of Wano people after failing to slay Kurozumi Orochi.

The group was confronted by Kaidou and his team in the Udon area while they were traveling to Onigashima. Denjiro and Kanjuro fought Queen and Shinobu joined the samurai but they were defeated. Oden and the Nine Red Scabbards were imprisoned and were given a sentence to be burned alive in three days. Oden made a deal with Kaidou saying that Kaidou should let his men go and in return, he will offer himself. As Oden passed away the Scabbards ran away in sadness. Denjiro and Ashura Doji separated from the group to fight with their enemies while they were being pursued. Denjiro managed to get away and found an abandoned shrine on top of a hill, where he became angry about Oden's death. Denjiro then started to introduce himself as Kyoshiro.

Later on, Denjiro vowed to protect Orochi and provide the shogun more wealth in exchange for his services. Denjiro became the leading yakuza boss once Orochi gave his permission, and he and his supporters came to be known as the Kyoshiro Family. Later on, Denjiro met with Kozuki Hiyori and he revealed his true identity to her. He started to raise her and made her into an oiran and gave her an alien, Komurasaki. As Orochi had fallen in love with Komurasaki, he told her to carry fake blood beneath her kimono so he could pretend she died if the situation called for it.

Wano Country Arc

At the banquet, Denjiro got praise for both protecting his subordinates from attack and for supporting Komurasaki, whom Orochi was dating. Denjiro's use of extreme power was acknowledged by Orochi, who also used the occasion to discuss Toki's prophecy. When Toko started to make fun of Orochi, Denjiro began to fight with him. When Orochi took the look of a dragon with many heads, he lost control and one of the heads grabbed Komurasaki. Denjiro sliced her with a view to murder her when she managed to escape from his hands. Orochi was taken aback and angered by his actions as he thought Komurasaki was dead, but Denjiro reminded him of her crime. He then found a card that had Kin'emon's secret message.

When Denjiro came back to the Red-Light District, he found out that Komurasaki's funeral had been postponed. Denjiro boldly said that there was nothing more he could have done and that he had already experienced his greatest loss. Denjiro said that Orochi was extremely furious as a result of Kin'emon's secret message. Denjiro was left in command of the Flower Capital on the day of the Fire Festival when Orochi traveled to Onigashima. Denjiro was caught off guard when the Straw Hats unexpectedly took control of the harbor in front of Onigashima. Denjiro and Kin'emon arrived at Onigashima through the front with the rest of the alliance, while the other Scabbards traveled to the back of the island with the Heart Pirates in Law's submarine. Denjiro took off his Beasts Pirates disguise as the group approached a gate on the route to their destination.

When Denjiro and Kin'emon reunited with the other Scabbards and Izou, they discovered Kanjuro lying on the ground defeated. They made their way into Kaidou's castle, started fighting to reach the Performance Stage, and attacked Kaidou from every angle. The Scabbards were able to hurt Kaidou as they were falling to the lower floor. As the Scabbards held on to him, Kaidou transformed into his dragon form and flew to the roof of the Skull Dome as the alliance showed themselves and attacked the Beasts Pirates. The Scabbards prepared on the roof to face Kaidou with help from the Mink Tribe. Later, Law, Big Mom, Eustass Kid, Killer, Roronoa Zoro, and Monkey D. Luffy arrived at the roof. Law sent the Scabbards to a safe place at Luffy's request. Later on, the Scabbards recovered and woke up, to a mysterious figure that had already vanished.

Denjiro recognized that it was Kanjuro's creation when Ashura exposed it as a fake and started fighting it. Ashura gave his life to force the fake Oden out of the body, rescuing the other people while the real Oden attempted to blow itself up with the Scabbards. They then went out in search of Momonosuke and Kanjuro. The rest of the group came upon Orochi and Fukurokuju, who were lighting fires throughout the castle. Orochi made fun of them before changing into a different shape and attacking, but they cut off his head and ran away thinking he had died. Raizo then remained to battle Fukurokuju. Denjiro departed from the group along the way. Hiyori approached Orochi to give her a reply despite Denjiro warning her to be cautious, and after seeing her, Orochi died in the fire.

Nekomamushi then stated that Momonosuke had successfully landed on the island and that Luffy defeated Kaidou. The Scabbards join Hiyori as they calm the residents of the Flower Capital when Momonosuke informs them that Kaido's reign is over. When Momonosuke reappears in his human form, the Scabbards drop to their knees before him. Denjiro broke down in tears as Momonosuke made his speech known to the entire country and the new shogun was announced. Later, Denjiro and other Kozuki Retainers ran outside to block Admiral Ryokugyu from entering the Flower Capital as soon as they saw him coming. Ryokugyu said that he wanted to go after Luffy. The admiral had to leave the country just as they were going through another attack. Many days later, Denjiro and the others bid farewell to the Straw Hats in the early hours of the day.

