Gecko Moria’s History

At the age of 26, Gecko Moria traveled to Loguetown where he attended the execution of Gol D. Roger. Inspired by Roger's speech about his treasure, One Piece, Moria developed a dream of becoming the new Pirate King. After the execution, Moria raised his flag and began making a name for himself in the pirate world.

A year later, with a bounty of Beli 320,000,000, Moria's Gecko Pirates clashed with the Beasts Pirates in Wano's Ringo region. During the battle, Moria stole the corpse of Ryuma and the legendary sword Shusui from Ryuma's grave. Unfortunately, the clash resulted in the death of Moria's entire crew.

Devastated by his defeat, Moria sought to acquire enough power to challenge Kaido. His perspective on crewmates led him to pursue an undead crew. Returning to his home sea of West Blue, Moria constructed Thriller Bark, a massive ship made from the remains of a gigantic zombie. Subsequently, he joined the Seven Warlords of the Sea, resulting in his bounty being frozen.

At some point, Moria accepted Absalom into the Thriller Bark Pirates and discovered a child named Perona, whom he raised as his own. Moria implanted stolen shadows into corpses to create zombie minions with the help of Dr. Hogback, who sought to revive his deceased love, Victoria Cindry.

Moria stole corpses from various locations worldwide, including those of John, Ryuma, and Oars from the Land of Ice, to bolster his army. Thriller Bark, situated in the Florian Triangle, became an ambush point for Moria's crew. They targeted individuals with strong shadows, such as high-bounty pirates, in order to steal their shadows and create zombie minions.

Five years ago, a skeleton named Brook arrived at Thriller Bark seeking to repair his ship's rudder. Moria captured Brook and implanted his shadow into Ryuma's corpse. However, Brook returned to Thriller Bark to retrieve his shadow and purged several of Moria's zombies. While Ryuma defeated Brook, Moria was left to rebuild his army from the chaos caused by the encounter.

Thriller Bark Arc

After waking up from his four-day sleep, Moria was informed by his servants about the planned night attack on the Straw Hat Pirates. He prepared for the assault and, as the attack began, he captured the shadows of Sanji and Roronoa Zoro. Moria implanted their shadows into zombie creations, Inuppe and Jigoro, respectively. Luffy was also brought before Moria, who expressed his desire to become the Pirate King.

Moria criticized his subordinates for bickering and reminded them of their purpose in witnessing the birth of a powerful zombie. Luffy attempted to escape but was stopped by Perona's Horo Horo no Mi ability, allowing Moria to sever his shadow. With Luffy's shadow in his possession, Moria believed he was one step closer to becoming the Pirate King.

Moria ordered his subordinates to open the door to the special freezer, intending to revive a legendary being. However, Moria was alerted to Brook's return and the purification of his zombies. Undeterred, he proceeded to the special freezer with his companions, where he encountered the corpse of Oars.

Moria claimed ownership of Luffy's shadow and infused it into Oars's corpse, successfully reviving him. Oars broke free from the freezer and Moria reveled in his creation's power. He explained to Oars that he was a legendary villain from five hundred years ago, but Oars refused to serve him and broke out of Thriller Bark.

Moria saw Oars as an opportunity to obtain even stronger shadows and create more powerful zombies. When informed about Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji waking up and learning to purify zombies, Moria listened with interest but relied on Perona to handle them. He chose to stay and confront Oars.

Luffy confronted Moria, demanding the return of the stolen shadows. Moria revealed that only he could return the shadows and believed Luffy was not strong enough to defeat him. He explained his philosophy of relying on others' strength to become the Pirate King and noted the similarity between Luffy and Oars in their determination. Moria attacked Luffy but was surprised when Luffy struck back with a powerful kick.

Oars returned under Moria's control, and Moria ordered him to attack the Straw Hat Pirates. Moria retreated while Luffy pursued him. Moria taunted Luffy, confident that his crewmates would fall victim to his underlings while Luffy was distracted by chasing him. In a confrontation, Luffy tackled Moria but realized it was actually an illusion created by Doppelman.

