How much filler is in One Piece?

One Piece is a Japanese shonen manga series written and illustrated by Eiichiro Oda. Since its debut in July 1997, it has never looked back. Soon after its release, One Piece rose to popularity among manga readers. Its utter market dominance impacted the sales of other series. With its enormous success, it became one of the Big Three in its community and received an anime adaptation from Toei Animation. On October 20, 1999, Fuji TV broadcasted the show's debut episode.

One Piece is one of the longest-running anime series of all time. The fans recently celebrated the release of its 1000th episode. As of August 2022, One Piece has released 1030+ episodes.

As is the case with most long-running anime series, One Piece also has some filler episodes and filler arcs in between canon arcs to keep the fans entertained. Although the anime is most enjoyable and advised to watch in its entirety, these filler arcs are non-canon, thus have no impact on the story of the series and fans could skip them if they wanted to.

Interestingly, despite its massive number of episodes, One Piece contains only 10% filler episodes which is low compared to other long-running anime series. The filler arcs broadcasted so far are mentioned below:

  1. Episodes 56-61: Warship Island arc
  2. Episodes 131-135: Post-Alabasta arc
  3. Episodes 136-138: Goat Island arc
  4. Episodes 139-143: Ruluka Island arc
  5. Episodes 196-206: G8 arc
  6. Episodes 220-224: Ocean’s Dream arc
  7. Episodes 225 and 226: Foxy’s return arc
  8. Episodes 326-335: Ice Hunter arc
  9. Episodes 382-384: Spa Island arc
  10. Episodes 426-429: Little East Blue arc
  11. Episodes 575-578: Z’s Ambition arc
  12. Episodes 626-628: Caesar’s Retrieval arc
  13. Episodes 747-750: Silver Mine arc
  14. Episodes 780-782: Marine Rookie arc
  15. Episodes 895-896: Cidre Guild arc

Although fans have the option to skip these if they feel like it, it is advised to watch the show in its entirety and enjoy the journey. Filler episodes filled with humor can give the fans a chance to relax after an action-filled story arc.
