Sumire Kakei’s Background

Following the demise of Danzo Shimura, the clandestine organization known as Root was exposed to the public, revealing the treacherous deeds they had committed. As a result, all the members associated with this notorious group were shunned by the village, including the family of Sumire. This social banishment had a devastating impact on Sumire's mother, who fell gravely ill and eventually succumbed to the sickness. The tragedy left an indelible mark on Sumire's psyche as she had cherished spending time with her mother, particularly the moments when she would tenderly comb her mother's hair. Over time, the weight of her mother's loss became so overwhelming that Sumire could scarcely remember the sound of her mother's voice, causing her deep emotional distress.

Sumire's father, Tanuki Shigaraki, was an unwavering loyalist of Danzo and he meticulously trained his daughter from a young age, imparting his values and ideals upon her. Tanuki instilled in Sumire a burning desire for vengeance against those who had wronged Root. As a culmination of his teachings, Tanuki bestowed upon Sumire the powerful tool of Gozu Tennō. However, the fates were unkind to Sumire, as she lost both her parents, leaving her an orphan with an overwhelming sense of purposelessness. In order to protect herself and lay low, Sumire assumed a new identity, that of "Sumire Kakei". She was convinced that it was essential to bide her time and carefully craft a plausible backstory before exacting her father's grand plan.

Despite her tumultuous past, Sumire continued to strive for excellence and earned the distinction of becoming the representative of her Ninja Academy class. It was during this time that she began to devote herself to nurturing the development of Nue, a yokai (a supernatural creature) created by the Root. With her unwavering determination and her newfound purpose, Sumire began to channel her energies toward fulfilling her ultimate goal of avenging her family and the Root organization.

Academy Entrance Arc

On the day of the entrance ceremony, the students of the Academy were frantically searching for Boruto Uzumaki, who was conspicuously absent. Suddenly, Boruto made a dramatic entrance, crashing a train into the Hokage Monument, leaving Sumire utterly astonished at his audacity. The aftermath of the incident required the attention of the responsible and efficient Shikamaru Nara, who ordered the immediate evacuation of the area to commence clean-up operations.

In the following days, tensions began to rise as Inojin Yamanaka expressed his disapproval of Boruto's actions. Sumire, being the conscientious class representative, tried to pacify the situation and diffuse the mounting hostility. The class then had the opportunity to watch Boruto display his prowess in battle against Iwabee Yuino. Sumire was struck by how fervently Boruto seemed to be striving to carve out his own legacy, beyond his ties to the Seventh Hokage, Naruto Uzumaki.

As the days progressed, Sumire was heartened to see Boruto gradually becoming more cordial with his classmates. However, Chocho Akimichi took notice of Sumire's interest in Boruto and teasingly implied that Sumire has a crush on him. Sumire became embarrassed and denied the notion, insisting that her concern for Boruto is solely from her responsibilities as a class representative.

Several weeks later, as their training in shuriken jutsu began, Sumire was feeling frustrated as she struggled to make progress. Meanwhile, Boruto's recklessness caused some damage to school property. In response, Shino Aburame tasked Boruto and several other students with repairing the Hokage Rock, with Sumire being designated as the supervisor.

As tensions began to simmer between the boys and girls of the class, Shino decided to settle the issue with a race to capture the flag atop the Academy. Despite the boys' defeat, the girls extended an olive branch and made amends with their classmates.

However, Sumire soon found herself the victim of a disturbing stalking incident. Eventually, she and her friends discovered that the culprit was Magire Kakuremino, a fellow student. When Magire awkwardly asked Sumire out, she politely declined. The following day, Sumire was horrified to find creepy messages left for her. Matters escalated when Magire kidnapped her, leading to a tense confrontation. Chocho ultimately diffused the situation, advising Magire that his indecisive behavior was unlikely to win over anyone. Accepting his faults, Magire was rejected by Sumire and left to reflect on his misguided actions.

Shino Aburame assigned the class to split into groups of three and work at different non-shinobi workplaces to gain a better understanding of non-shinobi life. Sumire, along with her teammates Wasabi Izuno and Namida Suzumeno, decided to work at the Water Purification Plant. On the second day, Sumire unleashed Nue, pretending to be a victim, and was ultimately "saved" by the Hokage, who took her and her injured classmates to the hospital.