As Thriller Bark started moving out of the Florian Triangle due to Oars's meddling with the rudder, Moria dismissed the issue, as long as they remained on the ocean. He then turned his attention to Bartholomew Kuma, who had arrived as a guest. Recognizing Kuma as the Warlord of the Sea known for following the World Government's orders without question, Moria found him ominous due to his mysterious intentions. Moria interpreted Kuma's inquiry about where he would like to go on a trip as a challenge to battle.

Still from the anime.

Kuma revealed that he had come to inform Moria about Marshall D. Teach, also known as Blackbeard, being appointed as Crocodile's successor among the Seven Warlords. Moria noted the World Government's recognition of Blackbeard, whose former bounty was zero. Moria believed this decision would restore the balance in the world. However, Kuma disagreed and revealed that the World Government feared another Warlord being defeated by the Straw Hat Pirates, infuriating Moria. Moria grew even more enraged when Kuma offered to assist him in fighting the Straw Hats. Challenging Kuma, Moria demanded to know if he thought he would be defeated by a rookie crew. He urged Kuma to inform the World Government that the Straw Hats, who had outwitted them, were easily turned into loyal zombies.

Shortly after, Moria entered the cockpit inside Oars's stomach. He remarked on the refreshing night air and questioned the Straw Hats if they could afford to waste time with dawn approaching. Moria offered them a chance to fight him, explaining that they would be able to free all the shadows if they defeated him. He pointed out that they wouldn't be able to reach him unless they first defeated Oars. When Usopp attempted to enter the ship's kitchen for more salt, Moria had Oars attack him and block the entrance. However, Usopp was rescued by Brook, who had brought a large bag of salt.

Moria promised that he was not just a passenger and that he would show the Straw Hats their worst nightmares. As Oars cried out in pain from being burned, Moria reminded him that it was merely a lingering reaction from his human days and ordered him to put out the fire. When Franky attempted a direct attack on Moria, Oars moved them out of harm's way and smashed Franky into a nearby building. Moria gleefully commanded Oars to finish Franky off. When Nami arrived, Oars stretched his arm to attack her, leading Zoro to realize that Moria was involved as he noticed Moria's laughter.

Moria revealed that he used his ability, Kage Kakumei, to change the shape of Oars's shadow and, therefore, his body, allowing him to stretch like rubber. He demonstrated Oars's versatility by turning his body into a sphere for the Oars Ball attack. Although Oars asked Moria not to interfere in his fight, Moria apologized and explained that he only wanted to help. He ordered Oars to crush the Straw Hats one by one. However, Robin intervened and physically restrained Moria with her Ochenta Fleur: Cuatro Manos: Hold technique when he tried to make Oars stretch again.

Despite the pain caused by Robin's restraints, Moria brushed off her attempt to stop him. He summoned Doppelman from Oars's shadow and used Brick Bat, injuring Robin and knocking her down. Robin retaliated by trying to break Doppelman's neck with Cuatro Mano: Clutch, but Moria switched places with his clone, evading the attack. He then cut off Robin's shadow with his scissors, commenting that he had no zombie to transfer her shadow to and would hold onto her for the time being.

Sanji attacked Moria with Diable Jambe: Extra Hachis, but Moria switched places with Doppelman once more and returned to Oars's cockpit, apologizing for leaving to have a bit of fun. Oars unleashed a brutal assault on Sanji and Chopper with Gomu Gomu no Gatling, and Moria gleefully noted that only three targets remained.

When Usopp attempted to purify Oars by shooting a bag of salt into his mouth, Moria had Doppelman catch the bag and throw it back at Usopp. He taunted Usopp, expressing his readiness to counter the weaknesses of the Straw Hats' attacks. Moria encouraged Oars as he began stomping on Usopp and Nami, declaring his intention to dehumanize the Straw Hats completely. However, Nightmare Luffy suddenly appeared, rescuing Usopp and Nami. Moria ordered Oars to destroy Luffy, but Luffy stopped Oars's Gomu Gomu no Rifle and proceeded to pummel him, slamming him into the ground with Moria still inside.

