Sphinx is the place where Edward Newgate aka Whitebeard was born. This place is currently under Marco’s protection. This island is not affiliated with the World Government due to its poverty and its inability to pay the Heavenly Tribute. It is quite a small island but in reality, the people of the island live in a remote town in the valley of the mountains.

The World Government had abandoned Sphinx due to the people’s inability to pay the Heavenly Tribute (taxes) which made the island a lawless place. Later on, Edward Newgate aka Witebeard was born on this island. Even though Whitebeard became a famous pirate, he cared about his hometown and used whatever he earned from his piracy to support his hometown.
After Whitebeard passed away, the Whitebeard Pirate’s former first division commander Marco became the village’s hidden doctor to carry out his captain’s legacy and protect the people of Sphinx. Nekomamushi and his guardians arrived on Sphinx they set out to find Marco and the rest of the Whitebeard crew members to join the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance so that they could free Wano from the Beast Pirates. After they turned Nekomamushi down, Marco spoke about his desire to protect the village above anything and asked him to pass on a message to Luffy.
After Marco had left for the Onigashima Raid, the Marines had come to Sphinx to seize WhiteBeard’s treasure. However, Whitebeard’s son Weevil fought them and protected Sphinx, in order to defeat Weevil Admiral Ryukugyu was called in who captured and defeated Weevil. After leaving Wano, Marco returned back to Sphinx.
When he reached back he found out that the Marines had attacked Sphinx and took Weevil away. He later on came up on a plan on how to recue Weevil.

Edward Newgate, aka Whitebeard, was the captain for the Whitebeard Pirates. He possessed the Quake Quake Devil fruit which is considered as the strongest Paramecia type. He is also known as the 'Strongest Man in the World' and 'Man Closest to the One Piece'. He is also seen as an equal to the Pirate King Gol D. Roger. People said that Whitebeard had the power to end the world as he had the ability to tilt the ocean, create tsunamis and fight thousands of people at once.
Marco is the former first Division Commander of the Whitebeard Pirates. He started out as an apprentice of the crew and he had become on of Whitebeard’s closest confidant and his right-hand man. After Whitebeard’s death, Marco took the leadership role of the Whitebeard Pirates till it got disbanded. After the Onigashima Raid, Marco retired from piracy and settled down in Sphinx.
Oide is a little girl who lives on Sphinx. She has blushy cheeks, brown pigtails with brown eyes. She wears a short,organe long-sleeved dress with a round wool hat which has dots on the brim.

A Sphinx is a large powerful creature which has dark humanoid face with a winged, leonine body. The Sphinx mimics the words that it hears from the people around it but they don't really understand those words. They are not that intelligent.
Whitebeard died during the Marineford War.
Weevil is supposed to be Whitebeard's proclaimed son although Vegapunk has yet to verify if Weevil is actually Whitebeard’s son.
