Wasabi Izuno is a fictional character in the popular manga and anime adaptation of the Boruto: Naruto Next Generations series, which is written by Ukyo Kodachi and Masashi Kishimoto and illustrated by Mikio Ikemoto.

Throughout her childhood, Wasabi was captivated by the stories her grandmother would share with her about their clan's most treasured possession: their powerful secret technique. She would listen in awe as her grandmother spoke of the incredible feats that could be accomplished with this technique and imagined herself wielding its immense power.
However, as Wasabi grew older and more discerning, she began to notice that every time her grandmother recounted the tales of their secret jutsu, she would embellish and exaggerate its abilities. Wasabi couldn't help but feel a growing sense of skepticism, wondering if the stories were nothing more than a fanciful invention of her grandmother's imagination.
On the day of the entrance ceremony, Wasabi joined her classmates in looking for the absent Boruto Uzumaki. To everyone's amazement, he suddenly appeared, crashing a train into Hokage Rock. Wasabi couldn't help but be impressed by his antics.
During a Summoning Technique class, Wasabi showed great excitement at the prospect of summoning her own animal of choice. However, she was less than thrilled with the choices the boys made in terms of their personal preferences for summons.
Later, as part of a class assignment, Wasabi was sent to shadow a non-shinobi workplace along with Sumire Kakei and Namida Suzumeno. Unfortunately, they were injured by a man possessed by a mysterious dark chakra while working at a water purification plant. Luckily, Naruto Uzumaki came to their rescue, but Wasabi and Namida still had to be hospitalized. After being discharged, they were seen leaving with their families.
Wasabi was disappointed to fail an obstacle course, but Shino explained to her that she needed to improve her teamwork skills in order to succeed. Weeks after the Nue incident, Wasabi was surprised by rumors that Sumire might transfer to another Academy. However, she was overjoyed when her friend returned.
During a school trip to Kirigakure, also known as the Village Hidden in the Mist, Wasabi, and her classmates were accompanied by their guide, Kagura Karatachi. While exploring the village, Wasabi, and the other girls noticed how the boys were vying for Kagura's attention, which she found slightly annoying. Despite this, they had a fun trip and eventually returned to their home village, Konohagakure.
Wasabi's loyalty to her friends was put to the test when Namida decided to give up her dream of becoming a shinobi. Despite being upset with her friend's decision, with the help of Sarada and Shino, they managed to convince Namida's parents to allow her to pursue her chosen career path, strengthening their friendship.
During the graduation exams, Wasabi seized the opportunity to cheat on the written test by accepting Shino's subtle offer to steal the answers. As a result, she passed the exam and moved on to the practical test. However, during the practical test, Wasabi and Namida were swiftly taken out by Konohamaru. Boruto, feeling responsible for their defeat, apologized to his friends and devised a plan to turn the tide in their favor. Wasabi teamed up with Metal Lee to launch an initial assault, causing the proctors to scatter.
The group then managed to rescue the captured students and eliminate the remaining proctors. Wasabi played an important role in Boruto's fight against Kakashi by lending her chakra for a cooperative fūinjutsu to immobilize the Sixth Hokage long enough for Boruto to grab the bells. Unfortunately, the strategy ultimately failed due to a timeout. Despite this, Kakashi recognized the students' teamwork and loyalty and passed them all.
After the exams, Wasabi was assigned to Team 15, led by Hanabi Hyūga, alongside Namida and Sumire.
At an unspecified time after the formation of Team 15, the group was assigned the mission of searching for a missing cat. Wasabi, however, became increasingly frustrated during the mission and wanted to go home.
The Byakuya Gang's thievery had been causing chaos in Konohagakure for some time. As a result, Team 15, along with other genin teams, was tasked with the mission of helping put an end to their unlawful activities. However, the genin were prohibited from confronting the gang without assistance from chūnin or higher-ranked shinobi. One day, while searching for the thieves, Wasabi and Sumire stumbled upon them stealing from a pawn shop.
Caught off guard, the genin were attacked but were thankfully saved by Temari's timely arrival, who fended off the thieves and allowed them to escape. Although the thieves managed to get away, Wasabi and Sumire were grateful for Temari's help and expressed their gratitude.