Her friends and teacher soon came to check on her, but Sumire realized that her identity had been discovered. She decided to leave the hospital, feigning injuries, and complete her mission. However, she was ambushed by Sai Yamanaka and his team. Though initially subdued, she summoned Nue to rampage the village. As she slipped away, Mitsuki confronted her and stated his mission to kill her. They began fighting, but Boruto arrived, demanding answers.

Sumire revealed that her entire existence had always been for revenge. As Boruto intervened in another clash between his two friends, his eye began to act wildly. Nue then teleported above the children, and Sumire offered herself as the necessary chakra to complete its development. Nue grabbed her, and Boruto and Mitsuki followed them into Nue's pocket dimension. Together, they were able to subdue the beast.

Before Mitsuki could destroy it, Sumire appeared to defend it. Boruto stepped in, insisting that her identity as Class Rep was the real her. Torn between all she knew, Sumire ordered Nue to take her chakra and finish her father's plan, but Nue instead affectionately snuggled against her. Boruto noted that since Sumire had raised Nue, it viewed her as a parent.

As Boruto's encouragement continued to strengthen her, Sumire finally found the courage to release her pent-up anger, causing the Gozu Tennō's power to weaken and the dimension to begin crumbling around them. Sumire initially believed it was her fate to perish in the dimension, but the memory of her mother's voice and desire for her happiness resurfaced, along with Boruto's aid, giving her the strength to fight on. With the help of Nue, the three students were able to escape the dimension, but the beast was left behind due to the falling debris.

Upon their return to the normal dimension, Sumire turned herself in and was held in a detention cell while her fate was determined. However, she received leniency as there were no casualties. Shino, who visited Sumire in her cell, assured her that he held no grudges against her and was grateful for the experience as it allowed him to grow as a teacher. He offered his support to help her rebuild her life, reminding her that she was no longer an instrument of her father's will.

Despite her pardon, Sumire was hesitant to return to the Academy, fearing the reaction of her classmates. However, upon her return, she was overjoyed to find that her classmates were genuinely happy to see her. Although the warm welcome brought mixed feelings to Sumire, seeing Boruto silently approve of her return caused her to cry tears of joy, grateful to be back to the life of happiness at the Academy. It was only later that she noticed a small piece of Nue's essence remaining on her left palm, bringing a smile to her face.

School Trip Arc

In the anime, the Seventh Hokage sought to strengthen relationships between villages and commemorate the end of the warring era by organizing an official class trip to Kirigakure, also known as the Village Hidden in the Mist. Upon arrival, the class was greeted by the Mizukage's appointed tour guide, Kagura Karatachi. Under his guidance, they explored the village and learned about its history and culture. The highlight of their visit was meeting the Sixth Mizukage, Chojuro, who warmly welcomed them to Kirigakure.

However, their trip took a turn when a group of delinquents, led by Tsurushi Hachiya, confronted them and openly expressed their hostility towards outsiders. The situation escalated quickly, and Kagura intervened in an attempt to stop the fight. Unfortunately, his hand was cut during the scuffle, prompting Sumire to provide first aid.

Despite the incident, the class was able to continue their tour and appreciate the beauty of Kirigakure. As their field trip drew to a close, Sumire and her classmates bid farewell to the village and boarded a cruise ship back to their home in Konohagakure.

Graduation Exams Arc

As the Genin Exams drew closer in the anime, Boruto began to worry that his group of friends was drifting apart. In an attempt to bring them closer, he invited everyone on a camping trip to catch the renowned Eternal Carp. The group set out, and Sumire expressed her happiness at being friends with such wonderful people.

After some time, they finally managed to ensnare one of the massive fishes. But it was too much for them to handle alone, so Sumire summoned Nue to lend a hand. As it turned out, the creature had begun to regain its previous form and power. The miniaturized Nue used its chakra to strengthen Boruto's fishing pole, which led to the successful capture of the fish.

Once they had returned to their campsite, they cooked and ate the fish together, enjoying their success and camaraderie. As the exams approached, Sumire and her friends were able to easily pass the written test by taking up Shino's subtle offer to steal the test answers. With their teamwork and ingenuity, they were ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

The final and practical exam of the Genin Exams took place at a training field where the entire class was set up to face their Academy teachers and the Sixth Hokage, Kakashi Hatake. The test lasted for 24 hours, during which the teachers would evaluate the student's progress, and the real test was against Kakashi. The rules were simple: the first student to take the single bell attached to Kakashi's hip would pass.

