Inojin Yamanaka in Naruto

Academy Entrance Arc

Inojin joined Ninja Academy and was placed in Shino Abrumane's class alongside his childhood friends Shikadai and Chocho. While he doesn’t like Boruto Uzumaki at the beginning as he thinks that Boruto uses his Naruto’s status to get rid of the problems, things change after Inojin gets to know Boruto. He learns that Boruto is trying to make a name for himself.

Boruto was punished by having Inojin and his buddies repair the Hokage Rock after his failed shurikenjutsu attempt resulted in property damage. Inojin, Boruto, and Shikadai discovered Lee acting strangely aggressive the day after Shikadai had made fun of him for having anxiety issues. Inojin used his drawings, which he used to mimic Shikadai's shadows, to fool his opponent and catch him off guard during the fight that broke out between them.

Inojin and the other boys started arguing with the girls during a lecture on summoning skills. Later on, when they were still eating lunch, Boruto and Sarada got into an argument about who would get the last yakisoba bun. Shino showed up and insisted that the guys and girls settle their differences by competing in a race for a flag. The competition immediately became intense, and several of the lads were eliminated, leaving only Boruto, Shikidai, and Inojin on their squad.

Boruto, who was getting desperate, discovered a summoning scroll and suddenly summoned a snake-like being. As the monster rampaged among the kids and launched Chocho Akimichi from the roof, Inojin assisted Boruto in saving Chocho. The contest finished with the girls winning the flag while Konohamaru's quick arrival controlled the beast.

On the day of the Five Kage Summit in Konoha village, Shino ended class earlier than usual, so most students went to eat or play. Inojin asked Chocho and Shikadai to join him in training but they both refused. Instead they went to eat while Inojin trained alone, but when he spotted his mother, Ino, he hid from her because he was afraid to face her.

Later, Shino instructed the class to form a group of three and spend a few days at each separate company to better comprehend life outside of the shinobi world. Lee and Inojin went to the fire department together. Inojin stared in humiliation as they worked as Lee's social nervousness led him to spray the area with a fire hose without any aim, spraying all the random spots. After finding out that some of his friends were being treated in a hospital for a recent attack, Inojin went to see how they were doing.

Shikadai approached Inojin and Lee after finishing his task with the fire department, asking them to help him stop the intruder. At the post office, Inojin and his friends discussed their strategy. Soon they were able to find out that it was all Nue and Sumire Kakei doing who wanted to destroy the village because his father ordered them to, but later, Boruto and her classmates made her change the path.

Sometime later, Shino again shuffled the three-man team, and this time Inojin teamed up with his childhood friends Shikadai and Chocho. Together they made the Ino-Shika-Cho trio which Iwabee Yunio also noted. When the graduation exam was announced, Inojin trained with his father to become more skilled and powerful but complained to his classmates about not taking it seriously. He was not impressed by his father's old-fashioned drawing.

School Trip Arc

The Seventh Hokage organized an official class trip for the Academy to visit Kirigakure in order to strengthen ties with neighboring villages and symbolize the end of the waring era. When they arrived, they were welcomed by Kagura Karatachi, the class's tour guide. The Sixth Mizukage, Chojuro, met the pupils later and welcomed them to the village.

Inojin, Boruto, and Shikadai received a note in blood the next night as they were waiting for Denki to return from his shopping, saying that Denki had been kidnapped and the kidnappers wanted Denki's friends to meet them at the dock.

When they arrived, the culprits were identified as Tsurushi Hachiya and his criminal group, a former classmate of Kagura's. They attacked the visiting class as they started making fun of Kagura's friendship with the Konoha-nin. As they battled, Hachiya revealed Kagura's troubled past as the Fourth Mizukage's grandson and a man with a reputation for bloodshed from his Academy days.

They invited him to join them in a game of cards to cheer up Kagura after they had defeated their enemies. Later Inojin, alongside Shikadai, helped Boruto and Sarada in their mission.

Graduation Exams Arc

Inojin started to photocopy his drawing as he thought drawing again and again was troublesome, but when he tried to use the Photocopy drawing in his training, he failed to use it. He said to Sai that he was not able to control his ability, but Sai gave him the suggestion to enter in drawing competition to train his art. However, after he lost to Himawari Uzumaki in that competition, he asked Ino to teach him Mind Body Switching Technique out of frustration but failed to use it properly.

He later found his old drawing and sought help from Himawari, and after she explained to him that an artist should put their heart and soul into it, Inojin understood real art, and then he was able to use Beast scroll techniques properly. Later their real task was to touch the buzzer of their Ninja academy teachers and get the bell from Kakashi Hatake.

However, they weren’t able to do that but Kakashi still passed them all because of their team spirit and unity. After Inojin became Genin, he was placed in Team 10 with Chocho and Shikadai under Moegi Kazamatsuri.

