Diamante, as a child, was very poor and found comfort in a pirate outfit that he wore, dreaming of becoming a champion. He also ate Hira Hira no Mi at some point.
At the age of fourteen, he befriended young Doflamingo on the island of Downs in the North Blue, along with Trebol, Vergo, and Pica. Impressed by Doflamingo's Haoshoku Haki, they pledged loyalty to him and treated him like royalty, even going to extremes like burning down a town over poor pavement that made Doflamingo trip.
Sixteen years ago, at Spider Miles in the North Blue, Diamante was already an officer in Doflamingo's crew. When Law joined the crew, Diamante, along with Trebol, talked to him about his remaining life, witnessing Corazon's behavior before Corazon threw Law out of the window.
After a week with the crew, Diamante had a meal with other members of Doflamingo's "family," expressing curiosity about how long Law would last. They later learned that Law was sick with the Amber Lead Syndrome.
As Law became an official crew member, the Donquixote Pirates, led by Doflamingo, spread their influence across the Grand Line, engaging in various activities like looting, business deals, and bounty collection. During this time, Diamante taught Law sword-fighting techniques.
One day, Corazon suddenly left the Donquixote Pirates, taking Law with him. Six months later, Diamante, along with Trebol, Pica, and Doflamingo, had a meeting. They noticed that the Marines were not tracking them during Corazon's absence.
Later, the crew made plans to steal the Ope Ope no Mi on Rubeck Island and meet Corazon on Swallow Island three days before the exchange.
Arriving at Minion Island, they learned of Corazon's betrayal from Vergo. While Doflamingo covered the island in his birdcage, the Donquixote Pirates attacked Corazon, leaving him for dead when Marines took a boy into custody, who they believed to be Law.
In the anime, a year later, they held an auction for the Goru Goru no Mi, leading to conflict with Gild Tesoro.
Two years later, Diamante joined Doflamingo's takeover of Dressrosa. After making Riku Doldo III a villain, Diamante, Trebol, and Pica posed as heroes, with Diamante pursuing Scarlett and Rebecca.
Diamante also shot Scarlett, learning later that she was Viola's sister. Over time, he became the "Hero of the Colosseum" and held a high rank in Doflamingo's army, sitting in the Diamond chair.
On Dressrosa, Diamante discussed the Mera Mera no Mi matters with Doflamingo, entrusted to him by his captain. Later, he appeared in the Corrida Colosseum, announced after the other four members of the Donquixote Family, participating in the tournament to win the Mera Mera no Mi.
During the tournament, Diamante watched from the staff room, talking with Bellamy about an assassination assignment. He promised Bellamy an officer position if he eliminated Monkey D. Luffy. Diamante was surprised by the Haoshoku Haki displayed in the fights.
Amid Law and Doflamingo's battle on the iron bridge, Diamante contacted Doflamingo, informing him of Violet's betrayal. Doflamingo ordered Diamante to send Lao G and others to guard the underground factory.
When Dellinger was impeded by Bartolomeo, Diamante instructed him to abandon Bellamy and head to the underground factory. He also heard about Franky's attempt to breach the Toy House.
Entering the arena with "Lucy," Burgess, Bartolomeo, and Rebecca, Diamante faced disruption from disqualified participants from Block D. Using his Hira Hira no Mi powers, he repelled them and introduced a new challenge involving a chest on the back of Fighting Fish. The participants had to steal the chest, with the last person standing declared the winner.
Then, Diamante attempted to prevent Lucy from getting the Mera Mera no Mi but was surprised when Lucy shattered his weapon. Noticing Lucy's different fighting style, Diamante was taken aback, realizing it wasn't Luffy.
Rebecca attacked Diamante, but her weapon was dull, making her strike ineffective. Diamante, unimpressed, struck her with a club, taunting her about her mother's death.
As Sugar's curse broke and the toys transformed back, Diamante was displeased with Trebol's failure. Lucy, revealed to be Sabo from the Revolutionary Army, demolished the arena. Diamante used his powers to survive the collapse and fell into the underground trade port.
