Toki was born during the mysterious time period known as the Void Century, which was around 830 years ago. She belonged to the Amatsuki daimyo family but didn't know much about her homeland. Toki ate a special Devil Fruit called the Toki Toki no Mi, which allowed her to travel forward in time whenever she was in danger.
She ended up in a time 30 years prior to the current story's timeline and met a pirate crew led by a guy named Karma. They promised to help her get to Wano Country, but she soon realized they were actually human traffickers.
She was about to escape through time again when Kozuki Oden, who looked really strange because of a swollen body, arrived on the scene. Toki took care of Oden's injuries, and the next day, they had to deal with Karma. But Whitebeard, a powerful pirate, defeated Karma and took Toki, Oden, and their children aboard his ship, the Moby Dick.
While traveling with the Whitebeard Pirates, Toki and Oden got married. Two years later, Toki gave birth to their son, Momonosuke, and later to their daughter, Hiyori. When Oden decided to join Gol D. Roger on his final journey, Toki and her family went with him on the Oro Jackson ship.
After the Roger Pirates visited Fish-Man Island, Toki became sick due to the stress from their long journey. When they reached Wano Country, she made Oden promise to continue his adventures, or else she'd divorce him. Toki stayed in Wano with her children while Oden went on more adventures.
After recovering from her illness, Toki worked alongside the people of Kuri, and she and her children became beloved figures in the region. About half a year before Oden's return from his voyage, a group of Beasts Pirates attacked Kuri Castle while Kin'emon and other retainers were away in the Flower Capital to confront Orochi. The attack was repelled by Kawamatsu and Inuarashi, but Toki got injured while protecting Momonosuke.
When Oden finally returned to Wano, Toki and her children welcomed him back. However, upon learning about what had happened to Toki, Oden couldn't be calmed and immediately charged toward the Flower Capital.
Despite Oden's actions and his loss of respect among many of Wano's people, his family still loved him for the next five years.
Before Oden left Kuri to confront Kaido, he gave Toki a letter. While Oden and the Scabbards battled the Beasts Pirates in the Udon region, Toki and her children stayed in Oden Castle, guarded by Shimotsuki Yasuie and his men.
After Oden's capture, Toki visited him in prison in the Flower Capital. Oden entrusted his swords to Toki and asked her to pass them on to their children.
On the day of Oden's execution, Momonosuke asked his mother why his life was in danger, and Toki explained that it was because he would one day lead Wano.
After learning about Oden's death, Toki read the letter he had given her and then tore it apart. She was in Kuri Castle with her children, Momonosuke and Hiyori, when Kaido, who was working with Orochi, set the castle on fire.
When Oden's retainers returned, they asked her to come with them to escape to Zou. Instead, Toki chose to send Momonosuke, along with Kin'emon, Kanjuro, Raizo, and Kikunojo, twenty years into the future. She entrusted Hiyori to Kawamatsu's care. Even though she didn't want to, the retainers followed her request.
Toki then left the castle on a horse while members of the Beasts Pirates shot arrows and guns at her. She arrived at a giant torii gate and delivered a prophecy with the burning castle behind her. The people of Bakura Town saw her final moments, and as she finished speaking, she was shot by her pursuers. Toki collapsed and passed away.
Toki's prophecy gave hope to the supporters of the Kozuki Family in Wano and struck fear in Kurozumi Orochi. They believed that in twenty years, nine samurai would come to avenge Oden and open Wano's borders.
Ironically, Orochi was the only one who took the prophecy seriously. He spent the next twenty years trying to prevent the Kozuki Family's supporters from seeking revenge on him.
Toki's prophecy eventually came true when six of the Nine Red Scabbards beheaded Orochi after he lost the protection and support of Kaido. Denjiro delivered the final blow, putting an end to Orochi's tyrannical rule as the shogun.
Toki has a very friendly and caring nature. She demonstrated her kindness by taking care of Oden when he arrived on the island, and she was eager to repay him for scaring away human traffickers. However, her friendliness could also make her somewhat naive, as she initially fell for the promises of human traffickers who claimed they would take her to Wano. Despite this, she quickly saw through their deception, indicating that she is not easily fooled.
