Hina trained with Smoker as a Marine cadet in her teens. Although she was a shining example of deference and professionalism, she maintained a friendship with the rebellious, unruly Smoker and frequently assisted in shielding him from superiors. Both eventually attained the position of Captain.
By pure chance, Hina went by "Ironfist" Fullbody's unit not long after Fullbody had given up his Lieutenant rank to aid in Jango's exoneration from the Black Cat Pirates. The two men had intended to split up for good, but after catching sight of Hina, they fell in love and instead applied to join her crew as lowest-class sailors. Hina agreed, still having a soft place for unusual employees.
After the Straw Hat Pirates had vanquished Crocodile and Baroque Works, Hina landed in Arabasta. Smoker and she discovered the ship with the Dance Powder. Smoker said that he knew the difference between right and wrong and that he would not do something that is forbidden by the nation when she asked him if he used the dancing powder to make it rain. Smoker then requested her to transport the ship and the captured Baroque Works members to his ship.
Later, when the Straw Hat Pirates were leaving the island, Hina made an effort to catch them. When Mr. 2's Mane Mane no Mi abilities fooled her, she bucked her signature battleship configuration. In order to prevent the Going Merry from being caught, the agents of the Baroque Works assaulted the Marines. She contacted Smoker to lament losing Luffy while she restrained the final Baroque Works agent.
Hina came upon Miss Goldenweek, Mr. 5, and Miss Valentine while on vacation on Kyuka Island. They were assaulted, but all she got was Miss Valentine. Mr. 2 used his Mane Mane no Mi abilities to impersonate Mr. 3 and fool her once more. Because of Miss Valentine's escape from her imprisonment and the theft of her ship by many BW agents, she was ultimately able to apprehend Mr. 2 and Mr. 3.
When Portgas D. Ace's execution was revealed, Hina responded to the Marines being called in to support Marineford.
Hina listened to Sengoku's speech on Ace's past three hours before he was put to death. Later, she tried to trap Luffy, but he activated Gear 2 and dove out of her grasp, leaving her to fight her own teammates. She conceded defeat to herself in silence. She was standing close to other Marines as the conflict came to an end.
Hina and her men led the Nefertari Family to Mary Geoise as they left Arabasta for the Levely.
Later, in Red Port, Hina was there as the Marines eavesdropped on a conversation between Big Mom and Kaidou. Before Roger's time, Rocks, a formidable pirate organization, existed, according to Garp and Hina.
Sengoku asked Hina in New Marineford whether she knew where Garp was. He was informed by Hina that Garp and SWORD members collaborated to rescue Koby in Hachinosu. Tsuru and Sengoku both responded in disbelief. Hina and the other Marines in New Marineford experienced a worldwide earthquake six days after the devastation of the Lulusia Kingdom.
Hina often uses the third person to describe herself. In Japan, it is common for young children to use their own names as first-person pronouns while addressing themselves. This is considered adorable. She does not attempt to be cute outside of this tendency, though, and typically comes out as being rather austere. She has proven to be a considerate and sensible individual by graciously accepting her defeat after attempting to kidnap Luffy. As seen by her mention of the fabled Rocks Pirates, whose existence is only more well recognized among older marines like Garp and Sengoku than other marines of her generation, Hina appears to be highly knowledgeable about historical events.
Hina is a tall, slender woman with dark brown eyes, and straight pink hair that is parted in the middle, and waist-length. She occasionally sports dark crimson lipstick and is seen puffing on a cigarette. She is seen wearing a two-piece burgundy-purple suit over a white top, dark brown shoes, and a pair of dark gloves. Her second outfit consists of a deep-necked purple blouse with golden embellishments on the front, long matching trousers, and high-heeled shoes. Additionally, she is wearing a bead necklace around her neck and a pair of purple sunglasses that are either on her forehead or hide her eyes.
Hina typically wears a long white Marine jacket that is slung over her shoulders like a cape to go with her costume, as do the majority of Marines. The main distinction is that she keeps the light blue epaulets that were her distinctive color, whereas Marine officers typically wear red and blue. She had the same hairstyle as a kid, albeit with shorter hair. She wore sneakers and a simple, striped dress. Regarding her Devil Fruit, she was shown to have numerous caged pet birds.
Hina has proved to be rather astute; by examining their wanted posters, she was able to decipher Miss Goldenweek's, Mr. 5's, and Miss Valentine's disguises. She is a great unarmed fighter and on two different occasions, she was able to defeat Mr. 2 Bon Kurei, a very strong hand-to-hand fighter, using her Devil Fruit.
Hina ate the Ori Ori no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants her the ability to create iron bars and tie her adversaries with iron. She was given the nickname "Hina the Black Cage" due to her ability. She is able to lock up somebody by swiping one of her arms through them. As the victim goes through the limb, it transforms into an iron restraint, trapping them within. She employs a bodily component that regenerates right away. She can also project lengthy iron prison bars from her torso to hit her adversaries. Anyone who connects with these bars, whether a friend or an enemy, will be wrapped around and trapped. This enables Hina to link several individuals.
Hina has access to the Black Cage Corps even though she hasn't been seen using any weapons.
Vice Admiral Smoker has known Hina for a very long time; the two of them both joined the Marines at the same time. She has assisted him in avoiding circumstances when he may have lost his job. Smoker acknowledges Hina by her name alone, while Hina calls him Smoker-kun because they have known each other for a long time.
Hina is frequently followed by Fullbody and Jango. She does not acknowledge their praise, but she also appears to be tolerant of them when they act foolishly, as they frequently do when dancing. She recognized their power and accepted them as her servants.