Later, he and Trebol guarded the SMILE factory, defeating many attackers. At the royal palace, relocated by Pica, Diamante tried to excuse losing the Mera Mera no Mi, but Doflamingo pardoned him. When Diamante asked about Issho, Doflamingo assured him the admiral wouldn't be a problem.
As Luffy and allies approached the palace, Diamante reminisced about meeting Law. He later confronted Rebecca in the Flower Field, chasing and taunting her. When he caught her, Kyros intervened, leading to a battle.
Kyros cut Diamante's face, who responded with "Army Bandera," making the ground ripple. As Diamante aimed an attack at Rebecca, Kyros defended her. Soon, Robin interfered, angering Diamante, who pressed his attack. He used "Hira Release" to rain spiked iron balls, but Kyros, despite a gunshot wound, deflected them.
Diamante then taunted Rebecca, challenging her to fight. Kyros, refusing to let her near, dueled Diamante. Kyros broke through Diamante's attack, cutting him down. Diamante then fell unconscious, hitting his head on Scarlett's grave pole.
After Doflamingo's defeat, Diamante was arrested by the Marines.
Diamante has a unique response to compliments, initially denying them until the flattery ceases. Despite this, Diamante takes great pride in being the "Hero of the Colosseum," boasting about surpassing Kyros in both skill and fame.
He also honors sportsmanship, as he declared Rebecca the winner of D Block in the Colosseum when other gladiators attempted to attack her.
In his interactions, Diamante reveals a cruel and insensitive side. He harshly speaks to Bellamy after his defeat and shows joy during the burning down of the Riku Family castle, displaying a lack of empathy.
This cruelty extends to recruits, including children, as he demonstrates little respect for them. His blunt admission of killing Viola's sister and mocking Rebecca's loss further showcases his callous disregard for others' feelings.
He doesn't shy away from using underhanded tactics, such as targeting Rebecca to gain an advantage in his fight against Kyros.
Despite his harsh exterior, Diamante displays strong loyalty and protectiveness towards his crew, considering them as family. He becomes visibly angered when anyone mocks his crew, emphasizing the importance of this familial bond.
Diamante wears a light-colored hat and brown locks of hair. Striped orange and red streaks run down his forehead, through his eyes, to his chin. He wears a pink shirt, purple pants, and a crimson steel cape in the manga, while the anime features a light-colored shirt with brighter red pants.
Despite being taller and more muscular than his captain, Doflamingo, Diamante has a slight hunchback. As a child, he wore an old pirate hat, a large robe, a tattered tank top, and striped pants. During the Dressrosa takeover, his face lacked the characteristic streaks. In the anime, he has blue eyes.
Diamante is one of the top officers in the Donquixote Pirates, holding the Diamond seat. He leads the Diamante Army, a group of powerful fighters. As the former manager of the Corrida Colosseum, he's known as the "Hero of the Colosseum" on Dressrosa, earning high praise from Doflamingo.
Doflamingo trusts Diamante's strength, assigning him to face all block winners in the tournament alone. Even at 14 years old, Diamante displayed strength, burning down a town with fellow officers. At 35, he, along with Trebol and Pica, defeated the entire Dressrosa army. Diamante can also use Busoshoku and Kenbunshoku Haki.
Diamante is incredibly strong, able to carry a dense steel cape effortlessly, resisting powerful attacks from fighters like Kyros without breaking a sweat. His sword skills are top-notch, and he even taught Trafalgar Law, showcasing his competence.
He can create compressed air slashes by swinging his sword, causing deep fissures in the ground. One of his notable moves is the "Hangetsu Glaive," where he swings his rapier, generating a powerful air projectile. This technique was used against Kyros.
Diamante's steel cape, combined with his Devil Fruit powers, serves as both defense and offense. He can make it flutter while maintaining its steel quality, snapping cutlasses and injuring enemies who come too close. He wields a flintlock handgun, a rapier, and a club, utilizing his Devil Fruit powers to reshape and attack. He also carries confetti blasters that release spiked iron balls and an iron umbrella for protection.
While resilient, he has a weak point on his forehead, always covered by his hat.
