Ryuma makes fun of Zoro's plan to take the Shusui sword from him in Hogback's lab as the episode begins. Zoro explains that he has three swords on him, one of which is broken, and gets ready to battle with just two of them. Zoro's challenge excites Ryuma, who deflects his assault. Then Ryuma uses Aubade Coup Droit, launching airborne sword shots. Given that the lab was likely to collapse, it appears to be a draw.
Brook points out that Ryuma once lived as a fearsome samurai. Then Ryuma uses Prelude Au Fer to shatter Zoro's blade with a single thrust. Zoro goes on the offensive and strikes back with a Flash, but it is blocked. He follows up with a Demon Magma Bear assault, but it is likewise blocked. The zombie samurai then executes a Gavotte Bond en Avant, unleashing a powerful thrust while Zoro uses a Two Sword: Rashomon and dashes past his Ryuma. Ryuma takes the blow, and the lab's structure begins to collapse.
While Zoro and Ryuma continue to battle, Franky tries to get Brook to safety. Even with limited movement, the zombie Ryuma and Zoro on the rooftop seem to be on equal footing. Zoro is concerned that if the battle continues for much longer, his swords might shatter.
As a section of the roof is suddenly blasted, the samurai uses an Arrow Notch Slash on Zoro just as he is about to land a Soaring Dragon, severely hurting him while Ryuma is suddenly set ablaze. Ryuma acknowledges defeat with Zoro lying on the ground. Given that the sword has had many owners over the years, he gives Shusui to Zoro. Zoro hopes they could have met when Ryuma was still alive. Brook's shadow returns to its original owner just then, allowing him to wander around in broad daylight.
Meanwhile, Usopp goes down a hallway, hoping to tell his buddies that he defeated Perona and plans to brag about it. Hildon explains to a group of armored zombies that the slain zombies were meant to hold Oars captive. The zombie that resembles a bat commands a retreat just as Oars enters the scene. The enormous zombie nevertheless tries to charge the warrior zombies, but Oars destroys the generals. Moria brags about his plan to become King of the Pirates without even having to raise a finger, having his lackeys do all the work for him. Luffy is now starting to become exhausted from fighting Moria's shadow, Doppelman. As the Doppleman slams Luffy around, Moria mentions the impending arrival of his trump card as a warning.
Zoro emerges victorious in his battle against Ryuma and receives the legendary black blade, Shusui, from the samurai.