As the test began, Sumire and Sarada faced Konohamaru Sarutobi, but they were quickly defeated. The students regrouped and came up with a plan to take down the shinobi. Nue provided earbuds to the students, and Namida used her sound waves to knock out Anko Mitarashi. Then, all the students transformed into Boruto and went against Kakashi. They managed to restrain him, allowing Boruto to try to take the bell.

Although they failed to accomplish the task within the time limit, Kakashi passed the class, making Sumire a genin. She was later placed on Team 15, led by Hanabi Hyuga, alongside Wasabi and Namida. This marked the beginning of Sumire's journey as a shinobi, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead.

Byakuya Gang Arc

In the anime, as the Byakuya Gang continued to wreak havoc in Konohagakure, Team 15 was assigned to help put an end to their thefts. However, the genin were strictly instructed not to engage the group without the assistance of a chūnin or higher-ranked shinobi. Despite this, Sumire and Wasabi found themselves face-to-face with the thieves while on patrol, with Namida missing from their team. Caught off guard, the thieves launched an attack, but the two genin were saved by the timely intervention of Temari.

Temari helped drive the criminals away, and Sumire and Wasabi expressed their gratitude for her assistance. The situation worsened when the villagers supporting the Byakuya Gang started to protest against companies that were allegedly involved in corrupt actions. Along with her fellow ninja, Sumire worked tirelessly to maintain peace and order in the village. They struggled to keep the protestors from causing damage and violence, but the situation was ultimately diffused thanks to the intervention of Naruto himself.

Konoha Shinden: Steam Ninja Scrolls

In the manga, Sumire and her team had been given a mission to find a missing cat that had gone astray within the village.

Versus Momoshiki Arc

In the anime, Sumire's guilt over her past actions with Nue continued to weigh heavily on her, even two weeks after the incident. However, she was soon given a new mission by her teacher Hanabi: to capture all of the escaped animals from Fire Park. Hanabi assigned Sumire and her teammates to handle the smaller animals on their own, which proved to be a challenging task.

During the mission, a heated argument broke out between Wasabi and Namida, causing Namida to run away. When they heard her scream, Sumire and Wasabi rushed to her aid and found her being attacked by a massive white-maned wolf. Despite their differences, the three genin worked together to take down the beast, displaying impressive teamwork and cooperation.

After the successful mission, the tension between Wasabi and Namida dissipated as they made up with each other. Encouraged by their reconciliation, Sumire found the courage to confess to her teammates that she was responsible for the Nue incident. To her relief, Wasabi and Namida already knew and forgave her. Hanabi, who had been observing everything, appeared and congratulated the team on their exemplary teamwork and cooperation.

After receiving permission from Hanabi to participate in the Chūnin Exams, Sumire and her team rushed to the entrance ceremony to begin their journey. Eager to avoid elimination, they quickly made their way to the first exam venue where they were presented with a true or false question. Unfortunately, all the competitors fell into a pit filled with ink, but Sumire managed to save her team by summoning Nue. With their teamwork and quick thinking, Team 15 passed the first round.

Three days later, the team competed in a game of capturing the flag against a Kumogakure (Hidden Cloud Village) team. Sumire, Wasabi, and Namida faced off against Yurui but ultimately failed when Toroi acquired their flag. Despite the setback, they continued to support their fellow competitors in the final round of the exams. They cheered on Boruto when he emerged victorious, but were later disappointed to learn that he had cheated using a banned ninja tool, the Kote, resulting in his disqualification.

After the defeat of the Ōtsutsuki and things began to return to normal, Sumire and her teammates watched Boruto's interview at the Lightning Burger, signifying the end of the Chūnin Exams.

Mitsuki's Disappearance Arc

In the anime, Boruto approached Sumire and her team inquiring about Mitsuki's whereabouts, to which they replied that they had not seen him. Later, while eavesdropping on the Hokage's conversation, Sumire and her friends learned that Team 7 was in grave danger at Iwagakure, the Hidden Stone Village. Being steadfast in their determination to help their friends, the genin requested to join the Hokage on the mission. Despite Naruto's initial reluctance to put them in harm's way, the group refused to back down and asserted that they would go with or without his approval.