Assigned personally by the Seventh Hokage, Team 10's initial task was to escort a client. While he and Shikadai carried the client's shopping throughout Konoha, Chocho was forced to carry nothing, which upset Inojin. Later, Inojin uses his Super Beast Imitating Drawing to help Team 10 clear stones from the Thunder Rail.

Byakuya Gang Arc

Byakuya Gang became a big issue for Konoha and other villages as they were stealing money from banks and no village could catch them. Along with other genin teams, Team 10 was tasked with finding and apprehending the thieves. However, they were not allowed to fight the gang without support from a Chunin or Jonin rank senior shinobi.

Team 10 was given the mission of being at a crucial location during the protest when protesters tried to accuse the Kaminarimon Company of corrupt practices. Inojin and Chocho followed Shikadai when he left on his mission, and Boruto joined them at that point. Boruto informed them that he believed the Byakuya Gang was planning to attack the Ninjutsu Research Centre.

When the genin arrived at the institute, they found that it had been robbed. Katasuke Tono then gave them a way to find the thieves. Later with the help of Naruto, they were able to catch the Byakuya Gang.

Versus Momoshiki Arc

Moegi gave them the Chunin exam application, and when Inojin and his teammates were not sure about participating in the exam, Moegi handed Shikadai and Inojin a not from their mother, and because of that, they agreed to participate. Later in the first stage, Shikadai saved both Inojin and Chocho from falling into the Ink pit with his shadow paralysis Jutsu.

In the 2nd stage, they captured the Kusagukre team flag resulting in them winning the 2nd round. After advancing to the third stage, Inojin was against Araya but failed to win against him but still later, he and his teammates cheered for Shikadai against Boruto. When Momoishki Otsutsuki and Kinishki Otsutsuki destroyed the stadium, Inojin used his Beast scrolling technique to help civilians escape the stadium.

Chocho Arc

Team 10 was given the mission to guard actors of the famous tv drama Tomaru and Ashina after both actors received a death threat from the criminal. Chocho was assigned to Ashina, and Shikadai and Inojin were assigned to Tomaru, which upset Inojin as he wanted to take care of Ashina. Later a masked man kidnapped Tomaru and left a note that he wanted 20 million Ryo and should be delivered by Ashina.

When Ashina went to exchange somehow, Konohamaru Sarutobi was able to capture the kidnapper, and then he got to know that it was Ashina who planned all this to gain her actress status back. Later she was arrested and sent to jail.

Mitsuki's Disappearance Arc

After Mitsuki was named as a Konoha traitor, Sarada and Boruto went to bring Mitsuki back as they believed that Mitsuki did not betray Konoha. Team 10 was given the task of bringing back both Sarada and Boruto. Soon they were able to locate them, but Boruto used his Shadow clone to mislead Moegi to chase after that clone.

However, Inojin, Chocho, and Shikadai followed the real Sarada and Boruto, but soon, with the help of Shikadai's tactics, they were able to intercept their path. But after receiving the message from the Mitsuki snake, Shikadai agreed to help Boruto and convinced Inojin and Chocho.

Inojin, alongside other Konoha-nin in Mitsuki's rescue journey, fought Garaga in the cave, and later, they fought against Kokuyo and then entered Iwagakure. After Team 10 found Boruto and Sarada, they waited for Boruto to wake up as Mitsuki attacked him. Inojin found an imperfect mini Akkuta who was surprisingly fond of him, and then Inojin said he wanted to keep him and also gave him the nickname Akkun.

When Boruto woke up, they decided to go and ask for help from Onoki. After waiting for a long time, Inojin decided to find his friends and soon they found Akatsuchi, who was injured. Then an explosion was seen and Inojin was chosen to escort Akatsuchi back to the cave while Sarada and Chocho went to look into it after realizing that it might be their pals. Kirara discovered the hiding place when she returned to the cave.

Inojin attempted to defend Akkun and seal her while she assaulted it, but her genjutsu defeated him. Boruto used Inojin as a pawn to approach him and the others, where he quickly subdued his friend. Later they were able to defeat Ku and his followers, but when Inojin was fighting against Kokuyo, Akkun saved him from getting hit by Kokuyo. Koukyo hit Akkun in the face, which destroyed his mask and led him to crumble, making Inojin cry, and soon they went back to Konoha.

Time Slip Arc

Inojin joined the other genin in experimenting with new tracking surveillance technology. When Urashiki Otsutsuki was sighted nearby during the field test, Inojin joined a number of other Konoha-nin in following him. This, however, turned out to be a division on the part of the alien, who used a genjutsu on them to allow him to enter the community covertly. After Uraishiki was defeated, Inojin gave a farewell party with their classmates to Sumire, who transferred to Scientific Lab.

Kara Actuation Arc

As part of Team Shinki, Inojin and his teammates were tasked with finding Urashiki's final puppet in the Land of Wind. Inojin's squad decided to stop for a quick meal on a route to the mission, where they ran into Deepa, who ignored them. They were shocked to see that everyone inside the restaurant had been brutally murdered and thought if Deepa was to blame.

