X Drake "Red Flag" is the leader of the Marine Secret Special Unit SWORD. Drake, the son of Marine-turned-pirate Diez Barrels, was a member of the Barrels Pirates before turning against them and joining the Marines. He went by Dory when he was a young adult.
He publicly deserted his position as a rear admiral and started the Drake Pirates to disguise himself as a pirate. He was one of the twelve pirates known as the "Worst Generation" and had a bounty of 222,000,000 Berries before the two-year time skip.
After the time skip, Drake's mission as an undercover spy saw him and his crew subject to the Beasts Pirates, led by Kaidou of the Four Emperors. As one of the crew's Shinuchi, Drake played the role of Tobiroppo, one of the strongest six. But when his betrayal was discovered, he joined the Ninja-Pirate-Mink-Samurai Alliance.

Drake grew up loving the Marines and greatly respected his father, Diez Barrels, who was an officer in the organization. He continued to follow Barrels even after he turned to piracy because he still viewed his father as a wonderful man. Thirteen years ago, Drake was a young man who seemed to be the reluctant, submissive type, obeying his father despite the abuse he was subjected to.
Despite his power, Drake was a coward who infrequently participated in his crew's activities, according to Barrels. By then, Drake had already abandoned his family and fled whenever he had the chance. He does not currently appear to be bearing any resentment against those responsible for his father's death.
Drake still supports the Marines despite the terrible treatment he received from his father, risking his life to spy on one of the Four Emperors' crews. He declared that he would sooner die than expose his steadfast loyalty, even when torture was an option. He only continued to fight because he still had a mission to complete. Drake is not picky about forthcoming companions in criminals and outlaws, showing his adaptability about his views on justice.
At the moment, Drake always shows a harsh, dead-serious conduct. He appears to be a patient, perceptive pirate, and refrains from pointless violence since he is aware that doing so would draw unwanted attention. He might even step in during battles in which he is not involved. When violence is necessary, Drake exhibits an unexpectedly cruel and murderous disposition.
Despite generally serious behavior, Drake is known to occasionally lose his cool under particular circumstances. In particular, the sight of a naked woman causes him to faint to the point where he avoids going into places like bathhouses. Even if this weakness is clearly present, he will deny it. Drake is incredibly obedient and goal-oriented, evident even while pretending to be working for Kaidou.
Drake is a tall, lean, and muscular man who wears a combination of a domino mask over his eyes and a white-plumed cocked hat with his crew's Jolly Roger on the side. Drake has reddish brown hair styled with brush-like sideburns underneath this headpiece.
He has a massive "X" on his chest and upper body and a smaller "X" on his broad chin, which is not sure to be a scar or a tattoo. Along with being in his name, the "X's" stand for the Roman Numeral X for 10, not the English letter. His bicorn resembles the head of a pterodactyl when viewed from above.
His rather frail arms and legs are covered in armor, including elbow-high gloves and knee-high boots. The armor, which is rounded for the gloves and features a crisp maple leaf pattern for the shoes at the front of his knees, also covers the gaps between the gloves and the boots.
He wears a leather shirt and trousers on the rest of his body. Drake fastens his pants, sword, and ax to his waist with a belt with an oversized, ornately crafted circular clasp. He also wears a black cape with a white fur lining around the neck that is crimson inside.
He first appears on a winter island that seems to be under Kaidou's protection after the Summit War, with a scarf tied around his neck. While with the Barrels Pirates as a young adult on the icy Minion Island, Drake wore a tattered, bloodied shirt with trousers and boots, but later, after a reported escape, he was able to obtain a somewhat frayed, thick winter coat with a hood as well as a pair of dark gloves. He was tiny for his age and easily mistaken for a youngster by the Donquixote Pirates due to the mental and physical trauma he endured at the hands of his father.
Drake loses his bicorn after the time skip, revealing his bright orange hair that has since been spiked into a fauxhawk. He wears a black headband with an eyehole carved out of it in place of his bicorn and his crew's Jolly Roger next to the eyehole. A thin piece of cloth from the headband—possibly trimmed from the hole—is put over his right eye, and the headband is angled to cover his left eye.
