Pearl's habit of lighting a fire whenever he senses danger is supposed to be a reflection of his childhood in a forest. After a while, he joined the Krieg Pirates and rose to second division commander. After a while, the crew attempted to cross the Grand Line, but on the seventh day, Dracule Mihawk defeated them.
Because of a storm that stopped the Warlord of the Sea from destroying the Dreadnaught Sabre, the surviving 100 men could withdraw and return to the East Blue. But malnutrition had left Pearl and the rest of the crew seriously weakened.
Krieg fed Pearl after they got to the Baratie so he could regain his strength. Pearl overcame Patty and Carne, two cooks who were strong enough to restrain the weaker crew members, as she ascended into the restaurant overlooking the ocean. Then, when Luffy had hurt him and caused him to bleed for the first time during combat, Pearl was originally left unconscious.
Pearl came back quickly and gave Sanji a hard shake. However, Gin said he had the authority to murder Sanji personally and knocked Pearl unconscious by breaking through his iron plate protection. When Pearl was last seen, she and the other members of the vanquished crew were being taken away by boat.
Pearl gave off a sense of being a little arrogant and asserted that he had never lost a drop of blood in combat. He also agrees with Krieg that one should use all available methods to win, even if it means being dishonest.
He may have hemophobia or be angry at having his flawless record ruined, but if he sees even a drop of his own blood spilled, he becomes extremely agitated. In addition, Pearl concedes Gin and Krieg's greater strength in spite of his conceit.
Pearl is a tall guy whose armor consists of two massive iron plates that cover his back and front and two smaller plates that have big pearls implanted in them for powerful yet dull blows. He describes himself as "a shield man" and "a dandy man" during the introduction, alluding to the iron plates covering his torso and his remarkably attractive face.
Pearl is in charge of the second division of the Krieg Pirates, and Krieg is the only one with power over it.
In keeping with his nickname, Pearl wears gauntlets to increase damage and iron plates for armor, giving him a strong degree of protection. His crew members claim that this makes him immune to cannonballs and bullets. With this, he proclaimed that he had fought 61 engagements without losing a single blood drop and that he could withstand the cannon blast from a battleship without suffering any damage.
Even though Pearl wears iron armor and covers his exposed face with his gauntlets if he should get hurt, he is known to panic and defend himself by creating friction sparks that ignite his body, turning him into "Fire Pearl"—a surprise being that Pearl is unaffected by the intense heat of the flames covering his own body. In this form, he has the ability to set people on fire. Additionally, he possesses the ability to blast several fireballs made of pearls sparked by his fires.
Pearl uses his strong shields to beat and/or crush his adversaries. He also uses fire to bolster his assaults, but the latter may be more indiscriminate given that he almost destroyed the Baratie, the ship his crew intended to use as their new flagship. This, together with his bleeding-induced hysteria, made even Krieg nervous.
In this technique, Pearl uses the shield held in one of his hands to strike his opponent. This was strong enough to temporarily remove Patty and Carne from the Baratie battle.
In this technique, Pearl sets himself on fire and launches tiny, burning pearls at an object because he thinks an opponent is about to harm him.
Almost identical to Pearl Present, with the exception that when Pearl strikes, his shield catches fire, intensifying the force of the blow.
In this technique, Pearl punches as Pearl Present does, but with a lot more force. The name of the attack alludes to natural pearls, which are far more precious.
In this technique, Pearl strikes his opponent's head with a forceful blow using both his left and right-hand shields.
In this technique, Pearl jumps into the air and lands head-first on his opponent, utilizing his weight and helmet pearl to crush them.
In this technique, Pearl fights an opponent who has already been severely injured, he uses the shield of his hand to deliver a forceful blow that keeps the opponent down.
