Manga Debut | Chapter 239 |
Region | Sky |
Skypiea is located on a gigantic mass of fossilized clouds known as Imperial Cumulus. This cloud seems to wander around the skies near Jaya and happens to be so dense that it manages to block out the sunlight almost completely, which darkens the place over the Blue Sea where it floats by and gives the impression that night has arrived. Skypiea has many areas in it which are:
The Heaven's Gate is located in the White Sea and it is also the entrance to Skypiea. The visitors who enter Skypiea must pay 1,000,000,000 extol per person. The gatekeeper uses her Vision Dial to collect the entrance fees. She is able to understand the events around her and lets people enter Skypiea without collecting the fees, but didn't warn them not to become criminals. Many outsiders did become criminals as the gatekeeper failed to explain how the fee system works.
Angel Island was Skypiea’s main residential area. It is completely made up of the island’s clouds and is bisected by Lovely Beach. It was later on destroyed by Enel.
Angel Beach is where the Straw Hats met Pagaya and Conis for the first time.
Lovely Street is a well-known area of Angel Island and it is their main marketplace. This road has many shops of all kinds like dial and food shops.
Gan Fall lives in a humble cabin that is present on the outskirts of Skypiea which is beyond the range of Enel. It is surrounded by a lot of nature like an oversized tree and a vegetable garden where Gan Fall grows pumpkins.
The Upper Yard is the other half of Jaya that was blasted by the Knock Up stream. It is way bigger than Angel Island. It is the place where all the rulers of Skypiea resided. The animals and plants on Upper Yard grow in huge sizes due to the decrease in the atmosphere. There is a giant beanstalk that is called the Giant Jack that towers up in the center of the island and pierces through the ancient city of Shandora and God’s Shrine.
The Hidden Cloud Village was expelled from the Upper Yard and then the Shandians built this village for themselves; it is well hidden on the island. This village is undetectable to Enel’s mantra. However, Enel discovered this place, and the entire village was destroyed by a thunderbolt.
Wagomuland is the amusement park of Skypiea. Its mascot is a crudely carved statue of Usopp, who was the person who introduced rubber bands to the Skypiean people.
The Pumpkin Cafe is a new restaurant that opened in Skypiea. It is run by Raki and Conis. The bowls and cups in this cafe are in the shape of pumpkins. This restaurant is famous for its pumpkin noodles.
Before Skypiea, the Moon has been constant in the series and is known for its three races; Skypieans, Shandians and Birkans that helped in creating the Automata. When the resources on the moon were fully exploited, the Birkans, along with the Shandorians and Skypiens, left the moon and the Automata behind. They all left their lives behind on Birka to start a new beginning on the ‘Blue Star’. Gan Fall said that Skypiea had existed before Jaya even got knocked into the sky. During that time, all the treasure from the Sea used to get knocked into the sky and the Skypieans would collect it.
Later on, the other half of Jaya was called the Upper Yard which was knocked into the sky. Upper Yard was a unique part of the earth that the Shandians had never seen before, which is why they were fighting so hard to claim it. The Skypieans were successful in driving off the Shadians and claimed the Upper Yard. Gan Fall wanted to return the Upper Yard to Shandia but his negotiations failed and Enel took over.
After a few years, Enel destroyed his homeland with the help of his devil fruit abilities. He gathered all his followers and left for Skypiea and made himself a God. He then started living in the Upper Yard but for the other Skypieans, this became a forbidden land. After Enel took over, the people of Skypiea lived in constant fear. He developed a high mantra and the ability to sense electric fields that allowed him to hear conversations and this made it easy to keep tabs on what was going on in Skypiea.
If anyone disobeyed him, Enel would shoot a giant bolt of lightning down from the sky and kill the person. Enel made all the outsiders who came to Skypiea criminals and deemed any action that they did as an offense. Anyone who helped the criminals would become a criminal themselves. This made the people of Skypiea feeble and weak.
After the Straw Hats arrived in Skypiea, they fought against Enel and his subordinates. Even Shandia was involved in this fight. Enel tried to destroy Skypiea but in the end, he was defeated by Luffy. After this huge fight, the Skypieans and Shandians started living together in peace in the Upper Yard. Shandia managed to get their home back and with the help of the Skypieans, they rebuilt their own home.
The people who live on Skypiea are:
Gan Fall is the current God of Skypiea. He was also a mercenary and was known as the ‘Knight of the Sky’. He is a nobleman with a big heart. He will even help a random stranger at the risk of his life.
Ubau was the first god of Skypiea. He wanted to live on Vearth that Shandia had called home but his desire was so strong that he started a war between the Skypieans and Shandia that lasted for 400 years.
Enel was the former God of Skypiea and he was responsible for destroying his hometown Birka. He is the main antagonist of the Skypiea Arc. After his defeat, Enel arrived on the moon and became its new ruler.
Ohm was known as the ‘Skybreeder Ohm’. He was one of the four priests of Enel and a high-ranking member of God’s Army. He is usually seen with his giant dog steed, Holy.
Yama is a Birkan and he was a commander of the Divine Soldiers that worked under Enel. He is one of the supporting characters of the Skypiea arc.
Satori was known as ‘Satori of the Forest’. He was one of Enel’s top warriors and a part of the Skypiea Priests. He is the older brother of Hotori and Kotori.
Shura is known as ‘Sky Rider’ and he is one of the four priests of the Upper Yard, who was in charge of punishing the criminals. He used to ride a giant flying bird known as Fuza.
Gedatsu was also known as Sky Boss Gedatsu. He is one of Enel’s priests who used to punish criminals and he currently works at Ukkari Hot-Springs.

The animals that are found in Skypiea are the Sky Fish, Speedy Shrimp, the Giant South Bird, Sky Lamprey, Cloud Wolves and the Octopus Balloon.
The ancient drawing depicts the three races of the sky which were a group of people working together towards one goal. This means that at some point the Shandorians, Skypieans, and Birkans may have even been one and the same race. Skypiea was inspired by Guatemala.
The history of Skypiea and its people bears many similarities to the Conquest of America, during which European settlers tried to conquer and drive Indigenous Nations out of their homeland. Like those European settlers, the Skypieans took their homeland from Shandia.
