History

Past

Jango was a nomadic dancer before becoming a pirate but sadly, he was never very wealthy. A fungus sprouted on Jango's chin while he slept. He just consumed the cap since he thought the flavor was repulsive, leaving the trunk in place. His strong hypnotism seems to have come from eating the cap.

Prior to his captain Kuro's retirement and Jango's assumption of command, Jango was the first mate of the Black Cat Pirates. Kuro had grown weary of continuously evading punishment. In addition, Jango hypnotized Morgan, the lone survivor of the Marines whose platoon was massacred by the commander of the Black Cat Pirates, into thinking that he was Kuro.

Nugire Yainu is the shipwright of the crew and he shares enough characteristics with Kuro to be to be known as Kuro. After that, Jango assumed the role of captain and was taught by Kuro how to live without him.

However, three years later, Jango was told to return to Syrup Village with the crew as a ruse to help Kuro obtain an estate from a wealthy girl. Kuro didn't tell the crew that he planned to kill them all as well in order to keep his actual identity a secret.

Syrup Village Arc

When Jango initially emerged, he was seen in Syrup Village, Usopp's village, wandering oddly backward. He later got together with Kuro, his old commander, to assist him in carrying out his three-year scheme to murder Kaya and take her fortune. When Usopp and Luffy discover the scheme, Jango puts Luffy to sleep and, following Kuro's orders, lets Usopp flee since, as the village liar, no one would take him seriously.

Kuro gave Jango the instruction to murder Kaya after she had written her will and hypnotize her into writing it such that Kuro would be the sole heir. To allay Kuro's suspicions, Jango was assigned command of the Black Cat Pirates, whose mission was to raid the settlement and murder Kaya. Kuro, unwilling to wait any longer, made his way to the coast to resolve the situation on his own. However, the Black Cat Pirates were delayed by the involvement of the Straw Hat Pirates.

When Kaya tried to persuade Kuro to go but was unsuccessful, Usopp gave the order for the Usopp Pirates to bring her into the jungle. Before Kaya promised to take her own life if they were hurt anymore, Jango chased them and intended to murder them. Jango agreed to their leaving. Before Jango could kill Kaya, Zoro chopped off a tiny limb from a tree so Usopp could shoot him with a Kayaku Boshi and knock him unconscious. Kaya signed the will. Luffy threw Kuro to his escaping crew, leaving Jango where he had fallen.

Alabasta Arc

When Jango awoke, the Usopp Pirates pursued him from the island since it was too late for him to board the ship. He traveled to a nearby island, where he disguised himself to compete in and win a dancing competition. He realized that Fullbody was a Marine as they celebrated his triumph together, despite the fact that Fullbody did not recognize him.

Jango first left the town to escape the threat the pirates posed and joined Fullbody in fighting the pirates.

Jango’s Dance Paradise

When Jango awoke, the Usopp Pirates pursued him from the island since it was too late for him to board the ship. He traveled to a nearby island, where he disguised himself to compete in and win a dancing competition. He realized that Fullbody is a Marine as they celebrated his triumph together, despite the fact that Fullbody did not recognize him.

Jango first ran away to escape the threat posed by the pirates and to keep Fullbody from capturing him when the pirates raided the town and Fullbody engaged in combat with them. In an attempt to stop Fullbody from retaliating, the pirates kidnapped a lady; however, Jango freed her and the two of them destroyed the pirates with Fullbody.

After his true identity was discovered, Jango turned himself in and was given a death sentence as a pirate; however, Fullbody's "friendship dance" resulted in an acquittal. Next, Jango attempts to hypnotize Fullbody into forgetting their friendship, but he is prevented from doing so by Hina's appearance. Awestruck by her, he and Fullbody later enlisted in her Marine squad.

Alabasta Arc

Marineford Arc

Jango and Fullbody watch as Whitebeard uses his Devil Fruit abilities to create a tsunami. Three hours before to Ace's execution, he was spotted with Fullbody, witnessing the two tsunamis that Whitebeard had caused, and behind Hina, listening to Sengoku's speech on Ace's background. Jango observed that Luffy's crew was missing when he and the other Impel Down escapees arrived in Marineford. With Luffy's Haoshoku Haki released, Jango passed out.

Zou Arc

Jango had worked his way up to the rank of lieutenant commander at this point. Jango went with Hina as they led the Nefertari Family to Mary Geoise as they left Arabasta for the next Levely.

Levely Arc

When Big Mom and Kaidou's conversation was hacked by the Marines, Jango and Fullbody were at the Red Port.

One Piece: Stampede

Jango battles the pirates on Delta Island with Fullbody.