As Luffy continued to overpower Oars, Moria considered leaving the cockpit again but was interrupted by Luffy, who struck him with Gomu Gomu no Pistol. Luffy unleashed a barrage of punches on Moria and Oars with Gomu Gomu no Storm, causing Oars to crash into the mansion and seemingly knock out Moria.

Emerging from the cockpit, Moria refused to back down from the fight when he saw the Rolling Pirates. He believed that Luffy and his crew were still not strong enough for the New World, claiming that Luffy would lose his entire crew just as Moria had. Moria activated Shadow's Asgard, extracting the shadows of one thousand zombies and absorbing them into his own body. He transformed into an enormous and misshapen form and split Thriller Bark in half with a single punch. The Straw Hats rose to confront Moria one last time.

Moria attacked Luffy multiple times, but Luffy's Gear Second allowed him to evade the blows. When Luffy hit Moria with Gomu Gomu no Jet Rocket and Gomu Gomu no Jet Bazooka, Moria lost control of the shadows and spit them out. He trapped Luffy with Black Box but Luffy broke free and claimed he wouldn't be crushed by the world because he was made of rubber.

Using Gear Third, Luffy hit Moria with Gomu Gomu no Jet Shell, causing him to spit up even more shadows. Moria tried to keep the shadows inside by covering his mouth but Luffy struck him again with Gomu Gomu no Jet Shell, forcing him back into the main mast, which collapsed on top of him.

Moria lost consciousness as the shadows left his body and told Luffy to experience the true terror of the New World. Hogback and Absalom later rescued the unconscious Moria and left Thriller Bark with him on a separate ship.

Amazon Lily Arc

When the World Government called upon the Seven Warlords of the Sea to assist in the battle against Whitebeard and his allies at Marineford, Moria joined the gathering alongside his fellow Warlords, except for Jinbe and Boa Hancock. He dined with them, preparing for the upcoming battle.

Marineford Arc

During the war, Moria was surprised to learn that Portgas D. Ace was the son of Gol D. Roger. Moria expressed interest in obtaining the corpse of Little Oars Jr., who was under Whitebeard's command. When Donquixote Doflamingo severed Little Oars Jr.'s leg, Moria decided to demonstrate how to finish him off properly by impaling the giant with Tsuno-Tokage.

When Luffy and other escapees from Impel Down suddenly fell onto the battlefield, Moria became enraged upon seeing Luffy. He wanted to use Luffy's shadow to reanimate Little Oars Jr., but Jinbe splashed saltwater on Moria's zombies, rendering them lifeless. Moria was shocked to discover that Luffy was the son of the Monkey D. Dragon, the leader of the Revolutionary Army.

In an attempt to empower himself, Moria absorbed several shadows and engaged Jinbe in combat. However, Jinbe defeated Moria with a single strike. Moria later provoked the 10th Division Captain Curiel of the Whitebeard Pirates into a fight, expressing enjoyment at the prospect of witnessing Whitebeard's demise.

During the chaos in the plaza, Moria fought against the Whitebeard Pirates and their allies. When Whitebeard was fatally wounded by the Blackbeard Pirates, Moria watched with a smile. Shanks arrived to stop the war, and Moria stood down along with the other Warlords and Marines.

Post-War Arc

After the war at Marineford, Moria was attacked by Doflamingo and a group of Pacifista in the backstreets. Doflamingo claimed that Moria was too weak to continue as a Warlord of the Sea and that he was to be eliminated, with the world believing him to have died in the war. Moria asked if the order came from Sengoku, but Doflamingo revealed that it came from higher up. However, Moria was rescued by Absalom and Hogback.

A newspaper article later claimed that Moria died in the war, but Mihawk doubted its validity since he remembered Moria being alive at the end of the battle. During a discussion with a member of the World Government, Doflamingo revealed that Moria disappeared before he could finish him off, speculating that Moria's Devil Fruit ability might be the cause. Despite doubts, Doflamingo stated that Moria was critically injured and would die.

During Timeskip

Contrary to Doflamingo's claims, several people reported seeing Moria alive and hiding in the New World.