Oda illustrated the Supernovas as youngsters in SBS Volume 64. Drake is seen in a little, torn Marine uniform, showing his early aspiration to join the Marines. He was shorter-haired, had a rounder face, and carried a wooden sword. The "X" was not yet visible on his chin. In contrast to the harsh and severe guy he became as an adult, he seems to have been a happy and playful child.
Drake holds much power over his subordinates because he is the captain of SWORD, the Drake Pirates, and the secret special force of Marine Headquarters. He was the Barrels Pirates' strongest member from an early age. Before publicly defecting, he rose to the position of Rear Admiral in the Marines.
He is a member of the Worst Generation who made it through the first part of the Grand Line, one of the seven difficult and dangerous ways through Paradise and received a bounty of 220,000,000 Berries before leaving for the New World. Drake survived the ordeal and became more well-known despite being attacked on an island Emperor Kaidou loved.
He held a significant position in the crew with control over the lower-ranking members at some point during the two-year time skip, becoming one of the Tobiroppo, the six strongest Shinuchi of the Beasts Pirates, before his treason was discovered and he departed the ship.
Drake is a very skilled fighter; he single-handedly broke up a fight between two other Supernovas, quickly dispatched a Super Rookie, and was one of the few pirates on the Sabaody Archipelago who could harm a Pacifista without help.
Kozuki Sukiyaki claims that Drake demolished Amigasa Village by himself after defeating the five samurai who were keeping watch over it. Drake used a single attack to dispatch the intoxicated old giant Juki during the raid on Onigashima. Although he lost the conflict with CP0, Guernica hailed Drake for his incredible durability. Although he is a formidable individual in his own right, he has an unexpected weakness: he faints when he sees a naked woman.
Drake is incredibly strong; he easily deflected simultaneous attacks from Urouge and Killer, two other members of the Worst Generation, and needed just two hits to knock a Pacifista into a structure. He also has an enormous supply of stamina and an excellent tolerance for pain. He also managed to survive getting after his throat was stabbed for a while.
Drake is also a brilliant man. He established his own crew and effectively pretended to be a pirate commander to accomplish an unknown goal. Drake swiftly convinced Luffy that he was on his side when he left the Beasts Pirates by using what he had already learned about Luffy from Koby.
Drake consumed the Ryu Ryu no Mi, Model: Allosaurus, an Ancient Zoan-type Devil Fruit that enables him to change into an allosaurus at will and into a human-allosaurus hybrid. Drake's physical skills in close quarters are significantly improved because he is a carnivorous Zoan.
He also acquires advantageous physical traits, such as teeth that are very hard and sharp and jaws that are strong enough to rip through a Pacifista's stronger-than-steel body and cause it to bleed. His enormous reptilian tail, which can hit people with incredible force, is also a powerful weapon. He also develops razor-sharp claws on his feet, which improve his kicks.
Drake has also demonstrated his proficiency with Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki.
Drake is incredibly proficient at simultaneously using a sword and a four-bladed ax.
X Calibur: Drake attacks an adversary from above while swinging his ax and sword to the left and right. The name of the attack is a play on the fabled sword Excalibur from Arthurian legend, with the kanji indicating a pun: ("hunting ground") would ordinarily be read as Kariba, matching the Japanese pronunciation of "-calibur", with the preceding "X" being a play on Drake's name.
Drake's father was Barrels, and as a young Marine Officer, Drake aspired to be just like him. However, Barrels was reputed to have severely abused his son after becoming a pirate. Drake stuck by his father despite beginning to lose faith in him as he saw the man's prior virtues.
Drake escaped and abandoned Barrels and his men as Doflamingo used the Birdcage to attack them. Drake was seen accepting Doflamingo as his father's killer thirteen years later, although he insisted that he harbored no resentment.
Drake was a member of the Barrels Pirates 13 years ago. However, he was "always a no show", and when Doflamingo attacked, he chose to flee for his own life rather than rescuing anyone.