Personality

Denjiro took great pride in his ability to influence others and achieve his goals. He was an avid supporter of Kozuki Oden and admired him for his deeds. Because of how devastating Oden's death was, Denjiro's face shape changed as a result of the mourning process. Despite his deep hatred for Orochi, Denjiro showed excellent emotional control, as Denjiro is an up-to-date person who would take on the role of teaching. Denjiro has also shown to be quite kind and is seen to work hard secretly to provide help to the people left homeless by Orochi's rule. As Kyoshiro, Denjiro is a happy man who enjoys drinking and is prone to fast mood changes. Denjiro does not seem to worry about his duties as the head of his family because of his vanity but is devoted when he feels like it.

Appearance

Denjiro is a tall, muscular man who has round eyes with blue hair that he keeps in a ponytail. He can be seen wearing sunglasses with a dark kimono with a small crescent moon on the left side of his chest. As a kid, he used to wear a dark kimono with a four-leaf clover. Later on, in the anime, Denjiro’s appearance changes; he had slanted eyes, and did not wear his sunglasses with sideburns. He wore a dark blue kimono with circles and target patterns on it with a blue-collared cape.

Denjiro’s abilities, strengths, and fighting style

Denjiro is extremely strong. He easily took out two men who attacked him when he first entered the Flower Capital as Kyoshiro. Denjiro showed his amazing speed when running and leaping across roofs while stealing homes at night as Ushimitsu Kozo. Denjiro was highly intelligent and charming from a young age, and he used these qualities to deceive and con others. He also showed an extensive knowledge of the yakuza structure in the Flower Capital. He also picked stuff up more quickly than his other Nine Red Scabbards when they were learning on their own, which he eventually taught them. While he was Kyoshiro, Denjiro proved to be very cunning and was successful in gaining the trust of Orochi.

Denjiro is a skilled burglar because of both his charm and his breaking into other people's houses to make money. Denjiro is an excellent strategist because of his intelligence. He took full advantage of his new look and put on an act in front of Orochi and became one of his most trusted servants in order to gain wealth and power that allowed him to carry out his goal of helping the Kozuki Family. Denjiro was smart enough to use his temporary power over the Flower Capital to free District prisoners so they could join him in the Kozuki rebellion. Denjiro also has the highest level of swordsmanship skill.

Denjiro is a master in Busoshoku Haki. He uses it to harden his sword and he has an advanced level of Busoshoku Haki.

Relationships

Kin’emon

Kin'emon is one of Denjiro’s oldest and closest friends. They were friends even before they met Kozuki Oden. Kin'emon was shocked as well as happy when he recognized Denjiro when he returned to the Scabbards during the raid when he introduced himself to his old friend while remembering how he caused the Mountain God Incident. He holds Kin'emon in the highest regard.

Nine Red Scabbards

In the past, Denjiro got along well with those around him and worked with them to serve Oden efficiently. Denjiro had been anticipating their return for the past 20 years while using his Kyoshiro alias to get close to Orochi in order to look for a chance to take advantage of Orochi's trust. When Denjiro showed himself to his old team during the raid, they were incredibly shocked by the way he looked but also happy to see him. In addition to reuniting with the Scabbards, Denjiro also brought reinforcements.

Kozuki Oden

Denjiro has always had a great deal of regard for Oden. He sees Oden as being superior to other people who he finds stupid, and his admiration for Oden grew after seeing him battle the Mountain God. After Oden was banished from the Flower Capital, Denjiro made an impulsive decision to follow him out of respect. Even though Denjiro had the utmost regard for Oden, he did have to lecture him sometimes when he would continue to give money away so easily to others without taking their country’s interests into consideration.

Kozuki Hiyori

Denjiro became overwhelmed with emotion upon meeting Hiyori after she had been separated from Kawamatsu and told her of his real identity. He took the role of her second guardian after getting to know what had occurred to Kawamatsu and used his money and resources to raise her and train her to become the highest-ranking courtesan.

Kozuki Momonosuke

Denjiro considered Kozuki Momonosuke as the next shogun and the rightful lord of Wano. He was ready to help to bring the young shogun back along with the other retainers.

Kyoshiro Family

As the head of the Kyoshiro Family, Denjiro performed a sakazuki ceremony. If any of them are mistreated, he will take the necessary measures to bring those at fault to justice. In order to make sure that his subordinates are supported, he tells them to get in touch with the Beasts Pirates. It appears that people who support him are dedicated enough to him to stand with him against Orochi and the Beasts Pirates.

Kurozumi Orochi

Denjiro had a lot of hate and resentment for Orochi because he was one of the two people responsible for Oden's death. Since he had carefully worked for 20 years to earn his trust, he pretended to have unwavering commitment and devotion to the latter until it was time to overthrow him and restore the Kozuki Family to power.

Kurozumi Kanjuro

Denjiro and Kanjuro had been close friends and loyal servants of Oden in the past. Denjiro discovered Kanjuro was the spy during the operation, but he thought Kin'emon was deceiving him.

Beasts Pirates

Denjiro tricked the crew into believing he was Kyoshiro and were relieved to see him show up during the raid when fighting with their enemies. When Kaidou discovered that Kyoshiro is truly Denjiro, he was shocked. Kaidou became extremely worried to fight the Scabbards in combat outside the Skull Dome when one of the Scabbards actually hurt him and caused him to cry in pain.
