When the Whitebeard Pirates first came to Wano Country thirty years ago, Vista was one of them. After being shipwrecked, the group came upon Kozuki Oden who asked Whitebeard to let him join their crew before traveling.
Vista was a member of the Whitebeard Pirates in 1992 and was there on board Moby Dick when Shiki revealed his plans. Vista was thrilled by Portgas D. Ace's confidence in his several unsuccessful attempts to kill Whitebeard once he was accepted into the crew.
After Aokiji froze the bay and rendered the ships immobile, Vista engaged in combat alongside the other Whitebeard Pirates. Later, he used his swords to block Vice Admiral Lonz's axe strike. Vista successfully deflected Mihawk's blade with his two sabers when Marco ordered him to support Luffy against Mihawk's attack before fighting the Warlord.
Vista and Mihawk made the decision to put off the fight in order to avoid being cornered as the Pacifista forces closed in. Vista showed terror as the admirals defeated fellow commanders Marco and Jozu. Vista cut down three cannonballs aimed at the Straw Hat captain and pushed him to continue as Whitebeard ordered everyone to support Luffy in his mission to save Ace.
Vista remarked on how well the two of them worked together when Ace was set free and started fighting alongside Luffy. Akainu struck Ace in the chest with his molten fist, shocking Vista, Marco, and Atmos. To keep Akainu away from Luffy, he and Marco assaulted him simultaneously, and Vista said he later regretted letting his guard down.
Vista became enraged at Blackbeard for making negative comments about Whitebeard as well as over the murders of Ace and Thatch and had to be restrained by his other crew members. Vista and the other Whitebeard Pirates got ready to fight Akainu after Whitebeard passed away in order to protect Luffy. He and the surviving members of Whitebeard's crew departed when the conflict was over.
At a secret spot in the New World, he went to the funeral of Whitebeard and Ace together with the rest of the crew. The remains of the Whitebeard Pirates met the Blackbeard Pirates in battle a year after the battle at Marineford, but were finally defeated. After being defeated, they fled and haven't been seen since.
Vista appears to be highly devoted to Whitebeard, like the other division leaders of the Whitebeard Pirates. He looks very humble. He showed a willingness to engage in combat with Dracule Mihawk and was grateful for the opportunity.
Vista hated Blackbeard and had to be stopped from fighting Blackbeard when he insulted Whitebeard's failure to save his crewmate.
Vista is a tall, broad-chested, muscular, tanned man with a curly, black mustache, a blue top hat, and earrings. He is seen wearing white gloves, a cloak that covers his shirt, and a semi-open dark blue shirt with white diamond-striped light blue trousers.
When Vista was a little child, he had bangs that hung on his forehead and his hair up in a ponytail. He was wearing a black shirt with white cross patterns on the chest and a white collar with black shoes and black trousers.
Vista holds a charge over the crew's lower-ranking members as the leader of the 5th division of the Whitebeard Pirates. He is considered to be the Whitebeard Pirates' strongest swordsman. The fact that Vista battled against certain Warlords of the Sea and admirals as well as several Marine commanders during the Summit War of Marineford and suffered no serious wounds tells us about his immense strength.
Vista has extraordinary physical power. He was able to slice down cannonballs in midair and effortlessly block an ax-wielding giant's attack. Even Mihawk admits Vista's amazing ability of dual-wielding swordsmanship. Even Mihawk's rising slash strike, which is strong enough to pierce battleships, was blocked by him.
Vista demonstrated his control of Busoshoku Haki during his battle with Akainu.
Vista is capable of using Kenbunshoku Haki.
Vista carries two sabers, one with a purple hilt that is clearly identifiable from the other by the various sheaths that are fastened to his belt.
Vista is particularly attached to Whitebeard, calling him "father" and crying upon his death along with the other commanders.
Vista had previously been shown to be happy with Ace's brazenness in his several unsuccessful attempts to kill Whitebeard. He later developed a bond with him and supported the mission to save him during the Summit War of Marineford. He also attacked Akainu when Ace was fatally wounded by Akainu.
Vista hates Blackbeard. When Vista became enraged, he tried to step in and hit Teach but was stopped by the other members of his crew. Teach and his crew were able to defeat Whitebeard while the other Whitebeard Pirates were forced to watch helplessly.
Vista and Yasopp were seen looking at each other angrily at the end of the Summit War of Marineford. There was an incident between the two of them in the past, according to the Blue Deep databook.