Impressed by their loyalty and bravery, Naruto eventually gave them permission to accompany him. When they arrived at Iwa, however, the battle was already over, and Team 7 was safe and unharmed, much to Sumire and her team's relief.

Sadly, the victory came at a high cost—the Third Tsuchikage, Onoki made the ultimate sacrifice to protect his village. Although the Konoha-nin wished to attend the funeral to pay their respects, Naruto sent them all back to Konohagakure, realizing the dangers that could arise from their prolonged stay in Iwagakure.

After Namida's destructive technique began to cause harm to her allies and clients, she felt responsible to create a new technique that would be more effective and safe to use. However, Hanabi's strict training regime left Namida feeling overwhelmed and uncertain of her abilities. In an effort to support their friend, Sumire, and Wasabi volunteered to assist with Namida's training. Their dedication paid off as Namida began to show significant progress in her new technique.

Despite their efforts, the team encountered a group of bandits whose abilities made Namida's new technique ineffective. The bandits' leader even managed to steal a valuable document from their client, leading Namida to feel helpless and dejected about her progress. However, Sumire and Wasabi reminded Namida of her growth and progress, highlighting her ability to resist tears and remain determined. Inspired by their words, Namida used her chakra control to refine her scream technique into a long-range concussive blast, which allowed her to defeat the bandit leader without causing harm to anyone else. The team celebrated their success and Namida's growth as a ninja.

Jugo Arc

In the anime, Team 7 and Team 15 were given a joint mission led by Konohamaru, as Hanabi had been assigned elsewhere. Their task was to investigate the mysterious attacks on the village that were suspected to be caused by the local wildlife. To assist them in their mission, they were joined by Tosaka, an ornithologist who had expertise in dealing with birds. Upon reaching the location, the team was immediately ambushed by strange-looking birds that appeared to have been mutated in some way. In the chaos that ensued, Boruto got separated from the team and was attacked by Jugo, but Sumire came to his rescue by summoning Nue.

Upon reaching the village, the team discovered that those who were attacked by the mutated birds quickly fell ill and were covered in Cursed Seals. The villagers also discovered an unconscious Jūgo, whom Sarada and Mitsuki recognized. When Jūgo regained consciousness, one of the sick villagers went on a feral rampage and was drawn to him. However, Jūgo was able to subdue the villager before retreating into the forest.

Konohamaru suspected that Orochimaru might be involved in the matter, and as such, he split the teams up to investigate. He warned everyone not to engage with Orochimaru or Jūgo alone and instructed the Team 15 genin to stay together.

After Jūgo drained Konohamaru's chakra and injured him, Sumire and her friends helped him track Team 7. Eventually, they found Jūgo passed out with an injection device in his hand. When another cursed bird attacked them, Jūgo awoke and used his powers to cure it of its cursed seal before leaving. Back at the village, Konohamaru instructed Team 15 to return to Konoha to report and request backup. However, while on their way, they were ambushed by Momo and Sasami, who were testing their cursed seal device. The attackers quickly defeated Namida and Wasabi and infected them with cursed seals. In the midst of the chaos, Nue fought off the attackers and carried Sumire away to safety.

After Sumire regained consciousness, she began searching for her friends with the help of Nue. Soon after, they encountered Suigetsu Hōzuki and Karin Uzumaki. However, Nue sensed Suigetsu's malicious intentions and attacked him. Suigetsu swiftly dealt with them, leaving Sumire alone. Eventually, she awoke in the presence of her fellow Konoha genin and the Otogakure (Hidden Sound Village) ninjas. She explained to everyone about the cursed seal devices used by her attackers and the outbreak in the village. It became clear that the Suigetsu and Karin were also looking for Jūgo to bring him home, who had been apprehended by the Land of Rivers' researchers. Suspecting that the researchers were behind the outbreak, the group found a common goal and decided to work together to stop them.

In the midst of a plan to draw Momo and Sasami out of the enemy base, Sumire managed to sneak inside and find her teammates. She informed them about the antidote and quickly administered it to Namida and Wasabi. As the three attempted to escape, Momo intercepted them. Despite putting up a brief fight against him, Sumire was eventually forced to summon Nue to protect her friends. Even with Namida and Wasabi joining forces with her, Momo's cursed seal proved to be too powerful for them to overcome.