Wano Country Arc

Moria and his zombie army rampaged on Blackbeard's island, Hachinosu, searching for Blackbeard and Absalom. Moria mistakenly thought he saw Absalom, but he was attacked from behind by an invisible Shiryu, who used Absalom's powers. Devon then revealed herself, claiming that Absalom was killed. Moria heard Blackbeard's voice inviting him to join his crew, but he refused and was imprisoned alongside other prisoners.

Gecko Moria’s Personality

Moria possesses a relaxed and lazy personality, often appearing to be carefree and unconcerned. He exudes a sense of invincibility, believing that he cannot be defeated. Like Doflamingo, he frequently wears a maniacal grin, only showing different expressions when faced with adversity or when his power is questioned. Moria's distinctive laughter is described as "Kishishishi."

He generally prefers to avoid direct combat, relying on his shadow and his subordinates to fight for him. Delegation is a common tendency for Moria, but it also serves as a weakness. He tends to neglect his own training and personal growth, resulting in a decline in his own strength. Despite claiming to rely on his own powers to achieve his goals, he often depends on others to carry out tasks for him, earning him the motto "relying upon others for one's own objective." This mindset extends to his fighting style, where he allows his shadow and the abilities of the Kage Kage no Mi to do the work.

Moria aspires to become the Pirate King, believing that powerful subordinates are essential for achieving this goal. However, his laziness and overconfidence lead him to underestimate his opponents, ultimately leading to his defeat at the hands of the Straw Hat Pirates. He possesses extensive experience and tactical acumen, having fought various adversaries, including an Emperor. Despite his knowledge of the New World's dangers, Moria's arrogance and complacency prevent him from realizing his full potential.

A defining moment in Moria's past was the tragic loss of his Gecko Pirates crew at the hands of Emperor Kaido. The traumatic experience deeply affected him, driving him to transform his crewmates into mindless zombies to avoid their suffering. Moria's belief that zombies are invulnerable and replaceable stems from the pain he endured losing his living comrades. He strives to create a zombie powerful enough to defeat Kaido, vowing to protect his subordinates from harm by turning them into eternal warriors.

Despite his twisted outlook on life, Moria has shown moments of genuine care and affection towards those close to him. He demonstrated a willingness to risk his life to rescue Absalom when he was captured by Blackbeard. Additionally, he played a paternal role in Perona's life, and she regarded him as a father figure. These instances suggest that Moria is capable of displaying affection and concern for others.

Gecko Moria’s Appearance

Moria possesses a distinct and imposing appearance, resembling an abnormally large humanoid creature with devil-like features. Standing at a towering height of 692 cm (22'8½"), he is the tallest among the Seven Warlords of the Sea.

His forehead is adorned with two horns, and vertical stitches run from the top of his face down his long and thick neck. Moria's ears and teeth are pointed, adding to his devilish appearance. While his lower body is relatively fat and stubby in comparison, his hair is vibrant red. His skin has a pale blue tone, matching his lips, armbands, and the edges of his gloves.

Moria typically dresses in a black coat and gloves, with bright orange pants featuring pale window-shaped patterns. He wears a fishnet shirt beneath a cravat and a blue crucifix-like ornament with claw-like appendages. During the meeting of the Warlords of the Sea and the subsequent war, Moria adds a fur-laced cape to his ensemble.

After the timeskip, Moria alters his attire, replacing the cravat and crucifix with a tie featuring the crucifix print. His coat takes on a jagged appearance, and he no longer wears a fishnet undershirt but opts for a regular shirt with chain-like ornaments. He still dons a fur-laced cape, albeit a shorter one.

In the past, during Gol D. Roger's execution and his confrontation with Kaido in Wano, Moria appeared slightly different. He was thinner, had a pointed chin, and slightly longer hair. The cross stitches on his face were absent below his lip, although they were present on his forehead.

In SBS Volume 63, In Oda’s depiction of the Seven Warlords as children, Moria had shorter horns and hair, and the cross stitches on his face were absent. He wore a baggy, long-sleeved white shirt with suspenders, dark knee-high pants, and his trademark long black gloves. Cowboy boots with spurs and a jewel-encrusted dagger completed his attire. As a child, Moria was thinner, had a distinct chin, and longer legs.

