Not a lot is known about Gin's past. He says that no one ever showed him any kindness before he met Sanji. He finally joined the Krieg Pirates, where he developed a passionate loyalty to their admiral, Don Krieg, and a terrible reputation as a deadly assassin. Don Krieg traveled with Gin on his journey to the Grand Line and they met with Dracule Mihawk. Gin was shocked to see how swiftly and easily Mihawk defeated Krieg's crew and Gin still has a sad memory of that incident since he lost his friends. Gin left the fleet while escaping the Grand Line while posing as Krieg in order to draw Fullbody away. Eventually, Fullbody's ship arrived at the Baratie and he was taken hostage there.
Gin defeated the seven guards after starving for three days on board Marine's ship. The prison ship arrived at Baratie, where Gin asked for food but was attacked and driven out by Patty for not having any money. Gin then got a free plate of food from Sanji. Due to the traumatic incident, he also told Monkey D. Luffy not to travel to the Grand Line. Gin eventually made it back to the Dreadnaught Sabre, where the Krieg Pirate survivors were still waiting for their combat leader. Gin took them to Baratie so they could recharge. After regaining his strength, Krieg attacked Sanji and told the ship's cooks to prepare meals for the 100 crew members. He then declared his desire to use Baratie as his new flagship. Zeff gave Krieg the food since the head chef was aware of how it felt to be starving at sea.
Krieg started his attack on Baratie when Mihawk appeared in an attempt to eliminate the remaining members of Krieg's crew but fled after a battle with Roronoa Zoro. He made an attempt to offer Sanji a request: Zeff's freedom in return for Baratie. However, Gin could not bring himself to murder Luffy even when he threatened to ruin the highly desired Baratie. Gin reached his breaking point and killed Pearl with one blow. Krieg got angry by this, but Gin argued that he alone had the power to murder Sanji. Krieg at this point informed the other cooks that Gin was the crew's Combat Commander and was highly respected. The two warriors then got into a fight after he gave Gin the order to murder Sanji. Gin eventually had the upper hand since Sanji had worn himself out from his battle with Pearl and even managed to pin the chef, but he was unable to murder him because Sanji was the only person who had ever shown Gin any sort of kindness.
Gin asked Krieg to save Baratie and its cooks and strongly refused to kill Sanji. Due to this, Krieg was extremely disappointed with Gin and removed him from his crew. Krieg gave him the order to throw his gas mask into the water and detonated the "Deadly Poison Gas Bomb MH5", sending a lethal wave of poison toward everyone who was exposed. Gin was severely poisoned as a result. Gin was warned by Luffy not to follow Krieg. Zeff told the other cooks that the antidote should be in the gas masks when Sanji asked for antidotes from the other chefs. Gin was in tears when Patty and Carne informed her that Krieg had been defeated by Luffy. He then used a small boat that Baratie had given him to carry Krieg and the crew. Gin said goodbye to Sanji and revealed his desire to get away from Krieg's power, but added that Krieg had taught him that success must be achieved by all means necessary. Gin also expressed his hope to run into Luffy on the Grand Line once again.
Gin is known for his utmost devotion to Don Krieg, who can tell him to do anything, no matter how cruel or inhumane, without hesitating. Gin has a sense of respect that can be seen by his decision not to murder Sanji, the first person to show him kindness.
Gin is an average-sized, slightly lanky man with short, messy hair, dark rings around his eyes, and a light beard. He is seen wearing a gray undershirt, gray pants, a gray headband with blue stripes, and two circular earrings on each ear and he wore a huge dark cloak over it.
Gin is a capable fighter who can compete with even the most experienced martial artist like Sanji. Due to his starvation and weakness, the Baratie chefs initially thought he was only a lower-ranking subordinate; but, when he eventually showed his actual skill in combat, many were caught by surprise.
Gin uses a unique pair of tonfa that are filled down with metal spheres for his main fight technique, known as Man-Demon Tactics. When paired with Gin's natural strength and agility, these may be used as direct hits or spun in place like whips to add speed and force. With one another, they make for extremely deadly weapons that can destroy Pearl's iron shields in a single hit.
Gin has been seen using a single-barreled handgun and a double-barreled shotgun.
Gin has the utmost respect for Gin and is very loyal to him. He does want to leave his position, though. He had already decided to risk his life to save Krieg, put aside his gas mask, and submit to Krieg's request to poison him. Gin makes the decision to leave Krieg behind when he is defeated. The Krieg Pirates appreciate Gin for his cruelty and leadership among the gang. When Krieg poisoned him, everyone was shocked. Pearl acknowledges Gin as superior even if he is arrogant about his own power.
The first person to ever be kind to Gin was Sanji, who provided the starving and poor pirates with free food. Later on, Gin was given the order to murder Sanji; he was unable to do so.
Gin told Luffy not to enter the Grand Line when he first met him. Luffy is angry about the shady tactic Gin used when he kidnapped Zeff, to which Gin replied saying that is how the world operates. After Gin showed his good nature, Luffy advised Gin to stop following Krieg. Gin expressed his appreciation for Luffy after he fought Krieg and said he would want to see him again in the Grand Line.