Diamante consumed the Hira Hira no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to give fabric-like properties to any non-living thing he touches. When affected, the material becomes flat, flexible, and foldable, akin to cloth. This power allows Diamante to manipulate objects creatively, folding and reshaping them into various forms.
Importantly, the material retains its natural characteristics, such as toughness and sharpness. Even hardened metal can flutter like fabric under his control. Diamante can use this ability on his weapons, making them flexible like a whip or concealing them until needed. It provides him with a versatile and unpredictable edge in combat, allowing attacks from unexpected angles.
Diamante treats Doflamingo with the utmost respect. Having known Doflamingo since childhood, Diamante not only follows Doflamingo's orders unquestioningly but also shows great faith in his captain's abilities.
Diamante and Trebol share a relationship based on mutual respect as fellow Elite Officers and family members. They have known each other for over thirty years and seem to get along well. Despite their camaraderie, Diamante displays irritation when Trebol fails in a crucial task, showcasing a degree of accountability within the crew.
Diamante and Pica, also fellow Elite Officers, show mutual respect and function well as a team. They have known each other for 30 years, and have a longstanding relationship within the crew. However, there is evidence of tension when Pica insults Diamante for losing to Kyros.
Senor Pink, as an officer under Diamante's army, is treated with respect as a family member. Diamante, along with Trebol, reacts with laughter when Senor Pink undergoes a sudden change into infant's clothing, seemingly unaware of the reasons behind the transformation.
Diamante has a low opinion of Bellamy, a new recruit with a poor track record of failures and expresses his disdain bluntly,. When Dellinger fails to carry out orders to kill Bellamy.
Diamante condemns Rebecca with brutal prejudice due to the framing of her grandfather and brutally mocks her by claiming to have killed her mother. This treatment instills fear in Rebecca, making her unwilling and unable to initially confront him.
Diamante further intensifies his cruelty by hunting her down, trying to kill her like her mother, and mocking her mother's death. Despite her fear, Rebecca's rage grows over time, culminating in a fierce confrontation where she demands to face Diamante.
Kyros harbors a deep-rooted hatred for Diamante, who killed Kyros's wife, Scarlett. The hatred intensifies when Diamante targets Rebecca, Kyros's daughter. The two engage in a fierce battle, with Diamante mocking Kyros for being the toy soldier mourning Scarlett. Kyros overcomes his handicaps and defeats Diamante, avenging his wife and the tragedies that befell Dressrosa.
Diamante, as a fellow Elite Officer, outwardly respects Rosinante. However, he expresses his opinion about Rosinante's perceived low intellect and concentration. Rosinante, despite the outward camaraderie, never sees Diamante (or anyone in the crew) as true comrades or family, adhering to his father's kindness. Diamante does not show sympathy for Rosinante when Doflamingo kills him, standing by and watching.
Diamante initially treats the young Trafalgar Law harshly and mockingly, consistent with his attitude towards new recruits. However, he finds Law's nihilistic and fearless attitude amusing. Diamante becomes Law's swordsmanship trainer. When Law betrays the crew 13 years later, Diamante is highly infuriated, showcasing a shift from mentorship to animosity.
In addition to the One Piece manga and its anime adaptation, Diamante also appears in the following games as a playable character:
One Piece: Super Grand Battle! X
One Piece Bounty Rush
One Piece Treasure Cruise
He also appears as a supporting character in One Piece: Great Pirate Colosseum and One Piece: Pirate Warriors 4.
Diamante's name means "Diamond" in Italian, Spanish, and Portuguese, aligning with the card suit theme of Doflamingo's Elite Officers.
Similar to Vergo and Donquixote Rosinante being named "Corazon" while holding the Heart seat, "Diamante" is likely a code name rather than the character's real name.
His combat style, involving a cape and rapier, resembles that of a Spanish bullfighter, using the cape to distract before striking with the rapier.
Diamante's appearance, especially his clothes, face, and attitude when playing with a microphone, draws inspiration from Steven Tyler, the Aerosmith rock band singer.
His favorite food is red wine.
