History

Past

The Oykot Kingdom is the place where Nojiko was born. When she was two years old, a bloody fight between pirates and Marines destroyed practically everyone in her immediate vicinity. Nojiko discovered an orphaned baby girl who was still alive when the war ceased, and she then started to travel until she met Bell-mère. To the relief of both Nojiko and Bell-mère, the infant giggled, appearing unconcerned at the slaughter that had taken place.

Soon after, Bell-mère embarked on a ship bound for Cocoyasi Village, her homeland, with the two kids, and returned during a storm. Bell-mère gave the two girls over to the local doctor, Nako, on the condition that they be treated before her wounds. Bell-mère abruptly stated that she would adopt the two daughters when all three of them had recovered, much to the amazement of the locals. The three would become close enough to resemble a real family. Bell-mère was poor, so they struggled to make ends meet.

Because Nojiko was the older of the two sisters, she got everything first and Nami would get her hand-me-downs. Nojiko was assigned to get Nami after reprimanding her for disparaging them as a family, which made Nami flee. Bell-mère attempted to repel the fish-man that day, but he easily defeated her. Later that day, Arlong attacked the island and discovered her house. Bell-mère had enough money to either rescue herself or her two daughters if she had paid the required sum to stay alive.

Arlong wasn't aware of the presence of the two children, so everything would have been OK, but Bell-mère delivered it to the kids since she would have rather died than not be able to call herself a mother. In order to do this, Arlong shot her directly in front of her two adopted daughters; not before Bell-mère had apologized to Nami for not being wealthier and being unable to provide the kids anything they desired.

Arlong Park Arc

Chabo is prevented from attacking Usopp by Nojiko because the youngster thought Usopp was a fish-man. Usopp was about to fight when Nojiko knocked him out and brought in the actual fish man. She revealed Nami's history and her loyalty to the Arlong Pirates when Nami awoke. Usopp found it difficult to accept that the lady he had trusted had deceived them. A gang of fishmen showed up there and declared that Genzo would be punished for having a weapon as Usopp got ready to take off. Usopp was informed by Nojiko that they had regular tribute payments to make to Arlong. He promised to spare their communities in exchange. Usopp was spurred into action as Genzo was about to be killed and diverted the fishmen from pursuing him.

Nami unexpectedly returned to the community at the same time. While Nojiko escorted her back to her house, everyone turned a blind eye to her and gave her the cold shoulder. The Straw Hat Pirates later discovered that Nami was not who they had believed her to be, which devastated them. In exchange for the Straw Hats leaving the island, Nojiko appeared and told the Straw Hats about Nami's background. Nojiko was shot in the back by Nami when she attempted to stop her from fighting Captain Nezumi, a Marine officer who wanted to confiscate the money Nami earned for her agreement with Arlong. She did, however, live.

She made the decision to rebel against Arlong together with the other residents of Cocoyasi Village. They discovered that Johnny and Yosaku had barricaded the entrance when they arrived. They encouraged the villagers to hold off on engaging in combat until the Straw Hat Pirates could do so. The Straw Hats showed up and immediately started fighting Arlong and his men. Due to his Devil Fruit abilities, Luffy was tossed into the ocean but was unable to move since he was in a precarious position. The only thing Nojiko and Genzo could think of to aid the warriors was to jump into the water and save the Straw Hat.

They took turns trying to extricate Luffy from the pinning rock, using his Devil Fruit abilities to extend his head out of the water. After receiving CPR from Nojiko, Luffy came to after losing consciousness and spewed water into the air, giving the Straw Hats, who were outmatched by Arlong, a sign of hope. Zoro and Sanji determined that in order to destroy Arlong, they must first release Luffy. Sanji and Nojiko went into the water to remove the rock. Hatchan, however, showed up and made an assault attempt on Sanji. Hatchan's fists were mostly deflected by Nojiko.

The tension caused Hatchan's Zoro-caused wounds to open, which prevented him from continuing his attack. After Sanji eventually removed the rock, Luffy was let free. She watched Luffy fight Arlong and demolish his building alongside the others. Nezumi's arrival to ruin the party nearly ended their happiness. He commanded that the Marines now owned the wealth of Arlong Park. Zoro intervened, and Nami assisted in driving Nezumi from the area so the locals could retain the money. To say goodbye to the Straw Hats, the community gathered at the docks. Nami, however, was initially nowhere to be discovered since she had slyly left the cash at Nojiko's home.

She didn't stop to say goodbye to Nojiko immediately before making the announcement for the ship to depart. Nojiko and the community waved goodbye as the pirates made their way to the Grand Line.

Water 7 Arc

While bringing mikans to Genzo, Nojiko overheard locals discussing Nami's first reward. Genzo attempted to decline the present, but Nojiko insisted because she and Nami considered him a member of the family. She was then perplexed by Genzo's paradoxical actions, which included complaining about the image that was used for Nami's poster while also hanging up an enlarged version of the image. Nojiko emphasized that it was evidence that the Straw Hats were keeping their word.

From the Decks of the World

Nojiko, Genzo, Chabo, and Nako gathered next to Bell-mère's grave following the Straw Hats' reunion. Nojiko and Chabo appeared to have launched their own company because they were both wearing aprons that had Nami's tattoo and mikans.

From the Decks of the World: 500,000,000 Man Arc

Nojiko and Genzo were presented with Nami's updated wanted poster following the events at Dressrosa. Nojiko was amused as she observed Genzo criticizing the new photo.

Personality

Nojiko in One Piece
Still from the anime

Nami's mature elder sister is Nojiko. She is very kind to Genzo, whom she and Nami had looked up to as a father figure, and is very supportive of Nami. She didn't appear to get into problems as her sister did, despite her apparent tendency for upsetting boys. With age, she also assumed some responsibility for the well-being of other island residents. Throughout the years of Arlong's leadership, she made an effort to stop others from rebelling against him while Nami made every effort to uphold their agreement. She hates those who would foolishly waste their life. She also thinks that whether you are an adult or a child, it doesn't matter whether you strive hard enough to end your life if you no longer have the will to live.

Appearance

Nojiko in One Piece
Still from the anime

Nojiko is a slim young lady with a tanned look, bright blue eyes, and hair. She has several tattoos on her right arm and chest as a sign of compassion and condolence for Nami, who was embarrassed by her tattoo of Arlong's Jolly Roger. She also wore a bracelet that she gave to Nami in the manga. She frequently wears a beige sleeveless top, blue slacks, and purple shoes. She also looks to be wearing pink lip gloss. She wears lipstick, has longer hair, and appears to have lost weight during the time skip.

Relationships

Family

Nojiko never had any issues with being adopted and always had a good relationship with Bell-mère. She joked with Bell-mère about how Nami had been unconscious of the killing that was taking place around them since unlike Nami, she was aware of the position she was discovered in. She frequently encouraged Nami's traits as a child, including stealing, much to Bell-mère's displeasure. Although she was quite unhappy at Nami's first enlistment with Arlong's group, she also knew enough about her sister to understand that she would not do so arbitrarily. Nojiko got a tattoo because she wanted something similar to Nami's and informed her adoptive sister that she did so because Nami hated her own tattoo and she wanted her to love it. Nami never forgot this when the time came to finally get Arlong's tattoo removed.