Drake wanted to join the Marines as a young boy, perhaps because of his father's previous association with them. Drake escaped the Barrels Pirates thirteen years ago, and the Marines saved him. He once enlisted in the Marines and rose to the rank of rear admiral, but as far as is known, he left the service to join the pirates.
He remains a Marine in secret, leading the SWORD special forces unit as its captain. Even if it means going through torture, he will choose death for the organization before confessing to the enemies, and he finally plans to rejoin the Marines in full.
Koby is one of the few people aware that Drake's return to piracy was a lie, and he is still connected to the Marines as the commanding commander of the SWORD unit. Therefore they have a trustworthy professional connection.
He also respects Koby's opinion of Luffy as a good-hearted pirate, as seen by Drake's desire to join Luffy's alliance after recalling Koby's praise for Luffy. Drake is convinced that working with the Straw Hat captain will give him the best chance of success in his objective to fight the Beasts Pirates.
Drake is devoted to the World Government while serving with the Marines. He tried his best to obey the government's instructions, but after noticing the inconsistencies in their policies, he began to doubt them. Drake noted he was worried about the government working with criminals and was so surprised that he lost his ability to reason.
Drake arrived in Onigashima and immediately engaged CP0 agents who knew of his role at SWORD. They tried to kill him, and Drake even joined forces with Apoo—whom he usually despises—to repel them.
Like he did for Corazon, Sengoku took care of Drake as well.
Drake appeared eager to meet Kaidou before the time skip because he had willingly provoked his subordinates in the New World to attract the Emperor's attention. As a sign of his allegiance, Drake put down an uprising headed by Caribou (who was assuming the identity of Gaburu) on an island connected to the Emperor, demolished Amigasa Village, and killed the five samurai guarding the settlement.
Drake supported the rebels while discreetly remaining a Marine and informing his superiors of Kaidou's activities outside of Wano. After realizing that he was the one who assisted Law in being released from prison during the Fire Festival, Queen and Who's-Who planned to kill him. His true allegiance remained a secret, but his actions were sufficient to turn him against the Beasts Pirates.
Scratchmen Apoo is a fellow member of the Worst Generation who Drake appears to despise and has been looking forward to crushing for personal reasons. Apoo has a similar contempt for Drake, as evidenced by his remarks regarding the latter's alliance with Luffy.
Drake openly expressed his mistrust of Apoo's plan when he later sought to force Drake into joining an alliance with him to overthrow the war's winner. They unwillingly came together as a temporary team to fight the agents after they were both attacked by members of the CP0.
At the Flower Capital, Drake and Hawkins collaborated at various points in the Wano Country. They both took part in Yasuie's execution as well as the crackdown on the revolt, both of which were planned by Orochi. Due to his role as a mole, Drake appeared to be considering the potential that Hawkins would leave the Beasts Pirates after being compelled to join them by Kaidou, but the Magician rejected the notion.
Hawkins, Who's-Who, and Queen all agreed to question the undercover Marine since they believed Drake was the most likely person to have freed Law from the Flower Capital's imprisonment. They started to hate one other after that.
After the Raid on Onigashima, both were severely hurt, and Hawkins went over to Drake and asked him if he was a Marine. Drake remained silent, and Hawkins continued to pass out after telling Drake that the man who had a one percent chance of surviving was him all along.
Back on Minion Island, Donquixote Doflamingo was the one who killed Drake's father and his men. Despite this, Drake never harbored resentment towards the Warlord since he no longer respected his father.
Drake was a member of the Beasts Pirates who actively opposed the Straw Hat Pirates throughout the Wano Country Arc. However, Drake was forced to work with Luffy and his companions to complete his mission after his cover was exposed during the Onigashima attack. He intended to reward Luffy for his confidence during the raid and welcome him into the alliance after it was finished.
Zoro had the greatest mistrust towards Drake of all the Straw Hats. However, Zoro agreed to work with Drake. He later commended Drake for keeping things together on the Live Floor and placing a bet on the alliance's victory.
Drake was one of two people sent to punish Sanji for what he had done to the Kyoshiro Family. Drake brought up how he had heard Sanji is from the Vinsmoke Family after recognizing Sanji as O-Soba Mask, much to the latter's annoyance.
