The Hobi Hobi no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants its user the ability to turn living people or animals into toys, and vanquish memories of their existence from others. It was devoured by Sugar. The fruit also gives the user an eternal youth. The fruit’s abilities were demonstrated during the Dressrosa Arc.

Donquixote Doflamingo handed over Devil Fruits to Sugar and her sister Monet when they joined the Donquixote Pirates. The Hobi Hobi no Mi was given to Sugar, who ate the fruit at the age of ten, which stopped her aging process and allowed her to maintain her youthful appearance for the next 12 years.
The fruit’s appearance hasn’t been revealed.
The greatest advantage of this fruit’s power is that it allows the user to turn other people or animals into toys just by touching them. When a person is transformed into a toy, the user can enter into a contract with the victims, forcing them to obey every order provided at that time, against their will.
Victims appear to lose physical power while becoming toys, being confined to the capacities of whatever body they now have, and whatever weapons they may have on them will also vanish. They can also shrink to become smaller than their initial size, as giants have been downsized to be smaller than the typical human. It appears that Devil Fruit powers are also made ineffective, as Nico Robin was rendered impotent by her new form.
Toys are also considered inorganic, as they are susceptible to the Pamu Pamu no Mi, as well as suffering from degradation induced by continuous tension on their bodies, which leads to easier breakdown. If the victims were skilled fighters before becoming toys, their combat skills are still kept. The user can take advantage of this by commanding toy warriors to protect them in their genuine form.
The user can even choose the type of toy the victim will become, as when Sugar chose to turn all of the dwarfs that attacked her into little, black teddy bears. In order to develop formidable soldiers, the user can also change their victims into parts of larger toys.
A frightening feature of the fruit’s power is that once a person becomes a toy, all recollection of that person’s existence is gone. No matter how prominent or close the victim was to others, the victim will be entirely forgotten by everyone.
Toys can remember their own identities, but they cannot recall anyone else who has been converted into a toy. The memory erasure effect is rapid, as even bystanders who see the transformation forget the victim’s existence, believing the toys appeared out of nowhere. This makes them much easier to enslave because no one will remember them and hence attempt to rescue them.
Another feature of this fruit is that it stops the aging process of the user after consumption, thereby granting eternal youth. This effect also extends to people who have been transformed into toys, as they do not age beginning the point of transformation; Kyros remained the same age and state he was in when he was originally transformed, despite the passage of ten years.
Killing or knocking out the user unconscious, whether through pain or shock, will immediately cancel out any transformation and memory modifications effects. The backfiring effect can be significant depending on the quantity of victims as well as their strength, because the situation of being a toy and forgotten by others can inspire feelings of hatred and revenge on them.
As a result, Sugar was constantly guarded by the Elite Officer, Trevor, and the goal of Operation SOP was to exploit this in order to make the uprising against the Donquixote Pirates easier to launch. Despite the potency of memory erasure, it has no effect on physical evidence of those who are transformed, such as an etched name, or an engraved statue, and extremely sensitive persons can detect that something is wrong even if they cannot identify what it is.
When Ricky demonstrated Kyro’s fighting style during Block B, Mukkashimi remembered it, but not the fighter himself, and Riku felt that there was a gap in his memories, having met and conserved with several Corrida Colosseum gladiators before they were eventually transformed and thus erased from his mind.
While the user has control over what kind of toy the victim becomes, it appears that there is a size restriction for each toy. When changed into toys, large beings such as Chinjao and even the colossal Hajrudin shrank dramatically. If the user wants to make considerably larger toys than usual, they must convert different persons into parts for them.
Due to the fact that the contract must be personally written immediately upon the transformation, the toy can retain their own free will if they manage to flee Sugar before it is issued. Furthermore, although being obligated by the contract, the toys can get around it by using loopholes that allow them to operate against certain situations. Esta, for example, was harassed by a toy who managed to get around his contract, which allowed him to display his human side, and Milo might still expose his true nature to others if he was specifically asked about it.
To counter any of those, any toy that exploited a loophole would be labeled “defective” and dumped into an underground scrap bin. If a toy was a good fighter in its natural form and was not bound to a contract, they might be rather troublesome to the user.
Furthermore, the opponent will not transform unless the user touches them with their hand and only their hand. Additionally, the user must deliberately cause the people they go in to transform.
Another possible issue is that because the aging process stops when the fruit is consumed, the user’s age at the time of consumption may be considered for the rest of their lives. Sugar, the present user, is frequently underestimated because of her tiny build, although being an adult in terms of mental age. Aside from all of this, the user is vulnerable to standard Devil Fruit flaws.
Sugar used her abilities to turn citizens of Dressrosa and Corrida Colosseum losers into toys, with Trevor acting as her bodyguard and supporting her in general. This was an important aspect of Donquixote Doflamingo’s Underworld trade business because it only allowed him to remove inconvenient people from existence, but also provided his crew with a steady flow of slaves to work them. Sugar was given the job of special officer among the team as a central character in those missions, with her safety being the utmost priority.
The toys, for their part, have all memory of their existence lost by everyone who knew them, even each other. As a result, its victims refer to the power as the Hobi Hobi Curse. Sugar also obtained eternal youth, having not aged for twelve years since the age of 10.
This enabled her to pass herself off as a harmless little girl, which allowed her to approach and almost fool Monkey D. Luffy and Trafalgar D. Water Law into becoming toys if Usopp hadn't interfered.
Sugar has demonstrated the following techniques using her Devil Fruit powers:
After transforming a target into a toy, Sugar imposes certain rules on the toy, such as “you will not hurt humans” or “you will obey all orders given to you.” It has been implied that each toy can only have one contract, and that additional contracts are impossible to make. Also, the contract must be made shortly after a victim is changed, which provides the user with only a little window of opportunity to compel them, or the victim retains their free will while trapped as a toy.
Sugar can move her hands with great speed to touch multiple targets at once, which transforms them into black teddy bears.
Sugar turns her victims into massive nutcracker dolls. Each one is made up of eight people: one for the head, and one for each leg. They also have tremendous biting power due to their massive jaws.
A. The Hobi Hobi no Mi grants its user the ability to turn any living people or animals they touch into toys. The user can bind the transformed toys with a contract to serve them.
A. Usopp defeated Sugar, twice, saving hundreds of people and his Captain the same day.
A. Sugar stopped aging since she consumed the Hobi Hobi no Mi Devil Fruit. The fruit gives the user eternal youth, however, the user matures mentally with their age.
