Jonathan’s History

One night, while fishing, Jonathan noticed the Going Merry falling from the sky into G-8. The Marines, led by Jonathan, investigated the ship, finding it deserted. Witnesses reported strange occurrences, fueling the belief that it was a ghost ship. Jonathan, however, suspected otherwise.

Upon discovering clues left by the Straw Hats, Jonathan deduced that the ship recently visited Jaya. Despite this, he kept the ghost ship rumor to avoid causing panic. Jonathan ordered the fortification of defenses and instructed officers to search for potential gathering spots, anticipating that pirates might disguise themselves as Marines to avoid getting caught.

Jonathan captured Zoro and interrogated him, then went to the mess hall for a meal. While eating, he encountered Luffy and Sanji posing as chefs. Jonathan and his wife, Jessica, tried to capture them but failed due to Marine interference. Later, Jonathan learned about a long-nosed man, Usopp, suspected to be the inspector sent by Marine Headquarters. He didn't immediately imprison him but did so when the real inspector, Shepherd, arrived. However, Jonathan suspected Shepherd wasn't genuine and figured out the true identity of the Straw Hat pirates.

To trap Luffy, Jonathan set an ambush in the brig, but the pirates escaped. Realizing normal tactics wouldn't work, Jonathan decided to ambush the Straw Hats at the dock where their ship, the Going Merry, was kept to prevent further damage. Jonathan ordered an ambush at the dock, but his men needed time to get there. Predicting the Straw Hats would use the Straw Bridge, he reluctantly had Marines from Unit 55 engage them, causing part of the bridge to be destroyed by Luffy. This delay allowed Jonathan's men to prepare at the dock.

Despite the dock ambush going wrong, Jonathan had foreseen it. He confiscated the Straw Hats' gold while the Going Merry was in Marine possession. Anticipating the pirates wouldn't leave their gold, he guessed they were still in the base. When reports confirmed their undetected escape, Jonathan figured they were hiding in an abandoned dock and decided to let them make the first move.

Jonathan anticipated the Straw Hats searching for their gold in Navarone's vault. He moved the gold to his room and set up an ambush, but Inspector Shepherd's incompetence foiled the plan. Luffy and Nami infiltrated Jonathan's room, escaping with the gold.

Unworried, Jonathan activated his last resort strategy, stopping the Straw Hats in the shallows when the water subsided at 9 o'clock pm. He offered an ultimatum, promising only Luffy and Zoro would be sent to headquarters. Though the Straw Hats were trapped, Jonathan had doubts as the path they used to enter the base was still open.

Jonathan's predictions proved true as the Straw Hats escaped G-8 using a Balloon Octopus and Dials. Despite the Marines' failure to capture them, Jonathan reassured his wife that their job was fulfilled. He seized the opportunity to showcase Navarone's capabilities to the rest of the Marines, emphasizing the need to address pirates like the Straw Hats. The incident led to unity among the people of Navarone.

Amazon Lily Arc

Jonathan reappeared in the anime during a gathering of Marines in Marineford, preparing for the war against the Whitebeard Pirates. However, he was not seen during the actual war.

Jonathan’s Personality

Jonathan, despite being a Vice Admiral, is laid-back and cares deeply for his base and subordinates. He enjoys fishing and is kept in check by his wife Jessica. He's strategic, with a talent for chess, and is analytical, predicting enemy movements.

After the Straw Hats escaped, he revealed he didn't aim to capture them but saw their presence as a way to unite his soldiers and prove G-8's importance.

Jonathan’s Appearance

Jonathan has orange-red hair, brown eyebrows, and a mustache. While he's the base commander, he usually dresses casually. In uniform, he wears a Marine overcoat with medals and opts for a feathered tricorne instead of the standard Marine cap.

Jonathan’s Abilities

As a Marine vice admiral, Jonathan commands the G-8 base and its Marines. He's skilled in strategy, preferring to outsmart enemies rather than confront them directly.
