Shirahoshi in One Piece

Princess Shirahoshi, known as the Mermaid Princess worldwide, is the youngest of King Neptune's children and the princess of the Ryugu Kingdom. She is a giant smelt-whiting mermaid. Shirahoshi, according to the intentions of her late mother, Queen Otohime, wishes to learn more about the outside world.

This was because she had spent most of her childhood imprisoned and raised inside an impregnable tower due to the continual danger of Vander Decken IX. Few people know that she is also the current manifestation of the Ancient Weapon Poseidon.

Shirahoshi’s Past

Shirahoshi was just a baby sixteen years ago but even then, she was bigger than her mother and elder brothers. Her brothers would watch over her at the castle while her mother travelled abroad, preaching to her people. Shirahoshi was four years old when Otohime taught her about the surface world, and she was spotted attending her studies and soothing her exhausted mother.

When Shirahoshi was six, a World Noble's arrival on the island on a wrecked ship caused a stir. Otohime made a hasty exit for the ship's dock. Soon after she arrived, the four royal children did as well. Shirahoshi sobbed and accidentally summoned Sea Kings when she watched her mother being threatened by the noble she was guarding. This stunned everyone in the room and caused the noble to drop out from intense shock.

But Shirahoshi was totally unaware of the Sea Kings. Shirahoshi and her brothers appeared concerned as Otohime decided to accompany the noble to the surface. She stayed in the palace for a week while Neptune tried to cheer her up. Otohime returned unharmed, carrying a piece of paper that might change things.

Shirahoshi and her family were ecstatic that Otohime had finally obtained signatures from individuals. However, the excitement was only fleeting. The box containing all the signatures caught fire one day in Gyoncorde Plaza. Otohime was shot as the soldiers worked to preserve the signatures. Vander Decken IX used his Mato Mato no Mi abilities to brand Shirahoshi amid the mayhem. Shirahoshi, horrified to witness her mother shot, was unaware of his presence.

Shirahoshi and her brothers held their mother's pinky fingers for the last time as she passed away. The only person who saw Otohime's actual killer and notified Shirahoshi about it, was Megalo. To honour her mother's request that she not hate the offender, the princess chose not to inform anyone.

After seeing Shirahoshi's strength, Vander Decken IX decided to marry her and began writing to her. The four royal children told their father Neptune about the love letters flying to Shirahoshi before Otohime's funeral. Shirahoshi and her brothers were warned by Neptune not to attend the burial since there was still danger there. Shirahoshi and her brothers might be seen on a visual broadcast during Fukaboshi's eulogy at Otohime's funeral.

Once per week, Decken continued to write to Shirahoshi. These letters quickly developed into bundles. She was so frightened of him when he began sending menacing marriage offers that she could no longer ignore him. Shirahoshi was imprisoned in Hard-Shell Tower for ten years to ensure her safety. She wanted to go to her mother's grave for ten years and had a lot she wanted to say to her.

When the Straw Hat Pirates arrived at the Fish-Man Island, defeated Hody and his men, and finally imprisoned Decken, Shirahoshi promised Luffy that she would quit weeping. All the Straw Hats (apart from Zoro and Franky) made the same pledge, and Shirahoshi bade them farewell after they all committed to escort her to the surface if they ever crossed paths again.

Shirahoshi’s Personality

Shirahoshi is quite soft inside despite her stature. She usually becomes terrified, and she cries uncontrollably when she becomes disturbed. She is pampered with attention by her family. She insists that no one has ever yelled at her, and she sobbed when Luffy was the first to do it.

She will start crying and describe the perpetrator as frightening whenever someone yells at her, taking it to mean that they are angry with her. Shirahoshi, in fact, is prone to crying anytime she shows feelings like excitement, fear, or grief.

Shirahoshi is appreciative of other people. She is highly attentive to her family and her kingdom, claiming that leaving Hard-Shell Tower would be selfish even if she wanted to. She uses "-sama" to address everyone and is very courteous. She also gently declined Decken's offer by explaining that "he wasn't her type".

She is really curious about the outside world because, after ten years alone, she knows very little about it. She also appears to be unfamiliar with Devil Fruits. She views Luffy as typical of human males, much like the residents of Kuja. Additionally, she has a shallow stimulation level because she is imprisoned.

