Drum Island in One Piece

Drum Island has freezing temperatures and excessive amounts of snow throughout the year. The freezing cold can be felt even through the surrounding seas. There is even a river that cuts deep through the Island, where a waterfall of snow flows into. The ground is covered with thick snow which makes it really difficult for anyone who hasn't adapted to the place and the place is avalanche prone.

This country has a series of drum-shaped mountains that are known as Drum Rockies. The Drum Castle is located at the center of the island. They have a Drum Ropeway that functions as transportation between the Drum Castle and the rest of the Kingdom. The villages that are on this island are Bighorn, Cocoa Weed, Gyasta, and Robelle. People travel to different towns using animal-pulled sleds or steeds.

After Luffy defeated Wapol, the Drum Kingdom was then renamed the Sakura Kingdom to give tribute to Dr. Hiriluk. The kingdom now has pinkish snow that resembles the petals of Sakura trees. This happens due to the special red powder that was created by Hiriluk that was shot up in the air.

Previously, when the Sakura kingdom was Drum Kingdom, it was ruled by the royal family of Drum Island. Before Wapol came into power, Drum Island had a really kind ruler and the greeted doctors to have ever existed on the Grand Line. When the King died, his son Wapol came into power and the kingdom took a turn for the worst.

He appointed twenty of the best doctors for himself, while the rest of the doctors were killed. When the Blackbeard Pirates came to Drum Island, Wapol escaped in fear. Since Wapol left the Island, Drum Island was left without a ruler and Dr. Kureha started living in his castle.

When Wapol came back to take back his kingdom, the Straw Hats were also on the island looking for a doctor to help Nami. When Wapol tried to destroy Dr. Hiriluk’s flag which was on top of the Drum Castle, Luffy used his devil fruit powers and threw Wapol out of the kingdom.

Once Wapol was out of the kingdom for good, the people of Drum Island collectively decided to make Dalton the next ‘King’. After Dalton became the king, he renamed the Drum Kingdom to the Sakura Kingdom to have a new fresh start and to erase all of Wapol’s torture.

Another reason to rename the Kingdom to the Sakura Kingdom was in memory of Dr. Hiriluk and his dream of using sakura to cure all heart diseases. Later on, Ace is seen on Drum Island, where he had left a message for Luffy to meet him in ten days in Nanohana, which is in Alabasta.

The people who live on Drum Island are:

King Dalton

Dalton is the elected King of Drum Island. He used to be Wapol’s former Royal Guard. He is a brave warrior and a very compassionate man who deeply cares for the people of Drum Island. The people of Drum Island really trust him a lot.

King Wapol

King Wapol was the former King of Drum Island. He became a pirate after running away from Drum Island when Blackbeard and his crew attacked the island. After he got defeated by Luffy, he opened his own toy enterprise and married Kinderella.

Dr. Kureha

Dr. is an extremely elderly doctor who worked on Drum Island although a lot of people referred to her as a ‘witch’. She is Tony Tony Chopper’s adoptive mother and mentor. She is also the head of Ishhi-100.

Dr. Hiriluk

Dr. Hiriluk was known as a crazy doctor from Drum Island. He acted as a father figure for Tony Tony Chopper. He passed away after he drank one of his failed concoctions.

Tony Tony Chopper

Chopper is the reindeer of the series who ate the Hito Hito Devil fruit which grants him the power to transform into a human at will. He worked with Dr. Kureha and learned everything related to medicine. His dream is to become a doctor that can cure any disease.

The other people who live on the island are Wapol’s father, Prince Musshuru, Isshi-100, Chess, Kuromarimo, Robson, Negikuma Maria, Tamachibi, Tamachibi’c father, Julie and Rosario.

The different types of wildlife present on this island are:

Hiking Bear

The Hiking Bear is a giant white orthograde bear and it is known for its human interest in climbing mountains. They are harmless by nature and humans are supposed to bow down when they cross a hiking bear according to the mountain-climbing etiquette.

White Walkie

The White Walkie is a wooly hippo-looking animal with long, powerful legs. They are omnivorous and well-adapted to the extreme cold of Drum Island. Whenever there is an emergency, they stand upright and sprint at a high speed.

Lapahns

Lapahns are large, carnivorous, and Intelligent snow rabbits that are natives of the mountains of Drum Island. They are highly aggressive in nature and hunt in packs. They are regarded as the most dangerous animal on Drum Island.

Snow Birds

Snow Birds are small white birds that are capable of thriving in subzero temperatures, even as chicks.

Reindeers

Reindeers are a species of deer that live on Drum Island. They always travel in a herd and are willing to kill odd things on sight.
