The Horo Horo no Mi is a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that allows its user to produce ghosts, transforming them into a Ghost Human. It was consumed by Perona.
The fruit’s abilities were first demonstrated by one of Perona’s ghosts spying on the Straw Hat Pirates. But it was much later that the fruit was really named and its abilities shown in detail.

Fruit Debut | NA |
Usage Debut | One Piece Episode 337 |
Type | Paramecia |
Current User | Perona |
At some point in the past, the former commander of the Wild Zombies and Surprise Zombies of Thriller Bark: Perona, consumed the Horo Horo no Mi (Hollow-Hollow) Devil Fruit.
The fruit’s appearance is unknown.
The fruit’s main ability, as shown by Perona, is that it enables its owner to create ghosts known as Hollows that they can control. The size of these Hollows might vary based on the user’s preferences, but they all have the appearance of transparent, sheet-like beings with round, black eyes and enormous lips with a tongue that usually protrudes from them.
The Hollows have the ability to fly and are unaffected by physical harm. The most basic of these forms are the Bad Hollows; should one travel through another or vice versa, the recipient would quickly fall to their knees and have extremely negative feelings against themselves, occasionally to the point where they consider committing suicide.
The user can also create ghosts that are corporal and can attach onto their opponents, such as small round ghosts called Mini Hollows or giant round ghosts called Toku Hollows. Then, the user can direct these Hollows to detonate, damaging the target with shockwave explosions. The size of the ghost closely relates to the magnitude of the explosions; the bigger the ghost, the stronger the explosion.
The Negative Hollows are another tool Perona uses to gather information from various places. If Perona wishes to, she can build her Ghost Network, which she uses to obtain information about what is happening on Thriller Bark, by connecting her awareness to numerous Negative Hollows. Perona can also project her own “hollow” or spirit using this power; this spirit has all the same characteristics as Perona herself, including being intangible, impervious to physical harm, able to call forth ghosts, change size, fly, and be invisible.
After the time skip, Perona has the ability to use some of the abilities that were previously restricted to her astral projection, including fight, without really leaving her body.
When several of Perona’s Negative Hollows passed through Usopp, who was pessimistic about his own abilities, he was completely unaffected by them, despite the power of the Negative Hollows appearing to be impossible to overcome or resist no matter how hardened one’s spirit is. This proved that it cannot affect anyone who is pessimistic about themselves. In fact, when Perona attempted it on him a third time, using four ghosts as opposed to one, Usopp’s negativity caused their power to backfire on Perona’s Negative Hollows, causing them to collapse in negativity instead.
Although the shockwaves that Hollows send out when they explode can be massive, they can be stopped from doing any harm by using special techniques, such as Usopp’s Impact Dial. The user’s physical body must be left behind whenever she joins her consciousness to one of her Hollows, leaving it vulnerable to attack from an enemy. Additionally, the user is unable to harm somebody directly while in spirit form.
Other than these, the user is vulnerable to the standard Devil Fruit flaws.
Perona has used the fruit’s bestowed abilities for both fighting and intelligence gathering. She has used her Negative Ghosts to cripple enemies so that her allies can combat them with a clear edge. Additionally, in order to keep an eye on the activities taking place on Thriller Bark, she has used her ghosts in a complex information gathering and monitoring system known as the Ghost Network.
Perona can summon explosive ghosts of various sizes using her Devil Fruit abilities in addition to standard Negative Hollows, which she can use to harm her opponents directly. She can summon a ghost that resembles her identically and has the ability to alter shape, float in midair, and pass through solid objects. In reality, this ghost is an astral projection of Perona’s psyche, giving her the ability to fight enemies without having them directly assault her.
Perona has demonstrated the following techniques using her fruit’s abilities:
Perona can send out a ghost that can drain the will of anyone it comes into contact with, if they weren’t already particularly negative to begin with, making them very negative and depressed about themselves.
In order to drain their will, Perona can send four Negative Hollows at four different targets at once.
Perona creates mini ghosts which are the size of her palm and attaches them to her opponent.
Perona uses her Mini Hollows to attack opponents, and with the snap of her fingers, she can make them explode. A single explosive can create a substantial crater in a stone wall.
Perona summons a much larger version of her Mini Hollows and uses it to bite her enemy to attach it to them. These spirits seem to have some physicality.
When Perona snaps her fingers, her Toku Hollow causes a massive explosion.
Perona produces three Negative Hollows and a Toku Hollow, which her servants claim to be her strongest combination.
The spirit of Perona leaves her body. She is able to create other ghosts while in this form, and she is also intangible, immune to injury, and able to fly. While this makes her body unconscious and immobile, making her open to attacks, it also allows her to attack her opponent without them being able to defend themselves. Perona must therefore abandon her physical form before the battle to somewhere safe and far from the enemies.
This is a Non-Canon Technique in which Perona uses Negative Hollows to depress her opponents before using a Toku Hollow to blow them all apart. It takes one special gauge to execute it and this is one of Perona's special moves.
This is a Non-Canon Technique in which Perona summons a massive astral projection of her upper torso that rises from the earth and forms a massive Toku Hollow that erupts in a massive explosion on all opponents in its vicinity. It is one of Perona’s special moves that calls for the use of two unique gauges.
