The town mainly depended on the Sandora River for its water supply to thrive, but the river started to lose a lot of its power, taking over part of the river’s path and rendering the water unfit for crops or human consumption. The appearance of a pack of Kung-Fu Dugongs, a marine species of animal, close to the town’s ruins was an indication that the seawater had overtaken the rover’s section that ran through Erumalu.
The inhabitants of Erumalu had to rely on rain to survive without the river. However, due to the Crocodile-induced drought, Erumalu was unable to withstand the scarcity of water and was left behind.
Following Nefertari Vivi’s plan to get to Yuba so they could reason with Koza’s rebel army, the Straw Hat Pirates anchored close to Erumalu’s ruins from the Sandora River. At the riverbed, a Kung Fu Dugong attacked Usopp; after losing to Luffy, it became his apprentice. A short time later, Luffy had already tamed an entire pack of the dugongs; later in the story arc, they would help the Straw Hat Pirates.
Vivi began describing the condition in her country and the history of Erumalu. After learning that Crocodile’s plan will slowly destroy their friend’s nation, Luffy, Sanji, and Usopp let out some of their frustration on the wreckage of a demolished structure, with Luffy vowing to take down Baroque Works.
Erumula was located on the east of the Spiders Cafe, southeast of Yuba, and on the western bank of the Sandora River. It was not far from Suiren, another abandoned village. Right now, all that remains of Erumula is a collection of partially buried, collapsed houses, dead trees, and a few skulls scattered around the sand.
There used to be a canal that carried precipitation across the city, but it finally dried up due to the ongoing drought Mr. 0 and the Dance Powder induced. Vivi claimed that Erumalu’s plant life used to be considerably more abundant.
According to Miss All Sunday, this was where the Taph Cathedral was located.
Kappa claims that a sick friend of his lives in a nameless village close to Erumalu that is also experiencing the effects of the drought.