Egghead Arc

Brannew took Jango and Fullbody to the ship graveyard at G-1, where he showed them two battleships that Vice Admiral Garp and Kuzan had used as sandbags back when Garp was Kuzan's mentor. The fact that Garp had been training with this technique for decades startled Jango as well.

Personality

Jango is a skilled hypnotist who occasionally makes mistakes. For the most part, he is easygoing and is well aware of Kuro's propensity to snap at even his own crew members, making Jango uncomfortable in his presence. Even though Jango knew his Captain might murder him at any time, he remained devoted to Kuro and carried out all of his schemes.

Jango appears to like dancing, as seen by the frequent incorporation of dance steps into his regimen, such as moonwalking in place of conventional walking. He foolishly attended a neighborhood dancing competition at Mirrorball Island while wearing a disguise, completely oblivious to the fact that he needed to keep the Marines at bay.

He demonstrated his competitiveness and commitment as a dancer by ultimately winning the competition, winning Fullbody's admiration in the process.

Appearance

Jango is a slender man with sandy blonde hair who seems to like being eccentric. He dresses flamboyantly, the most prominent of which is his red heart-shaped spectacles, which cover up his heart-shaped eyes and eyebrows. He was known to like a plain blue bandanna and sleeveless t-shirt as Kuro's first partner.

His favorite outfit after being 'promoted' to captain was an olive-green pair of pants with matching gloves, black shoes with long white socks, and a blue wide-brimmed hat. When going undercover, he wore these with a plain blue jacket; but when he was in his "official" role as captain, he donned a bigger, more commanding overcoat decorated with rings.

Jango started donning even gaudier attire after enlisting in the Marines, including a t-shirt with a giraffe print in bright purple and yellow and a regular Marine Seaman hat.

Jango’s abilities, strengths, and fighting style

Jango is quite athletic, with considerable battle and leadership experience, and he was a notable member and acting captain of the Black Cat Pirates for a number of years. He has been observed employing lengthy, dramatic kicks in melee fighting that resemble dance steps. But Jango isn't all that powerful, even with this big bounty; in fact, Usopp only needed to use one Gunpowder Star to destroy him.

It's unknown what progress he has made in his fighting skills overall since joining the Marines, but by the time the timeskip ended, he had already risen through the ranks of the navy, rising from the rank of Seaman Recruit to Lieutenant Commander in just two years.

Jango’s special abilities

Hypnotism

After eating a fungus that had grown on his chin, Jango gained the capacity to hypnotize and manipulate others as long as he commands them to follow his instructions, watch his pendulum swing, and listen to the phrase he employs to induce hypnosis: Jango, first two. When he is successful, he may swiftly and easily render adversaries unconscious by hypnotizing them to sleep. He can also help allies by giving them orders to summon subconscious power, which not only boosts their morale but also makes them physically stronger.

His hypnosis, however, is essentially ineffective against anyone who is aware of its risks, since Kaya was able to defend herself by just closing her eyes. On the other hand, when giving orders, Jango himself frequently forgets to close his eyes, which leads to recurrent and awkward instances of self-hypnosis. Anyhow, the actual extent of his hypnosis is unclear because the majority of his effective orders were short and carried out on either simple-minded or eager individuals.

But based on their first interaction, he seemed capable of accomplishing something as difficult as completely removing someone's memories from another person's mind.

Weapons

Jango hypnotizes himself with a pendulum that is actually a chakram on a string. Jango can hold it in one hand, spin it on his finger, or launch it as a missile. It is composed of strong metal and has an edge sharp enough to chop through tree trunks in a single swipe. In addition, he makes sure to have many backups on hand in case the first one breaks.

Relationships

Crews

Even though Jango seemed to be aware of his old pirate commander Kuro's darker side, Jango was initially devoted to him as he was prepared to assume command of the crew and return three years later to initiate the plot. The rest of the crew appears to respect him sufficiently to carry out his instructions, and Jango doesn't appear to be unkind to them. Jango and the Black Cat Pirates are now adversaries because he is a Marine.

Marines

As a result of their joint participation in the dancing competition and their cooperation in putting a stop to the pirate invasion, Jango and Fullbody are now close friends. Moreover, Fullbody prevented Jango from receiving the death penalty. Although Jango is passionately drawn to Hina, his commanding officer, she rejects him.

Enemies

Because Jango jeopardized Kaya's life as a pirate and because it is his responsibility as a Marine to combat and apprehend pirates, Jango is the adversary of the Straw Hat Pirates. Specifically, Usopp holds revenge against him.
