The Moon in One Piece

The Moon has been constant in the series, it had been seen in various instances, like the fight between Zoro and Kuina, when Kuro becomes murderous when he sees the moon, inside Ohara’s library, the Tree of Knowledge, when the members of the mink tribe transform into their Suling form when the full moon is visible, etc.

Birka is known for its three races that lived on the moon and helped in creating the Automata. When the resources on the moon were fully exploited, the Birkans, along with the Shandorians and Skypiens, left the moon and the Automata behind. They all left their lives behind on Birka to start a new beginning on the ‘Blue Star’.

After everyone left the Moon and started to forget their origins, they believed that it was a place of dreams, which is a folktale among the Birkans. After Enel studied the history within the Upper Yard, it came to be known that the moon is the legendary land that had sacred dirt known as ‘Vearth’. This made him start the construction of Ark Maxim.

The Moon had a city with an underground basement within the moon’s surface. It has had no inhabitants for a very long time and the place is in ruins. Despite being in ruins, the city still has an advanced look with the automata in capsules with inactive electric generators and machinery.

After Enel was born and raised in Birka, he collected two hundred Jet Dials from Birka. After a few years, he himself destroyed his homeland with the help of his devil fruit abilities. He gathered all his followers and left for Skypiea and made himself a God. After his defeat in his fight against Luffy, Enel arrived on the moon and became its new ruler. He gained the loyalty of the automata as he had rescued them. After reading the murals on the walls, he recharged the ancient automata and decided to settle on the Moon itself.

Enel was the former God of Skypiea and he was responsible for destroying his hometown Birka. He is the main antagonist of the Skypiea Arc. After his defeat, Enel arrived on the moon and became its new ruler.