Realizing that only Nue's full power would be sufficient to defeat Momo, Sumire reluctantly agreed to let her teammates contribute their chakra to allow Nue to transform into its larger form. With Nue in its transformed state, it and Sumire were finally able to destroy Momo's cursed seal collar and defeat him. Though Nue was prepared to absorb Momo's chakra and end him, Sumire was able to convince it to show mercy and spare him.

Team 15 was tasked with helping Karin and Sarada find and contain the infected birds before they could migrate and spread the curse. However, they struggled to locate them, and Karin suggested killing them all as a last resort. Sumire called forth Nue to aid Boruto, but Jūgo quickly defeated the creature, leading Sumire to intervene, although Boruto convinced her to stand down. Boruto then shared his plan to revert Jūgo's transformation, which succeeded with the help of Mitsuki, Konohamaru, and Suigetsu.

Suigetsu used the serum to cure the infection and merged with the lake to rain it over the birds, purifying them. After the mission, Sumire revealed to her teammates that she was inspired by Boruto's drive to become who he wants to be and decided to join the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team to find a better way to synergize with Nue. She requested that they keep this a secret as she planned to inform their friends herself.

In due course, Sumire's transfer was made official, and she met her replacement for Team 15, Tsubaki Kurogane, a samurai student from the Land of Iron. Her friends threw her a farewell party to bid her farewell.

Ao Arc

In the manga, Sumire chose to forego the Chūnin Exams and instead joined the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team, quickly rising to become one of their top workers. One day, she was pleasantly surprised to see her former teammates from Team Konohamaru guarding Katasuke Tōno as he returned from a field test. Sumire happily served them tea and caught up with them, expressing her joy in working alongside Katasuke.

She then witnessed Boruto and his team testing out new ninja tech. Later on, as Boruto's team prepared to leave, Sumire asked Sarada if she had any romantic feelings for Boruto, but Sarada denied it. Sumire then revealed that she herself had feelings for Boruto, which left Sarada surprised. As Boruto's team bid their goodbyes, Sumire waved them off with a happy smile.

Kawaki Arc

In the anime, Team 7 was tasked with bringing a young man named Kawaki, who was a valuable asset to the Kara organization, to the institute for his safety. Kawaki's loyalty was uncertain, so he was detained until the Hokage could interrogate him. Sumire was assigned to care for the boy, but she was met with hostility and aggression. Despite her attempts to calm him down and explain the situation, Kawaki remained uncooperative.

Later, Kawaki managed to obtain a Shinobi Gauntlet and used it to escape, thanks to Sumire mistakenly revealing their location. Realizing her mistake, Sumire pursued him in an effort to bring him back. When she caught up to him and tried to subdue him, he struck her with the Gauntlet and knocked her out. As a result, Nue became enraged and attacked Kawaki, despite Sumire's protests. In the end, Kawaki's restraints were broken, and he fled, calling Sumire a monster like himself. Despite the hurtful words, Sumire decided to chase after Kawaki with Nue.

After tracking Kawaki's blood trail, Sumire managed to find him in a village where he was protecting a stray dog from a meat vendor. The vendor had accused the dog of stealing from him. Without hesitation, Sumire rushed to treat the dog, showing her compassionate nature. She then tried to connect with Kawaki by sharing her own experience of being abused by her family and how she overcame it. Despite her efforts, Kawaki still remained untrusting and attacked her when she offered him a syringe for nourishment. The commotion caused the police to show up, prompting Kawaki to flee.

When Team 7 found Sumire injured, they left Boruto to tend to her while they went after Kawaki. Upon waking up, Sumire was relieved to find the Hokage there with her. She shared her belief that Kawaki's rampage was a result of his troubled past and emotional scars. Naruto, understanding the importance of helping troubled youth, quickly and passively subdued Kawaki, much to Sumire's relief.

Later, Konohagakure was on high alert after the attack by Jigen, the leader of the dangerous organization Kara, who easily defeated the powerful duo of Naruto and Sasuke. Following a daring rescue mission by Team 7, the Hokage and other injured individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment, including the recently arrived Kawaki.

As Kawaki was subjected to various tests by Sumire and Katasuke, it became apparent that his body was rejecting the prosthetic arm due to its incompatibility with his chakra and nano-tech, causing him immense pain. Though Sumire offered him a painkiller to ease his discomfort, he refused, believing that his body wouldn't break down easily. However, upon witnessing Sumire's friendly interactions with her former classmates despite resigning from shinobi work, Kawaki eventually relented and accepted Sumire's previous offer of some pain-relieving medicine.