She frequently overstimulates due to the events that occurred during her time with Luffy, which causes her to become emotionally charged. Shirahoshi accidentally angered some royals trying to grab her attention due to her lack of expertise in appropriate communication.

She exhibits signs of naiveness by mistakenly thinking a balloon dummy was her father and only realising this just before being taken prisoner (even if it was their purpose to be taken prisoner). Despite having a frail personality, she is friendly and innocent like a kid, as seen by her commitment to return to the castle by dinnertime after leaving her tower.

Shirahoshi is incredibly kind since she does not harbour any bitterness or hatred towards anyone, not even those who have wronged her and her family.

Shirahoshi’s Appearance

Shirahoshi is a giant-sized mermaid who, excluding the length of her tail, is roughly eight to ten times the average human. She is described as "cute but huge" in her introduction. She was around seven or eight times the size of a human-sized mermaid, in Caribou's assessment. She was bigger than her mother and brothers even as a baby, but she was still little enough to fit in her equally big father's hands.

She has pink hair that is incredibly long and flowing, with a taiyaki-shaped hair grip. Even in relation to her giant-like stature and a lot of her upper body is visible. She has a ruffle around her waist where her broad striped tail finishes. Due to her shyness, she frequently has blush marks on her cheeks. Garp remarked that Shirahoshi's attractiveness alone exceeded everyone's expectations and that some have compared it to Boa Hancock's beauty.

She sports a pearl-studded yellow halter top with a strap that widens and protrudes from her neck, baring her cleavage. Along with belly chains and clam earrings, she also has a rag hanging down in front of her. She has a very long tail with pink and bright red stripes. She wore a light-blue shirt as she and her family arrived at the Red Port in preparation for the Levely.

She wore a polka dot crop top with straps that flew behind her head when she was four years old, and her tail alone was more significant than her mother's. She wore a light-coloured crop top with floating straps when she was six.

Shirahoshi’s Abilities

Shirahoshi has some power over the kingdom as her family rules which makes her the Mermaid Princess and King Neptune's daughter. Still, it is unclear how much overall influence she possesses. The Minister of the Right claimed her abrupt departure from the Ryugu Palace would lead to a national crisis.

She can easily lift a person of average size with one hand because she is a giant-sized mermaid. She is among the ocean's top swimmers, like all mermaids. Despite her ignorance of a variety of things, Shirahoshi is intelligent.

Poseidon

Shirahoshi has inherited the ancient Poseidon ability to rule the Sea Kings from her predecessor. Shirahoshi is the only character with the extraordinary capacity to summon and converse with the giant megafauna of the One Piece world using sonar waves, unlike Merfolk and Fish-Men. She produces sonar waves through her screams that attract sea kings to her. She is also capable of using Kenbunshoku Haki.

Otohime believed that if she experienced a severe shock, she would unintentionally set sea kings on a rampage when she was younger and had no idea of her ability. This is hypothetical, yet it was later discovered that sea kings are intelligent animals. According to Otohime, this skill is the most terrifying in the world.

It has the power to drastically alter the course of history. However, Shirahoshi's abilities can potentially submerge the entire globe in the ocean if misused. Shirahoshi had spoken to the Sea Kings during the adventure, and compared to the time she summoned them as a youngster, she could interact with them ultimately.

She is the living embodiment of the weapon Poseidon, and this capacity makes her one of the Ancient Weapons that the World Government fears.

Shirahoshi’s Relationships

Family

Her brothers, Fukaboshi, Ryuboshi, Manboshi, and her father, King Neptune, are all concerned for her welfare. Shirahoshi is valued as a treasure by King Neptune. Because of this, they keep her safe from Vander Decken IX in the hard-shell tower. For the same reason, the royal guards are only permitted to enter her room for a maximum of five minutes.

Neptune was ready to defend his daughter when a World Noble attempted to seize Shirahoshi during the Levely, even if it meant abandoning Otohime's goal. Shirahoshi also misses her late mother, Otohime, and has longed to go to her tomb since it was established.

Because of her love for her mother, the princess endured enormous suffering to fulfill her mother's dying wish by forgiving Hody for killing Otohime.