As the situation worsened, with the villagers who supported the gang causing trouble for companies accused of corruption, Wasabi, and her fellow ninja worked to calm the situation down.
As the next Chūnin Exams drew near, Wasabi and her team were assigned the mission of capturing all the escaped animals from Fire Park. Hanabi assigned her students to handle all the smaller animals alone. During the mission, Wasabi got into a fight with Namida, making the latter run away. Wasabi and Sumire were then alerted by their teammate's screams. To their horror, they found her being attacked by a giant white-maned wolf. Putting aside their differences, the three worked together to take down the massive beast.
As Wasabi and Namida made up with each other, this encouraged Sumire to come clean with her mistakes, admitting that she was behind the Nue incident. Wasabi and Namida revealed they already knew and likewise forgave her. Hanabi then appeared, having watched everything, and congratulated the genin on their great teamwork.
During the Chūnin Exams, the first round was a deceptive question that resulted in the genin falling into a pit, with Sumire using her Nue's power to save them. In the second round, they participated in a capture-the-flag competition, with Wasabi and Sumire protecting their team's flag. However, Yurui's attack allowed Toroi to capture their flag. Wasabi and her teammates watched the final round, cheering for Boruto as he emerged victorious against Shinki.
But their joy turned to dismay upon learning that Boruto had cheated using the forbidden Kote. After the defeat of Momoshiki and Kinshiki Otsutsuki and a return to normalcy, Wasabi and her teammates watched Boruto's interview at the Lightning Burger.
One day, Boruto approached Wasabi and her team, inquiring about Mitsuki's whereabouts, but they had no information to offer. Later, while eavesdropping on the Hokage, they found out that Team 7 was in danger at Iwagakure, also known as the Village Hidden in the Stones. Determined to help their friends, the genin asked to join the Hokage on the mission, but Naruto initially refused, not wanting to endanger them. However, Wasabi and her team were resolute and insisted on going with or without his approval.
Moved by their loyalty, Naruto eventually relented and allowed them to join. Upon arriving at Iwagakure, they found out that the battle had already ended, and Team 7 was safe. Nevertheless, they were relieved to see their friends unharmed. Unfortunately, the victory came at the cost of the Third Tsuchikage's life. The Konoha-nin wanted to attend the funeral, but Naruto ordered them to return to Konohagakure.
Sometime later, after Namida's explosive technique became more of a hindrance than a help, she set out to develop a new technique. Hanabi's rigorous training methods proved to be too much for Namida, so Wasabi and Sumire decided to lend a hand. Despite the girls' efforts, their next mission proved to be a challenge, as the bandits they faced were immune to Namida's new technique.
When the bandit leader stole an important document from their clients, Namida became disheartened, feeling she wasn't strong enough. However, Sumire and Wasabi reminded Namida of how much she had grown and how far she had come. This gave Namida the confidence she needed to unleash her signature scream in a new way, as a concussive blast that took down the bandit leader without causing any collateral damage.
At a later time, Konohamaru led Team 7 and Team 15 on a mission to investigate the mysterious attacks on the village by the local wildlife, as Hanabi was unavailable for the assignment. An ornithologist named Tosaka was also sent to assist them in dealing with the bird attacks. As they arrived at the scene, they were immediately attacked by strange and mutated birds. Upon reaching the village, they discovered that those who were attacked by the birds had fallen sick and were marked with Cursed Seals. Suspecting Orochimaru's involvement due to the presence of Jugo in the area, Konohamaru warned the teams not to engage with him alone and split them up for further investigation. Team 15 was instructed to remain together.
After Jugo cured the bird's cursed seal, Wasabi and her team helped Konohamaru track him down. However, Jugo injected himself with a mysterious substance and disappeared. Back in the village, Konohamaru's injuries worried Wasabi, as the cursed seal seemed to have spread through his wounds. However, Tosaka informed them that the curse marks on Jugo and the birds were different.
Konohamaru ordered Team 15 to return to Konoha and report the situation, but they were ambushed by Momo and Sasami. The villains tested their device-based cursed seals on the genin, infecting Namida and Wasabi while Nue saved Sumire. The researchers from the Land of Rivers later took Namida and Wasabi back to the village for treatment.