Sumire watched with a mixture of curiosity and trepidation as Amado, the enigmatic defector from Kara, was interrogated by the shinobi of Konohagakure. She had always been fascinated by the secrets of the celestial beings, and Amado's revelations about their true intentions were both thrilling and terrifying.

As Amado spoke of the dangers posed by Boruto's Kāma, Sumire felt a chill run down her spine. She had grown to care for him, and the thought of him being transformed into an Ōtsutsuki filled her with dread.

Later, as Isshiki Ōtsutsuki made his imperfect resurrection through Jigen's body, Sumire found herself among the small group of shinobi escorting Kawaki to a secret facility hidden from the enemy's Byakugan. She couldn't help but worry about Boruto and his father Naruto, who had gone to face Isshiki head-on.

But it was Amado's words that truly made her blood run cold. As he explained the true nature of Isshiki's plans, Sumire's mind raced to consider the implications. If Boruto was fully transformed by his Kāma, Isshiki could sacrifice him instead of himself to achieve the full maturity of the God Tree. The thought was horrifying to Sumire.

Despite her fear, Sumire remained calm and level-headed, impressing even Amado with her quick deductions. She asked him about Kawaki's prosthetic arm, hoping that the scientist could find a way to restore the boy's lost limb. But before Amado could answer, a sudden rift appeared and engulfed Kawaki, causing him to disappear in an instant.

Code's Assault Arc

As the news of Naruto and the other's victory over Isshiki spread, Sumire couldn't help but feel a sense of relief wash over her. The threat of the Ōtsutsuki had been looming over them for far too long, and the fact that they had been defeated at last was cause for celebration.

In the anime, Sumire found herself in the company of Sarada and Mitsuki when they went to greet the returning heroes. Her concern for Boruto was evident, and she couldn't help but feel a sense of relief when she saw that he had returned unharmed. However, her focus on him did not go unnoticed, and she became embarrassed when Chōchō pointed it out.

Despite her embarrassment, Sumire remained dedicated to her work, and in the following days, she assisted Amado and Katasuke in restoring Kawaki's arm. As she worked alongside them, she found herself enjoying a firsthand education in the advanced science behind the prosthetics they used. The opportunity was not lost on her, and she soaked up every bit of knowledge she could. In addition to her work on Kawaki's arm, Sumire found herself growing closer to the boy himself. As they talked about Boruto, she couldn't help but feel a sense of admiration for him. However, when Kawaki asked her if she liked Boruto, she became embarrassed once again.

Sumire had been working closely with Amado for some time and had proven herself to be a valuable asset to the scientist. Her intelligence and dedication had not gone unnoticed, and as a result, she had been promoted to the position of Amado's personal assistant. However, despite her close working relationship with Amado, Sumire couldn't help but feel a sense of unease around him at times. This unease was only heightened when Kawaki awoke from a nightmare and Amado offered to rebrand him with the Ōtsutsuki mark.

Sumire was quick to speak up, questioning Amado's motives and asking why he was so insistent on rebranding Kawaki. Her concern for her friend was evident. Amado's response was cryptic. He noted that if Sumire's goal was to spy on him, she should have kept quiet. This made Sumire even more suspicious that Amado was up to something.

Sumire's suspicions about Amado's true intentions persisted, even as he reassured her that he had no intention of causing harm to Konoha. Despite his insistence, Sumire remained wary of his actions and continued to keep a close eye on him.

One day, as she worked alongside Amado and Katasuke on a new project, Amado revealed that the container they were working on was designed to be a powerful ally for the village. Sumire was impressed by the technology they had developed, but couldn't shake the feeling that there was more to the project than meets the eye.

As news of Kawaki's battle with Code reached them, Sumire raised the possibility that Code may have used an Outer to track down Kawaki so quickly. Amado acknowledged that this was a possibility, but seemed to think it was unlikely.

Omnipotence Arc

Following a heated confrontation between Kawaki and Code outside Konoha, Shikamaru tasked Sumire with examining Kawaki's injuries as he didn't trust Amado to do so before an interrogation. Sumire quickly determined that Kawaki's injuries had already healed due to his modified body and that he was only unconscious due to chakra exhaustion. Sensing the tense atmosphere in the room, Sumire, unaware of the true circumstances surrounding the situation, inquired if something had happened to Naruto. Shikamaru reassured her that Naruto was simply exhausted from his battle earlier.

