In the Wano Arc, it was hinted that Zoro might be the son of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the last daimyo of Ringo in the Land of Wano. Unfortunately, it is not confirmed and the identity of Zoro’s father still remains one of the biggest mysteries in the One Piece series that are still unanswered.
Roronoa Zoro, popularly known as Pirate Hunter Zoro, is a fictional character in the ongoing fan-favorite manga series and its anime adaptation, One Piece, written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda.

Roronoa Zoro is one of the infamous Straw Hat Pirates and the right-hand man of Monkey D. Luffy, the captain of the Straw Hat Pirates and the protagonist of the One Piece series. Zoro is a master swordsman with a dream to defeat Dracule Mihawk in battle and become the greatest swordsman in the world. Ever since Wano Country was mentioned in the series with the introduction of Shimotsuki Ryuma, a legendary samurai, fans came up with a lot of theories that Zoro might be somehow related to Wano Country, a land of samurai and great swordsmen.
For a long time, it was a popular belief in the One Piece fan community that Zoro might be the son of the Shogun of Land of Wano but this theory was disproved immediately as soon as we got details about the Land of Wano and its shogun. In chapter 1023 of the One Piece manga, fans were teased about Zoro’s heritage. In this chapter, some samurai of the Land of Wano pointed out that Zoro is the spitting image of Shimotsuki Ushimaru, the last daimyo of the Ringo district in the Land of Wano, and also possesses swordsman skills similar to him. Interestingly enough, Ushimaru is a descendant of Shimotsuki Ryuma, the legendary samurai Zoro fought in Thriller Bark, or his corpse at least. This would mean that Zoro is a descendant of the God of Blades, Shimotsuki Ryuma himself. To add to this, it was pointed out that Zoro was the one who brought Shisui, the legendary black blade of Ryuma, back to the Land of Wano.
Although it holds a lot of water and would surely make Zoro’s story a lot more interesting than it already is, it is still not confirmed. Still, it is the closest we have gotten to revealing the mystery behind Zoro’s heritage. Hopefully, we will soon get more information about it and the mystery behind Zoro’s heritage might be revealed soon.