As Namida and Wasabi struggled to cope with their slowly adapting cursed seals, Momo and Sasami taunted them about their vulnerability and the ease of their cure. Later, their allies discovered the true nature of the Land of Rivers researchers and secretly infiltrated the facility to rescue Namida and Wasabi. Sumire administered the cure, but the effects took some time to fully take hold, so Sumire supported her friends as they walked.
However, Momo intercepted them, and despite Sumire and Nue's valiant efforts, his cursed seal proved too strong for them to handle. Eventually, Namida and Wasabi regained their strength and joined the fight, but Nue's full power was required to defeat Momo. Namida and Wasabi offered their chakra, allowing Nue to transform into its larger form, which proved successful as Sumire and Nue emerged victorious. Namida and Wasabi congratulated their friend for the hard-fought victory.
Karin and Sarada requested Team 15's assistance in finding and containing infected birds before they could migrate. However, they struggled to locate the birds, and Karin suggested killing them to prevent the infection from spreading. After defeating Tosaka and subduing Jugo's rampage, Suigetsu distributed the serum. Sumire then confided in Wasabi and Namida that Boruto's desire to be who he wants to be inspired her to join the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team to find a better way to work with Nue, and she asked them to keep it a secret until she was ready to tell their friends.
Later, Shikadai was promoted to chūnin and selected Wasabi to accompany him on his first mission as team captain. Boruto and Iwabee joined them to retrieve the rare and potent medical flower called the gekkōran, which blooms only briefly. They were also given a special tracking pig named Tonsuke to help locate the flowers. During the mission, Wasabi and Iwabee bickered, making the mission even more challenging.
The mission took a dangerous turn when they were attacked by bandits, who stole Tonsuke. Frustrated with his teammates, Shikadai decided to complete the mission alone. Wasabi felt conflicted about how to handle the situation, but when she noticed that Shikadai had been injured by a trap, she decided to catch up to him and help. After reconciling with Shikadai, the team rescued Tonsuke, captured the bandits, and secured the gekkōran to complete their mission.
During a field test of new surveillance equipment, Wasabi and other genin spotted Urashiki Ōtsutsuki in the area and chased after him. However, it turned out to be a genjutsu that allowed Urashiki to sneak into the village undetected. After Urashiki's defeat, Sumire was officially transferred to the Scientific Ninja Weapons Team, and Tsubaki Kurogane, a samurai student from the Land of Iron, was introduced as their new teammate. Tsubaki expressed her disapproval of the situation and viewed the shinobi of the peaceful era as lazy and without commitment.
Later, while out on a mission, Wasabi and Namida stumbled upon a wanted criminal in the Bingo Book. They engaged the man but were overpowered by him and his allies. Tsubaki arrived just in time to save them and applauded Wasabi's commitment to protecting her friend. After receiving a severe scolding from Hanabi for their recklessness, Wasabi and Namida joined their friends for Sumire's farewell party.
In light of recent events and the importance of having medical expertise on missions, it was made mandatory for at least one member of each team to have medical ninjutsu training. Wasabi, recognizing the significance of this skill set, decided to begin taking medical ninjutsu training. She found the training challenging but was determined to learn and become a proficient medical-nin.
After Sumire's departure, Team 15 struggled to perform as well as they had before. Tsubaki became determined to make her team the best and urged Wasabi and Namida to compete against each other on every mission. However, this only caused them to lose sight of their true objective and fail high-level assignments. Hanabi was disappointed with their performance and suspended the team until they learned to cooperate better.
The next day, when they saw Team 5 off on a boar hunt with a supposed merchant, they realized that the real merchant had been captured and replaced by a bandit leader. Worried for their friends, Team 15 rushed to their aid. They worked together effectively and Tsubaki realized that teamwork was the key to victory. Wasabi and Namida held off the enemies while Tsubaki prepared her ultimate technique, defeating most of the foes and leaving the leader for Wasabi and Namida to defeat.
After Deepa defeated Team 7, Wasabi and Namida visited Sarada in the hospital. They were surprised to see her in good spirits, but Iwabee grew concerned that their friends had lost their will to be shinobi. When they went to check on Boruto and Sarada, they discovered that the two had left the hospital without permission. Iwabee believed that they were seeking revenge for Mitsuki's capture, but Sakura suspected that they might have gone to join Konohamaru on his mission. When they arrived, they were relieved to find that Boruto and Sarada had decided to focus on improving their skills rather than seeking revenge. They had decided to leave the mission to the jōnin for now and prepare themselves for future battles.