Gecko Moria’s Abilities

Moria, a former Warlord of the Sea and one of the most seasoned pirates in the Grand Line, possessed considerable strength and experience. In his prime, he was considered a rival to Kaido, one of the Four Emperors, though he ultimately lost his entire crew to him. During the Summit War of Marineford, Moria showcased his power by battling Curiel, the 10th division commander of the Whitebeard Pirates, without sustaining any notable injuries. He also defeated Little Oars Jr. with a single strike, despite the giant having been previously injured by others.

However, Moria's reliance on underlings and his own shadow during battles hindered his combat prowess. He often ran away from or disregarded opponents he deemed to be unworthy or futile to engage, as demonstrated when he dismissed Luffy's challenge on Thriller Bark after extracting his shadow. This heavy dependence on absorbing shadows from others weakened Moria, as noted by Jinbe.

Following the conclusion of the Summit War of Marineford, Doflamingo claimed that the government deemed Moria too weak to retain his title as a Warlord of the Sea and sought his elimination. Despite this, Moria managed to escape the clutches of Doflamingo and a group of Pacifistas, with assistance from Absalom.

Moria's potential was further recognized by Blackbeard, who asked him to join his crew, a testament to Moria's strength and capabilities. He demonstrated exceptional willpower by harnessing the abilities of Shadow's Asgard, enabling him to house and control a staggering 1000 shadows within his body. However, this exerted a considerable toll on him. Moria also displayed resistance to Luffy's Haoshoku Haki during the Summit War of Marineford, indicating his strong mental fortitude.

Physical Abilities

Moria possesses not only immense physical strength but also impressive speed. Despite his large size, he effortlessly lifted and squeezed a grown man with enough force to make him cough up blood. Additionally, Moria showcased his agility by outrunning Luffy, who is much smaller and more agile.

His endurance is noteworthy, as he quickly recovered from attacks that toppled Oars and withstood a powerful strike from Jinbe during their battle. Moria also displayed durability, as he sustained no damage when struck by Nami's Thunderbolt Tempo. Even after being crushed under the main tower of Thriller Bark, he recovered with only a minor head injury.

Weapons

In combat, Moria wields a giant pair of scissors that he uses in conjunction with his Kage Kage no Mi Devil Fruit. He can sever people's shadows using these scissors, which he carries with him at all times.

Gecko Moria in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

The scissor blades can be disconnected and used as inverted swords, allowing Moria to become a formidable dual-sword swordsman by implanting shadows of skilled swordsmen into himself.

During his battle against the Beasts Pirates, Moria was also seen wielding a sword, showcasing his versatility in combat.

Intelligence

Moria is a strategic thinker, demonstrating careful planning and foresight. He strategically places shadows into specific bodies and alters their capabilities to suit his purposes. He possesses knowledge of rare abilities such as Bartholomew Kuma's ability to instantly transport anyone or anything he likes, wherever he likes, which few others are aware of.

Devil Fruit

Moria possesses the Kage Kage no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants him control over shadows. With this ability, Moria can manifest and manipulate shadows as physical entities. He can summon his own shadow to fight on his behalf, utilizing its abilities and strength in battle. Additionally, Moria can divide his shadow into bat-like creatures that can swarm and attack his enemies.

One of Moria's primary abilities is shadow theft. By cutting off a person's shadow, he can steal it and render the victim in a comatose state for approximately two days. The stolen shadow becomes a part of Moria's arsenal and can be used to enhance his own power. Those who have had their shadows stolen become vulnerable to sunlight, as exposure to it will instantly turn them to ashes. Furthermore, they lose their reflection, and if they die, their shadow perishes as well. Once Moria releases stolen shadows, they automatically return to their original owners.

Gecko Moria in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Moria can insert stolen shadows into his own body, resulting in an increase in his size and strength. The more shadows he absorbs, the larger he becomes, though it also affects his coordination. He can also insert shadows into corpses, reanimating them as loyal zombies under his control. The physical strength of the zombie comes from the corpse itself, while the personality and fighting techniques are derived from the shadow's original owner.

