Calm Belt in One Piece

The Grand Line is bordered on the north and south by the Calm Belts, two oceanic regions in the One Piece series.

It is impossible for non-self-propelled ships to pass through the Calm Belts since they are always absolutely calm, never having any winds or ocean currents flowing, and are therefore very effective barriers for those attempting to reach the Grand Line. The largest Sea Kings in the world have their largest nests here.

The Seastone liner at the bottom of the Marines' ships allows them to travel safely through the Calm Belts. This appears to keep the Sea Kings from noticing the ship passing overhead.

Calm Belt doesn’t have many islands unlike the rest of the ocean areas of North, South, East, and West Blues.

Amazon Lily

One of the few places that is known to be inside one of the Calm Belts is the island of Amazon Lily. The island has historically been protected from invaders by its location within a Calm Belt. The only person known to have successfully swam to Amazon Lily without much hindrance from the Sea Kings is Silvers Rayleigh.

Rusukaina

Northwest of Amazon Lily in the Calm Belt is the island of Rusukaina.

Impel Down

In the center of the Calm Belt, on the seafloor, is the Great Prison, Impel Down. It is nearly impossible to enter or exit due to the strict security and Sea Kings.

The real-world horse latitudes, or the 30° latitudes encircling the equator where historically weak winds caused ships to become trapped, may serve as the inspiration for the Calm Belts.