Toki displayed an excited and positive attitude when she arrived 30 years before the present, particularly in her anticipation of going to Wano. Her enthusiasm for new experiences and adventures is evident.
Toki's humility is another notable aspect of her personality. She worked with the citizens of Kuri and never boasted about her status as the wife of a daimyo. This suggests that she values her role within the community and doesn't seek attention or recognition for her position.
Lastly, Toki garnered significant respect from Oden's retainers, which implies that she earned their admiration and trust, possibly through her kind and caring nature.
Toki was a tall woman with long dark hair, which is portrayed as light green in the anime adaptation. She typically kept her hair pulled back, with the exception of two strands in the front, which resembled her daughter, Kozuki Hiyori. On the right side of her hair, she wore a flower ornament with a chain of pearls.
Toki wore a short pink kimono with crescent moons on the bottom of it, resembling the Kozuki Family's symbol. Her attire suggests a traditional and elegant style.
Additionally, it's mentioned that Toki held a strong resemblance to her daughter, Kozuki Hiyori.
A few years later, Toki received a scar on her left thigh from an arrow shot while defending her children.
Toki was the wife of Kozuki Oden, who was the leader of Kuri. She had a high status in Wano until Oden was executed.
Toki also had a special power because she ate the Toki Toki no Mi, a Devil Fruit. This power allowed her to send herself and others into the future, but she couldn't send them back to the past.
She used this ability to escape dangerous situations by traveling to a time when the danger was gone. She ended up traveling 800 years into the future. The last time she used her power was to send her son and some of Oden's followers twenty years into the future to save them from the Beasts Pirates.
Toki carried a katana (a type of sword) and drew it when she confronted Karma and his gang. However, it's not clear if she had any skill in using the sword because she intended to escape by traveling to the future, not by fighting.
Toki first met Kozuki Oden when she was in trouble with a pirate crew. She helped him when he got injured, and they went on adventures with the Whitebeard Pirates. They fell in love, got married, and settled in Wano. When Toki got sick, she encouraged Oden to continue his journey.
After Oden was executed, Toki used her powers to send their children and some of Oden's followers into the future to fulfill Oden's dream of opening Wano's borders. She stayed behind and joined Oden in the afterlife.
Toki loved her children, Momonosuke and Hiyori, and protected them from danger. Momonosuke was deeply saddened by his parents' deaths, and Hiyori was traumatized and stopped speaking for a long time.
Toki was on Whitebeard's ship and asked to stay with them, but it's unclear if she took part in piracy. She revealed her age and origin from the past, which the crew found amusing.
The Nine Red Scabbards deeply respected Toki. After Oden's death, they risked their lives to rescue her and her children. They promised to carry out Oden's wishes by overthrowing Kaido and Orochi and opening Wano's borders, which made Toki smile in gratitude. She entrusted Momonosuke to Kin'emon and Hiyori to Kawamatsu.
The people of Wano, including samurai like Jibuemon, also respected Toki and believed in her prophecy about nine samurai overthrowing Kaido and Orochi in twenty years.
In addition to the One Piece manga and its anime adaptation, Toki also appears as a playable character in One Piece Treasure Cruise.
The name "Toki" is associated with the Japanese crested ibis, which aligns with Oda's tradition of naming female characters after birds. Additionally, "Toki" is the Japanese word for "time," which matches the name and ability of her Devil Fruit.
Toki was the only known female member of the Roger Pirates.
The nine shadows mentioned in Toki's prophecy were later revealed to be represented by the Nine Red Scabbards, who included Kin'emon, Denjiro, Kikunojo, Raizo, Kanjuro (who was later revealed as a spy for Orochi), Ashura Doji, Inuarashi, Nekomamushi, and Kawamatsu. Izou, Kikunojo's brother and a former retainer of the Kozuki Family, also joined the group during the Raid on Onigashima.
After the raid, nine figures emerged, including Denjiro, Hiyori, Kin'emon, Kawamatsu, Inuarashi, Raizo, Shinobu, Nekomamushi, and Kikunojo, who introduced Momonosuke as the new Shogun of Wano Country to its citizens.
Toki's favorite food is kombumaki.