Sumire and Naruto kept a watchful eye on Kawaki until he regained consciousness. Naruto asked Sumire to give them some privacy, but before she could leave, Kawaki questioned Naruto's attitude towards him for attempting to kill Boruto, leaving Sumire in shock. She remained silent as the two conversed until Naruto had to depart, assuring her that Boruto was unharmed. Sumire then spoke with Kawaki about his altercation with Boruto and listened to his evolving perspective on the Kāma. She also confided in him her doubts about Amado's true intentions.

Sumire was present during Team 7's first mission briefing in a while, still haunted by her last conversation with Kawaki when he spoke of killing Boruto. Shikamaru and Konohamaru updated them on the current Ōtsutsuki threats and revealed details about Ada and Daemon's shinjutsu abilities, including Ada’s power to captivate anyone who lays eyes on her. Their mission was to survey Ada's commitment to an alliance with Konoha. When Boruto questioned why Ada would be interested in Kawaki, who is immune to her powers, Sumire speculated that Ada might want a genuine love experience instead of a forced one.

Later, Sumire participated in a meeting with Amado through the communication system where he explained the origins of Ada's and Daemon's abilities. During the meeting, Sumire noticed Delta's absence and went looking for her. She found Delta requesting permission from Sarada and Mitsuki to see Ada, and she quickly issued Delta's shutdown command. Complaining about the long distance she had to run, Sumire voiced her concern that Delta was not supposed to disobey her or Katasuke and decided to have Delta's code rechecked.

As Ada grew increasingly frustrated with her inability to express herself, she invited Sumire and Sarada to join her in the hopes that they might help her figure out her feelings for Kawaki. However, Delta attempted to join them, prompting Sumire to threaten to shut her down again. When Sumire asked Ada what she liked about Kawaki, she was unable to provide an answer beyond his immunity to her ability. Sumire and Sarada realized that they were not affected by Ada's power, and contacted each other through their mind-link to discuss their discovery. They decided to keep this information to themselves to prevent the risk of it being leaked accidentally. Shikamaru was informed of their discovery and added them to the list of people who could take Ada down if necessary.

Meanwhile, a commotion between Boruto and Kawaki caught Sumire's attention, reminding her of her previous conversation with Kawaki about killing Boruto. After Kawaki left, Ada suggested they go shopping.

Later, Sumire found out that Kawaki had sent Naruto and Hinata away, and she tried to console Sarada after learning that Kawaki had killed Boruto once and planned to do it again. Despite her and Shikamaru's advice against it, Sarada went after Kawaki on her own. Sumire stayed behind with Daemon and Ada, but when she saw a massive explosion in the sky, she knew that something had gone terribly wrong.

After the explosion, everyone's attitude towards Boruto and Kawaki suddenly shifted, with Boruto being treated like the enemy who had attacked Kawaki. Confused and trying to make sense of what had happened, Sumire contacted Sarada, who was equally confused by the sudden change in everyone's behavior. Sumire hypothesized that Ada's power had somehow affected everyone's perceptions, just like her enchantment, and that only those immune to it, like Sumire and Sarada, remained unaffected.

Sumire Kakei’s Personality

Sumire is a soft-spoken and reserved girl, much like other children her age who admire the Seventh Hokage. Despite her quiet demeanor, she genuinely cares for her classmates and goes out of her way to avoid conflicts. Sumire's motivation to become a shinobi stems from her desire to honor her late father's memory. When Sumire decides to carry out her father's final request, she becomes intensely focused and driven. Her rigorous training as a child has left her with little remorse for the harm she inflicts on former friends and other villagers.

When Boruto confronts her, she denies ever having been the Sumire he knew, but her newfound friendships with her classmates, who never intended to cause harm, ultimately lead her to let go of her past and take responsibility for her actions. She also forms a strong emotional bond with Nue, whom she sees as family. After reconciling with her classmates and returning to her role as the class representative, Sumire rejects her father's extremist views and embraces a kinder and more gentle approach.