Friends

Monkey D. Luffy

Shirahoshi first believed Luffy was an assassin out to get her and terrified him. She relaxed around him when he deflected a flying axe intended for her, and she realised that he had saved Megalo. Luffy yelled at Shirahoshi when she prodded his face while he was eating. Luffy is the first to yell at Shirahoshi, who breaks down in tears.

She displays great open carelessness while Luffy is there because she believes in Luffy's skills. Luffy realised that Shirahoshi is stronger than he had initially believed after discovering how she had carried out her mother's final request for so long. He then refers to her as "Weakhoshi" since he still thinks she is a crybaby.

Shirahoshi vows to stop being a crybaby the next time they interact as the Straw Hats depart. Luffy also assures her that he will accompany her to a forest on land. Despite her initial reluctance, she resolves to go to the Levely because she does not want Luffy to continue to refer to her as weak.

Monkey D. Garp

Shirahosi and her family had to travel to the Levely and the Ryugu Kingdom. Vice Admiral Garp was in charge of accompanying them. She got into good terms with him knowing he is Luffy's grandfather.

Megalo

She adores and pays attention to her pet shark, Megalo, who was once a military animal used by the Neptune Army. While imprisoned in Hard-Shell Tower, Megalo was the only friend she could communicate with. Megalo was the only one who knew the truth about Otohime's death before Hody revealed that he was Otohime's killer; he had privately told Shirahoshi the information.

Straw Hat Pirates

All of the Straw Hats have earned Shirahoshi's friendship, and she is grateful to them all for protecting her, her family, and the kingdom from the New Fish-Man Pirates. She even wished they would stay on the island longer to get to know them better. The Straw Hats (excluding Zoro and Franky) committed to one day bringing Shirahoshi to the surface as she bid them all a gloomy farewell.

Nami

Shirahoshi was eager to make friends with Nami because they had similar backgrounds. Shirahoshi calls Nami by her real name, Nami-chin-sama, instead of Nami-sama.

Jinbe

Since she was a young child, Shirahoshi has known Jinbe and has always respected him. Jinbe has grown to appreciate Shirahoshi's dedication to her mother, Otohime, and her devotion to her commitment to not harbour hatred towards Otohime's murderer, Hody. Jinbe promises to defend Shirahoshi and her principles as well.

Straw Hats' Friends

Shirahoshi rapidly grew close to Vivi and Rebecca at Mary Geoise because of their mutual respect for Luffy and similar scenarios of their pasts, with Luffy saving their kingdoms and protecting the people of their land.

Enemies

Vander Decken IX

As Vander Decken IX sent her several marriage offers, Shirahoshi is scared of him. The Mermaid Princess is Decken's absolute obsession, and he will stop at nothing to win her. Ultimately, she decides not to date Decken because he is not her type. He was rejected, and Decken became determined to kill her. She only managed to survive because of Luffy.

Hody Jones

Hody Jones views Shirahoshi as a threat to his ambitions because of her capacity to conjure Sea Kings. Shirahoshi, on the other hand, complied with her mother's dying request by not hating the person who killed her, although knowing that Hody was the one who had killed her mother and did not disclose his crime to anybody. Hody, in turn, made fun of Shirahoshi for her compassion.

Caribou

When Caribou learned that she was the Ancient Weapon Poseidon, he showed up and attempted to abduct her. When they arrived, Sanji, Zoro, and Luffy caught Caribou in the act. Shirahoshi hugged Luffy and thanked him for saving her after he dispatched Caribou by hurling him outside the palace.

Charlos

The World Noble Charlos tried twice to enslave Shirahoshi after spotting her. If it weren't for Mjosgard's help and Sai and Leo's later help, he probably would have succeeded.

Other

Donquixote Mjosgard

When Shirahoshi was six, a stranded Mjosgard threatened her mother with a gun. This prompted Shirahoshi to experience intense emotional distress, which unintentionally led to the summoning of a group of Sea Kings. Ten years later, Mjosgard saved her from being sold into slavery by another World Noble to pay for the debt he owed her mother. Additionally, Mjosgard pledged to keep Shirahoshi and her family safe all throughout the Levely.