Moreover, Moria has the ability to place shadows into the bodies of living individuals. This grants them increased physical prowess and allows them to utilize the fighting techniques associated with the shadow's original owner. However, due to the presence of a living soul within the body, the shadow will only remain within a living vessel for 10 minutes before returning to its owner.

Gecko Moria’s Relationships

Crews

Gecko Pirates

Moria had a deep connection and care for his former crew, the Gecko Pirates, who were renowned throughout the world. The devastating loss of his entire crew during the battle with the Beasts Pirates in Wano Country had a profound impact on Moria. It led him to harbor bitterness and drastically change his perspective on having a crew, opting for mindless zombies that would never result in irreplaceable losses. Despite his twisted ideals, Moria still mourns the loss of his crew and is heavily affected when thinking about them.

Thriller Bark Pirates

Colorized One Piece manga panel.

The loyalty of the Thriller Bark Pirates, both zombies and humans, towards Moria stemmed from various reasons. The zombies were bound to serve Moria due to his control over their existence granted by his Kage Kage no Mi powers. The human members of his crew had their own motivations aligning with Moria's goals, such as Perona's desire for her own servants, Doctor Hogback's fascination with reanimating corpses, and Absalom's aspiration to become the "Graveyard King."

Among the Mysterious Four, Absalom stood out as the most dutiful crewmate, actively working for Moria's best interests. Moria displayed genuine care for Absalom, as seen during the Wano Country Arc when he attempted to rescue him on Blackbeard's island. Moria's relief turned to anger upon learning that Absalom had been killed by the Blackbeard Pirates, manipulated by Catarina Devon's Devil Fruit abilities.

Hogback, who joined Moria to have his deceased love Victoria Cindry resurrected, saw Moria as his master and aided in creating the zombie army. His loyalty was evident in his commitment to Moria's cause. Similarly, Perona, who was adopted by Moria as a child, viewed him as a father figure. While her loyalty could be questioned at times, she displayed deep affection for Moria and mourned his supposed death. Upon learning of Moria's survival, Perona's joy was evident as she left Mihawk's castle to find him.

Buhichuck remained loyal to Moria and played a role in trapping some of the Straw Hat Pirates with General Zombies. Gyoro, Nin, and Bao, while fearful of Moria, remained loyal and informed him of the arrival of other members of the Mysterious Four.

Oars initially resisted Moria's control, asserting his individuality. However, as a zombie, he eventually became obedient to Moria's commands. Despite this, Oars preferred to fight his battles independently, allowing Moria to assist with his stretching techniques but rejecting interference or fights fought on his behalf.

Moria's indifference towards most of the zombies on Thriller Bark contrasted with the higher regard he held for his human crew members. The deaths of his human crew caused shock and despair for Moria, while his concern for the zombies was minimal, as seen when he insulted Absalom and shifted his attention to a different objective when he informed Moria that Brook had returned and was slaying zombies.

Enemies

Moria has accumulated countless enemies throughout his search for powerful underlings, as he scours the world for corpses and shadows to reanimate. This makes him an enemy of every victim whose shadow he extracts, sparking grudges and vengeful feelings towards him.

Lola, whose shadow was stolen by Moria, holds a strong grudge against him for robbing her and others of their shadows. She remains on Thriller Bark, fighting back by purifying zombies and retrieving stolen shadows. Despite being weakened, Lola even confronts Moria and threatens him.

Monkey D. Luffy

Gecko Moria in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Monkey D. Luffy is a significant enemy of Moria. They view each other as rivals due to their shared ambition of becoming the Pirate King. Moria acknowledges Luffy's strength and even uses Luffy's shadow to empower Oars in Thriller Bark. However, Luffy plays a pivotal role in defeating Moria and destroying his zombie army. At Thriller Bark, Moria warns Luffy about the dangers his crew faces with their current strength. Subsequently, the Straw Hat Pirates suffer a crushing defeat and are separated at the Sabaody Archipelago. Moria encounters Luffy again at Marineford, expressing anger at his presence and an interest in stealing his shadow. However, Jinbe intervenes to protect Luffy. Moria is also shocked to learn that Luffy is the son of the Revolutionary Dragon.

