History

Past

Toko's biological parents left her behind when she was a small child, and it was Shimotsuki Yasuie, a former daimyo, who discovered her there. She was adopted by Yasuie, who raised her as his daughter. Toko could no longer express her negative feelings by eating a SMILE fruit that was defective; at that point, she was limited to smiling. She was auctioned off to work in the Flower Capital in order to make ends meet. She started working as a kamuro for Komurasaki, the courtesan and gave her father in Ebisu Town the money she earned.

Wano Country Arc

Toko went to a soba stall run by Sanji in the Flower Capital, but four thugs from the Kyoshiro Family knocked the bowl out of her hands after she ordered her soba in an attempt to scare Sanji. After Sanji and Franky beat the goons, Toko fled into a neighboring alley and emerged, much to Sanji's surprise, receiving another bowl of soba. Toko hurried to join Komurasaki in her parade through the Flower Capital after eating the soba.

To attend the shogun Orochi's feast, Toko and Komurasaki traveled to Orochi Castle. Toko heard the other guests make fun of Orochi as he began talking about the reappearance of Kozuki Oden's Nine Red Scabbards, and she couldn't help but chuckle. Then Orochi assaulted her with his blade, and Toko was dragged away by the geisha Nico Robin, whom she had met at the soba stall when Komurasaki intervened to protect her.

Toko pleaded with Robin to assist Komurasaki while Orochi was going crazy in the banquet hall, but Robin was more concerned with keeping Toko safe. When Toko saw Brook's spirit form, she screamed and passed out. Orochi chased Toko and Robin after Kyoshiro knocked Komurasaki out, but Nami hit him with Zeus's thunderbolt.

Robin and her crew dumped Toko down in the red-light area after making their way out of the palace. The girl and Hiyori ran away when Orochi paid Kamazo to assassinate Toko, and they were subsequently pursued to the Ringo area. While running from the assassin, they found into Zoro and Gyukimaru fighting near Oihagi Bridge. After that, Zoro and Kamazo fought to keep Toko and the woman safe.

Zoro was taken by Toko and Hiyori to a home in the Northern Cemetery, where Hiyori healed his wound after he had vanquished Kamazo and became comatose due to the assassin's wound. Toko then took a seat next to them as Hiyori told Zoro about her background and her relationship with Momonosuke. Toko fell asleep alongside Zoro when he wanted to take a nap.

Afterward, Brook visited the residence and informed them about the burial of Komurasaki and the upcoming execution of Tonoyasu. Hiyori, Zoro, and Brook chased after Toko as she hurried to the Flower Capital to help her father after learning of his predicament. Later, the gang made it to Rasetsu Town just in time to see the execution take place. Toko was devastated and depressed to see her father shot and killed.

Toko rushed to her father and tried to resuscitate him with Usopp's toad oil, disobeying Hiyori's advice. When Orochi saw Toko, he attempted to kill her as well, but Zoro and Sanji protected the young woman. Then, as Zoro was fleeing the place of execution, he seized Toko. Amid the subsequent confusion, Zoro gave Toko to Sanji. Sanji gave the girl to Usopp when he was being attacked by Drake, and Usopp took off running with the girl.

Toko sobbed herself to sleep after making it out of the mayhem in Rasetsu Town safely. As Brook, Usopp, and Robin slipped out of the Flower Capital, she cowered behind his robes. Robin held the sleeping Toko when they were aboard a boat. Toko paid a visit to Yasuie's tomb after he had been buried.

Afterwards, Toko and Hitetsu took part in the Fire Festival. She altered the wording on her lantern from wishing to see her father again to appreciating him after discussing her father's sacrifice with Hitetsu. After lighting the candle, she observed the lantern ascend into the sky with the others. Toko joined Hitetsu in commemorating Wano's release following the end of the Raid on Onigashima.

Personality

As a result of SMILE, Toko is unable to express any negative feelings. Even when she is devastated like she was after her father's execution, she never stops laughing. She is unable to contain her laughter, as seen by the time she laughed excessively at Orochi's dinner in spite of the repercussions. Furthermore, she never stopped laughing, even when Orochi tried to murder her and held her at swordpoint.

She is unable to express negative feelings, but despite this, she is frequently genuinely joyful and kind. She enjoys making jokes, particularly with her name. She is a cheerful young child who is quick to express her gratitude, as seen by the time she thanked Sanji for giving her some soba noodles. She generally takes her work seriously, but in order to sample the soba, she was ready to arrive late to her courtesan's parade.

