Karakuri Island in One Piece

Vegapunk was a citizen of this island. This is the place where he created his laboratory. This laboratory was the house of many experiments out of which most weren't finished. He treasured his lab and everything that was inside of it, it was more valuable than money. Vegapunk modified animals into cyborgs in his lab and then used them as labor and forced them to build an in-ground heating system for the people of the Island. This heating system is visible from the island as two giant bolts are lodged into the mountain.

Later on, Franky was sent to this island by Bartholomew Kuma during the Sabaody Archipelago Arc. At that time, there were only two citizens here known as Kitto and Taroimo. When Franky broke into Vegapunk's lab, he found the lab's self-destruct button and thought that it was a pirate symbol and pressed it. The lab's unfinished heating system then exploded in a giant mushroom cloud. This incident was known as the 'Nightmare of Baldimore'. This explosion also destroyed the skinny mountains which had two bolts sticking out from it.

After Franky escaped from the explosion, his face was slightly burnt and he went to another section of the lab which was revealed after the explosion, and saw that it had many weapon-based inventions. He decided to live there and started to train to become stronger under Luffy's orders. Franky then tried to cover his disfigured face with a tiger rug but it caught on fire when the embers from the nearby furnace landed on it. When he ran out screaming, the people thought that he was a burning beast and were very intrigued.

Kitton

Kitton is a little boy who lives on Karakuri Island. He lives with his grandfather who takes care of him. He also has a cyborg dog named Taroimo.

Dr. Vegapunk

Dr. Vegapunk is the leading scientist of the SSG. His works include discovering the secrets and uses of seastone, how the devil fruit works, and various other scientific achievements. He currently lives in Egghead, where his lab is.

Franky

Franky’s real name is Cutty Flam, but he likes to go by Franky. He was abandoned by his own family, so he became a member of Tom's workers. Once, while working, he was severely injured, which required him to augment some parts of his body, and eventually he became a cyborg. He takes pride in whatever he makes and does quality work.

The other people who lived on the island are Kitton's grandfather, Taroimo, Tsukimi, Spacey, Cosmo, Galaxy and Macro.