Kaido

Emperor Kaido is Moria's most prominent enemy. Kaido was responsible for the death of Moria's former crew during a clash with the Beasts Pirates in Wano Country. This tragic event deeply impacted Moria, and he harbors intense hatred towards Kaido. Motivated by revenge, Moria spent ten years creating his zombie army as a means to confront and defeat Kaido.

World Government and Marines

Gecko Moria in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Despite his alliance with the World Government as a Warlord of the Sea, Moria holds no genuine loyalty or concern for them. Throughout his time as a Warlord, Moria had no qualms about stealing the shadows of Marines, pirates, and even innocent civilians to bolster his army of zombies. He showed no regard for the authority or integrity of the government, acting solely in pursuit of his own ambitions.

Moria was infuriated when he learned that the government had sent Bartholomew Kuma to deal with him, fearing his potential defeat at the hands of the Straw Hat Pirates. To prevent any information about another Warlord's defeat from spreading, the World Government attempted to cover up Moria's defeat by ordering Kuma to eliminate all the survivors of Thriller Bark. However, Kuma chose to disregard this order, allowing Moria to escape and retain his status as a Warlord for a time.

During the Marineford War, Moria showed no concern for the outcome of the battle between the Whitebeard Pirates and the Marines. He only found amusement in the prospect of Whitebeard's death, displaying his indifference towards both sides of the conflict.

After the war, the World Government finally recognized Moria's weakness and decided to revoke his status as a Warlord. They used his defeat in the war as a pretext, claiming that Moria had died to preserve the Warlords' reputation of strength. However, Moria managed to escape their attempts to eliminate him.

Moria sees the Marines as no different from the pirates and civilians from whom he extracts shadows, showing no hesitation in forcibly taking the shadows of nearby Marines to empower himself. When Donquixote Doflamingo informed him about the orders for his eradication, Moria immediately suspected Sengoku of being responsible but was told to think higher up the ranks.

Jinbe

Gecko Moria in One Piece.

Moria's past encounters with Jinbe have been marked by hostility, as Jinbe knows the weaknesses of Moria's zombie soldiers. During the Marineford War, the two engaged in combat, with Moria intending to steal Jinbe's shadow. However, Jinbe landed a powerful hit on Moria before he could do so, berating him for his weakness resulting from his refusal to train.

Donquixote Doflamingo

Gecko Moria in One Piece.

Moria holds negative feelings toward Donquixote Doflamingo, who damaged Little Oars Jr. despite Moria's desire to keep the giant's corpse intact. After the war, Doflamingo attacked Moria, having received orders to kill him. Moria was left wounded on the ground, while Doflamingo mocked him, claiming that he was too weak to remain a Warlord of the Sea and that it would be better for him to appear to have died honorably in the war. Although Moria managed to escape, Doflamingo was unconcerned, believing that Moria would eventually succumb to his injuries.

Marshall D. Teach

While Moria and Blackbeard had no direct interaction during Blackbeard's time as a Warlord, Moria was amused to learn that Blackbeard had filled the vacant position left by Crocodile. After the timeskip, Moria displayed hostility towards Blackbeard by invading his personal island in an attempt to rescue Absalom. He openly challenged Blackbeard and attacked his underlings. Despite this, Blackbeard mockingly offered Moria the opportunity to join his crew, but Moria defiantly refused and was subsequently imprisoned.

Other

Bartholomew Kuma

Moria's interactions with Bartholomew Kuma have been brief but reveal a certain understanding between them. While Moria criticizes Kuma for his unwavering loyalty to the World Government and lack of personal agenda, Kuma remains patient around Moria. He even offers to assist Moria in fighting the Straw Hat Pirates, despite Moria's disrespect. However, Moria takes offense at Kuma's offer and attacks him, even though Kuma is unaffected by Moria's attempts at intimidation. Moria is aware of Kuma's abilities with the Nikyu Nikyu no Mi and his habit of asking others where they would like to go on vacation before sending them flying away.

Gecko Moria in Other Media