She is gullible and prone to being influenced by her feelings. She didn't wait for Hiyori or Zoro to arrive when she learned of her father's execution; she fled without considering the dangers of returning to the Flower Capital. She thought that her father may be saved by Usopp's toad oil after he was put to death. She paid no attention to the danger that was drawing near her or Hiyori's pleas as she worked to resuscitate him.

Toko is a little child with big black eyes and a big skull. Her hair is pink and rather short, with harsh fringe over her eyebrows and a slope that ends in points at the sides. She smiles broadly all the time. She wears a crimson kimono with a little yellow bow wrapped around the waist and a purple obi with blush-pink dots.

Relationships

Shimotsuki Yasuie

Toko and her adoptive father had a strong relationship. She is unaware that she and Yasuie are not related by blood because she hasn't seen her biological parents since she was a baby. In order to support the people of Ebisu Town, she would send the majority of her earnings to Tonoyasu. Despite being a target for the shogun, she fled to the Flower Capital upon learning of his capture and impending death.

After her father was shot, Toko sobbed uncontrollably and even attempted to resuscitate him with Usopp's toad oil. Toko composed a thank-you note to her dead father on her skyboat during the Fire Festival and launched it into the sky.

Kozuki Hiyori

Toko was Hiyori's kamuro, and she was the oiran Komurasaki. She is quite fond of Hiyori, as seen by the worry she felt when the latter left to try Sanji's well-known soba without telling her. When the shogun tried to kill her for mocking Toko, she attempted to protect him from Orochi, which resulted in Komurasaki being "killed" by Kyoshiro. When Orochi sent an assassin after Toko and escaped the Flower Capital with her, Hiyori attempted to defend her once more.

Toko stated that this is their secret, thus she was also aware of the truth regarding Hiyori and her ancestry. Her upbeat and smart personality enabled Hiyori to advance. Fearing about Toko's safety, Hiyori hurried after the wild girl as soon as she learned of her father's set death. Toko was greeted with happiness upon his return to the Flower Capital, where he now resides contentedly with Hiyori, following Kozuki Momonosuke's shogunal accession.

Roronoa Zoro

After Zoro saved her and Hiyori from Kamazo, Toko was extremely appreciative of his deeds and assisted in tending to Zoro's wounds. She was even more surprised that he didn't find her jokes funny. In spite of this, Zoro still loves Toko because, after she fled in an attempt to rescue her father, he pursued her and Hiyori in an attempt to save her.

Zoro was originally incensed to witness Toko laughing wildly at Yasuie as if she was mocking her own father's death along with the people of Ebisu Town until Hiyori revealed why she couldn't even grieve for her father, who was dear to her. Zoro was secretly furious to see that Toko had also suffered at the hands of Orochi's depraved malice. Zoro even explicitly disobeyed Orochi by using Sanji's assistance to shield Toko from his launched bullets.

Nico Robin

When the two first met, it was at Sanji's soba noodle stall, and Robin liked the young kamuro right away, even laughing at her joke. Their paths would cross again at Orochi's dinner. After laughing at the Shogun, Toko became his target, and Robin abandoned her goal to keep her safe.

When Robin saw the girl later in Rasetsu Town showing up at the execution site and placing herself in danger, she became quite concerned. After they make their way to Amigasa Village, Robin is primarily seen at her side, cradling her in bed and accompanying her to her father's burial.

Tenguyama Hitetsu

Tenguyama Hitetsu was entrusted with Toko's care at the Fire Festival. He talked about how her adoptive father made the ultimate sacrifice to save her and Wano's future out of reverence for her late father. Hitetsu broke down in tears as Toko changed the wording on her lantern to express her gratitude to Yasuie. Later, Toko would join Hitetsu in celebrating Wano's freedom.

Kurozumi Orochi

Toko provoked the shogun's fury at the feast by laughing uncontrollably at Orochi when he warned his guest of the Nine Red Scabbards' impending return. Komurasaki begged him not to murder her because she was a child, but he tried to kill her ruthlessly. After Komurasaki was "killed" by Kyoshiro for her disobedience, Orochi proceeded to attempt Toko's murder.

Once Toko managed to get away, Orochi hired Kamazo to find and murder her since he would not allow her to live. Later, after eating a failing SMILE fruit, Orochi would murder her father Yasuie, leading her to experience deep sadness and sorrow that she is unable to communicate. He spotted Toko again at Rasetsu Town, and he spent no time in attempting to kill her, continuing to hold her responsible for Komurasaki's alleged demise.