Inojin's team met with Shinki's team after reporting their findings to Sunagakure. After that, they found Deepa with the puppet and tried to stop him. Deepa was able to defeat them easily, but he let them live. After Inojin's team came back to Konoha, he and Shikadai decided to help Boruto in training.

Inojin and the other shinobi with sensing abilities were requested to take part when Ino chose to test the newly upgraded sensing system. He discovered that his friends Boruto and Shikadai would also participate as fake invaders and be matched with fellow clansman Kohan.

He struggled in the morning and was unable to capture even one target. He expressed will to Ino for pushing him to take the test when he had little desire to use his senses. He admitted to his father that he believed his mother was disappointed in him, but Sai responded by explaining that she learned to sense because she looked up to her father, who was killed in the Fourth Shinobi World War.

After Kohan gave him a few pointers in the afternoon, he noticed an odd, registered chakra signature. They discovered a recent addition to the Bingo Book had copied a registered chakra signature to avoid detection after an investigation alongside Boruto and Shikadai. The three were able to capture the intruder after Inojin used his Super Beast Imitating Drawing to expand the range of his detecting abilities. The sensing system was changed to take into account his crucial discovery.

Kawaki Arc

After Team 7 brought Kawaki to Konoha, Naruto took up the job of looking after him while Inojin, Shikadai, and Chocho discussed Kawaki and that he was not someone they could trust. In reply, Shikadai told them he actually liked Kawaki's nature as he is straightforward.

It was also seen that Inojin and Shikadai brought Taiyaki for Kawaki when he was hospitalized and started trusting Kawaki. Later Inojin and Shikadai talk about the insider who came to Konoha for data. They both decided to investigate.

They also found Kakashi doing his own research and decided to work with the genin. Koji Kashin, the culprit, was located after he escaped into the sewers. Kakashi ordered the genin to inform the authorities of their findings as he followed the man.

Koji eventually managed to get away. While Team 10 was disappointed with their failure, they did find comfort in the fact that they had prevented Koji from stealing further data.

Amado Sanzu, Kara's head scientist, approached the Ino-Shika-Cho trio as they were practicing. The genin tried to hold him back since they thought he was suspicious. Amado used medicine to put Shikadai to sleep after using his technology to repel his technique easily.

He strapped a bomb to Shikadai's neck that would detonate in 48 hours. After being informed by Inojin using the Mind Body Transmission Technique through his mother, Sai and other Konoha-nin appeared. When Amado requested to speak with him, Shikamaru was offered communication through Ino's telepathic assistance.

Amado firmly declared his intention to transfer to Konoha while revealing all of his knowledge of Kara and its assets, including their Ten-Tails and Otsutsuki. Inojin and Chocho were given the task of looking after Shikadai. Meanwhile, they interrogated Amado.

Chunin Re-Examination Arc

After Isshiki Otsutsuki was defeated, Naruto declared to do host another Chunin exam as it was halted when Momoishiki and Kinshiki invaded. Inojin easily passed the first and second stages, and in the third stage, he was one-on-one against Hoki Taketori, a Sai student. Shikadai told Inojin to ask him about Hoki's abilities from his father, but in reply, Inojin said he wanted to defeat Hoki by himself without anyone's help.

The next day Inojin fought Hoki and used all his skills and abilities but was not able to defeat him as Hoki was able to break through Inojin Mind Body Transfer Technique. After Sarada Inojin also defeated Chocho, Chocho cried for their broken promise, which they did before the third round to Shikadai.

Later, to test Kawaki's team unity and his shinobi skills, Team 10 was given the mission alongside him but failed to complete the mission because of Kawaki.

Inojin is blunt and always says what he feels like, which hurts some people. He is more into logical thinking rather than optimistic thinking. At first, he did not like Boruto because he used to think Boruto used his father, Naruto, to get rid of many problems, but later, he understood that Boruto wanted to have a name for himself.

He is one of the most sensible genin in his team and always tries to avoid the chaos, which is mostly created by Boruto. He also loses interest in things easily, as he did in drawing and then in perfecting his Mind Body Transfer Technique. But later, he got motivated after knowing about his grandfather's story.

He has a light blonde medium-length haircut with a small ponytail. His outfit is somewhere like Sai’s outfit, which is a purple top underneath a black collarless bodysuit with red straps and mesh armor. He carries two items in his backpack, one of which has a handle on either side.

Both of his ears are pierced with grey stud earrings, as is traditional for his clan. As an academy student, he used to wear a violet sweater, the same brown strap that Sai used to hold his tanto, and standard shinobi sandals.

Inojin is one of the most skilled and versatile genin as he knows a few Yamanaka clan jutsu and Sai Super beast scroll Jutsu. He also has impressive basic Genin skills and intelligence.

Inojin knows Medical ninjutsu as well and he is also good at detecting chakra like his mother but with the help of his drawing and the beasts, he draws to a wide range of senses. He knows Mind Body Switch Technique and also the Scroll beast technique. He also knows Finjutsu as he carries Tonton with him just like his father.
