Baku Baku no Mi in One Piece

History

At some point in the past, Wapol consumed the Baku Baku no Mi (Munch-Munch) Devil Fruit.

Appearance

The Baku Baku no Mi is a purple plum-shaped fruit with a jagged design in the center that resembles a set of jaws. It has a green, curly stem on top with the usual Devil Fruit swirl patterns all over it.

According to Wapol, the fruit’s main strength is that the user gains the ability to stretch open their lips to huge proportions and consume massive things. It also strengthens their teeth and digestive system, allowing them to devour things that would otherwise be difficult or toxic to regular people, such as weapons or living creatures like humans. The user can then turn any portion of their body into whatever they had eaten, allowing them to manufacture offensive weapons or merge objects or creatures together to create new things.

While the consumed matter allows the user to provide a wide range of applications both in and out of battle, it also causes the user to be continuously hungry, as Wapol complains, and it also allows the user to eat an apparently endless amount of food without feeling stressed. “Chewy” foods, like rubber, are slightly difficult for the user to swallow. Also, the user can only use anything consumed within the previous 24 hours; anything consumed after that period is no longer usable. Aside from all this, the user suffers from the standard Devil Fruit flaws.

It has not been directly shown, but the Baku Baku no Mi user cannot consume Seastone because it requires actual contact with the substance, which would cancel out the user’s Devil Fruit skills.

Wapol has mostly used the fruit’s bestowed powers to let him gorge himself on various items. These items range from daggers to the homes of Wapol’s former subjects. As a result, Wapol can become a real annoyance to anyone around him, causing extensive property destruction only to satisfy his appetite.

Wapol can also use the fruit’s powers in battle, either by devouring his opponent whole or by using the fruit’s metamorphosis powers. He also survived an avalanche and saved his two henchmen by swallowing the snow and keeping them safe in his throat.

Wapol was able to come up with more helpful applications of the fruit’s powers and serve more productive reasons after being defeated by Luffy. He was able to make some toys to sell by using his Baku Baku Factory approach. In exchange, he was able to establish a new industry for him to rule over.

Wapol has demonstrated the following techniques:

Yukigesho (Snow-Covered)

Wapol hides himself in Drum Island’s snowy scenery and ambushes trespassers by leaping out with his fangs wide open, ready to consume said trespasser. Should this attack fail, he can also hide Chess and Kuromarimo as backup.

Baku Baku Shock (Chomp Chomp Food)

Wapol can transform an object or material into his body after eating it, such as converting his arm into a cannon. He originally used this to transform himself into a home with cannons for arms. So far, Wapol has turned into a gigantic form consisting of several weapons, a home with cannons for arms, a wooden form with a long branch for a nose and a tree emerging out its head, a form with a lamp for a head complete with a burning candle, and a park bench using this technique.

Wapol absorbs one “butter sauteed cannon”, one “cannon extra rare”, one “cannonball and gunpowder salad”, and one “grilled home” into his body and transforms into a house replete with doors, chimneys, and windows. His arms may also be converted into cannons, and the chimney can also be used as a cannon.

Wapol converts his tongue into a cannon and launches a cannonball at his opponent.
