Tsunagoro has a notable history in the world of One Piece. He was once the yakuza boss of the Hakumai region in Wano Country. However, when the Beasts Pirates took control of Wano, he opposed their rule and ended up imprisoned in the Udon Prisoner Mine, where he was forced to work in the Iron Factory.
During his time in Udon, Tsunagoro witnessed the chaos caused by O-Lin (also known as Big Mom) when she rampaged through the prison. This event was a part of the larger story arc involving Monkey D. Luffy leading a rebellion within the prison.
Following Luffy's successful rebellion and the subsequent release of prisoners, Tsunagoro and the other yakuza bosses in Udon paid their respects to Hyogoro. There was a confrontation between Luffy and the bosses due to Luffy's casual attitude, but Hyogoro intervened to prevent any conflict.
Tsunagoro and the other yakuza bosses left Udon to gather their followers from different parts of Wano, contributing to the growing rebellion against the Beasts Pirates.
As the raid on Onigashima began, Tsunagoro fought alongside Hyogoro on the Live Floor. The rebels launched a surprise attack on Kaido, and an all-out war ensued between the rebels and the Beasts Pirates.
During this time, Tsunagoro and his fellow yakuza bosses also played a role in guarding Tony Tony Chopper, who was working to mass-produce an antidote for the Ice Oni virus. They volunteered for this task to ensure the safety of their allies.
Omasa, one of their comrades, succumbed to the virus and requested Tsunagoro to end his life, but Chopper successfully produced the antidote, saving all the infected individuals, including Omasa.
Tsunagoro, as a yakuza boss, exudes an aura of authority and respect among his followers from Hakumai. He is portrayed as a figure who commands loyalty and admiration from those around him, including other yakuza bosses of his era.
Tsunagoro has deep respect for Hyogoro. He not only holds Hyogoro in high regard but is also willing to defend and protect him. Tsunagoro's loyalty to Hyogoro is evident in how he threatens anyone who dares to offend or disrespect the elder.
Tsunagoro is a slender man with a long face and light-colored hair. His hairstyle is characterized by a signature double chonmage, which is a traditional Japanese hairstyle often associated with samurai or yakuza figures. In this style, his hair is pulled up into two knots or tufts, while the rest of his hair falls down his face, covering his right eye.
He has a perpetually sinister grin, which adds to his intimidating presence. Additionally, he is often seen with a twig or piece of straw in his mouth, further emphasizing his tough and yakuza-like image.
Tsunagoro possesses a certain level of physical strength, as demonstrated when he was able to hold down a struggling Luffy while the latter was being punished for his rudeness.
In combat, Tsunagoro primarily relies on a pair of pistols, similar to the fighting style of Izou. Additionally, he has been shown wielding a knife while attempting to dismember Monkey D. Luffy and a katana when about to execute Omasa, although he hasn't employed these weapons for actual combat purposes as of yet.
In Hyogoro's monologue about the yakuza bosses imprisoned in Udon, Tsunagoro is the only one whose silhouette matches his actual appearance, while the rest had their appearances altered.