She is highly analytical and strategic, quickly identifying the strengths and weaknesses of her friends' battle tactics and devising ways to best approach the Chunin Exams. As a member of the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team, Sumire becomes more confident and comfortable expressing herself, even admitting to her friends that she has developed romantic feelings for Boruto. Despite this, she remains embarrassed and tries to keep her feelings hidden from Boruto. During a critical situation in which Konoha is manipulated into believing Boruto has killed the Seventh Hokage, Sumire demonstrates great emotional control and maturity, remaining focused and composed while her friend Sarada becomes distressed. Her intuition also proves to be spot on as she correctly identifies Ada as the culprit behind the chaos.

Sumire Kakei’s Appearance

Sumire is a young girl with striking purple eyes that compliment her shoulder-length, purple hair. Her hair is styled with two long braided ponytails at the back and a fringe that covers her forehead. She has a simple yet elegant fashion sense, often wearing a black polo-neck shirt underneath a violet dress with a white collar. The dress is knotted with a purple ribbon, giving her outfit a seifuku overall look. She pairs this with long black shinobi sandals, completing her attire.

Sumire's father once placed the formula for the Gozu Tennō on her back. During her undercover missions, she wears a cracked pale-white mask with two horn-like disfigurements and a white cloak. Underneath the cloak, she wears a purple sleeveless halterneck shirt with a light pink sash around her waist and dark pants with a shuriken holster around her right thigh. She also wears long fingerless black gloves, with bandages wrapped around her wrists and footwear. Sumire lets her hair down during these missions. After letting go of her hatred, the Gozu Tennō was removed from her back, and replaced by a small red dot on her left palm, which serves as an eye for her companion, Nue.

In her later appearances, Sumire wears a purple seifuku dress paired with black high-heeled mary-jane shoes and white ankle socks. She cuts her long hair to a bob-style that reaches her shoulders with twin long braids. Her fashion sense may have evolved, but her elegant style remains the same.

Sumire Kakei’s Abilities

Sumire is a highly capable kunoichi who has undergone rigorous training from a young age, honing her skills to a level far surpassing that of a typical genin. One of Sumire's most powerful weapons is her deceptive and manipulative nature, which has enabled her to craft a new persona for herself. She presents herself as a meek and unassuming young girl, concealing her true abilities and intentions from those around her.

Sumire's intelligence has not gone unnoticed, as she was scouted by the prestigious Scientific Ninja Weapons Team at a young age. Despite being a relatively new member, she quickly proved her worth and became one of the team's most valued workers, demonstrating her aptitude for scientific research and development.

Interestingly, Sumire has displayed a curious immunity to Omnipotence, a powerful technique cast by Ada. The reasons behind this are yet to be explained, leaving many to wonder what other surprises Sumire may have in store.

Physical Prowess

Sumire possesses impressive physical abilities, particularly in the areas of speed and agility. Her swift movements enable her to quickly dodge incoming attacks and evade pursuers with ease. Additionally, she displays considerable proficiency in taijutsu, as evidenced by her ability to hold her own against Mitsuki. Sumire's stealth skills are also noteworthy, as she is capable of concealing her presence with remarkable efficiency, making it challenging to detect her.

Ninjutsu

Sumire is a skilled user of Water Release, able to manipulate water to create a variety of techniques, including clones, barriers, and projectiles. She has demonstrated her proficiency in Water Release through her use of powerful jutsu like Water Release: Water Flower Ring and Water Release: Splash. In addition, she has shown remarkable talent in shuriken jutsu, utilizing her kunai to counter an incoming attack and accurately strike her target at the same time.

Sumire's skills are not limited to offensive techniques alone. She has shown great aptitude in Cooperation Ninjutsu, allowing her to work seamlessly with her comrades in battle. She has also demonstrated her proficiency in Fuinjutsu, using her sealing techniques to restrict the movements of her enemies and amplify the might of her fellow users. Sumire's diverse range of skills and techniques make her a formidable kunoichi in battle.

Summoning Technique

Sumire possesses the unique ability to summon Nue, a powerful creature, through the Gozu Tennō seal placed on her back by her father. She can summon Nue even without fully manifesting its form, utilizing its snake-like masses of negative chakra to attack and steal the chakra of others. Though the summoning contract was seemingly destroyed, Sumire retains a portion of the seal on her left palm.

Afterward, she developed the Summoning: Nue technique, which allows her to summon Nue in a chibi and house pet-sized form. As time passed, Nue gained the ability to temporarily mature into a larger form, taking on the shape of a large jungle cat.