After Boruto and his team emerged victorious in their battle against Deepa, Wasabi spent some time teaching Namida how to play Extreme: Shinobi Picture Scrolls. While playing, they noticed Denki engrossed in deep thought. Upon investigation, they discovered that Denki was working on an experiment to enhance radio communications. Wasabi and the rest of the group offered to help, and they worked together to try and improve the technology. Although the initial attempt failed, Denki was undeterred and remained committed to his goal of improving communications technology. Wasabi and her friends encouraged Denki's determination and cheered him on.
Wasabi paid her respects at the memorial service held for the fallen heroes of the Fourth Shinobi World War. Afterward, she went to the Training Hall to watch the sparring match between the Seventh Hokage and Boruto. She was impressed by Boruto's improved skill and also curious about Naruto's new ability to absorb enemy techniques.
After Isshiki's attack, Naruto organized another Chūnin Exam to boost morale and promote more chūnin. In the first written exam, Wasabi utilized her Cat Covering ability to acquire answers from her teammate Namida, enabling her to pass the exam. During the second exam, Wasabi had to rescue an injured ally from the Forest of Death within a time limit. Despite arguing with Iwabee over who found the same ally first, both completed the exam successfully. Wasabi was among the 10 genin who passed the exam and had to fight one of the other nine in a one-on-one battle for the final exam.
The following day, Wasabi trained with Tsubaki, but they ended early to avoid exhaustion before the actual exam. Tsubaki received a letter calling her back to the Land of Iron for a leadership position, which made Wasabi happy for her friend but sad about her departure. At home, Wasabi was embarrassed by her parents' premature celebration of her promotion.
On the day of the Chūnin Exam finals, Wasabi watched the first match between Inojin and Hōki from the spectator stands. During her own match against Iwabee, her normally outgoing demeanor was replaced by a more reserved attitude. Just before the match, her family came to see her and her grandmother gave her a scroll containing a legendary clan technique. Iwabee, noticing her lack of confidence, challenged Wasabi to dream big and accused her of being afraid to live up to her clan's expectations.
To motivate her, he created a giant cat out of Earth Release, reminiscent of a story her grandmother had told her. Although inspired by Iwabee's words, Wasabi became concerned when the statue began to collapse on top of him. She was able to use her clan's legendary technique to protect him and was declared the winner of the match when Iwabee couldn't stand up. Despite feeling exasperated by the nature of her victory, Wasabi thanked Iwabee for pushing her to believe in herself.
After Tsubaki's defeat, Wasabi and Namida comforted her in the infirmary, where she revealed her decision to stay in Konoha to continue learning. Wasabi was happy for her friend and joined her and Denki in celebrating their promotions at the Lightning Burger. During her official promotion ceremony, Wasabi was appointed team captain of Team 15.
The team was later assigned to test Kawaki as a potential genin for the village. While Kawaki showed great skills, his excessive methods during a mission traumatized a runaway child, which resulted in the client being angry at the team. Wasabi was furious with Kawaki's actions and urged Boruto to reason with him on what it means to be a shinobi.
In another mission, Wasabi and Tsubaki were tasked with stopping a former fellow pupil, Sazanka, who had turned to banditry and was attacking merchants. They worked together to stop Sazanka and his gang.
Wasabi and her friends went to the Academy's festival. However, when a terrorist threat was made towards the festival, Wasabi and some other former students stepped up to assist in handling the situation by removing explosive tags located in the vicinity.
When it comes to expressing her thoughts and feelings, Wasabi is not one to hold back. She's a direct person who speaks her mind and isn't afraid to voice her opinions, even if they're unpopular. Her motivation and energy are through the roof, making her quite a hyperactive individual. And like many girls her age, she has an eye for boys and a love for all things cute.
Wasabi also has great affection for her best friend Namida. But sometimes, she can get frustrated with Namida's shy personality, wishing she would be more outgoing and outspoken like herself.
However, despite Wasabi's usually passionate and outgoing nature, she's not immune to the pressures of her clan. With great expectations placed on her, she can get easily flustered and overwhelmed when they voice their hopes and dreams for her.
Initially, Wasabi believed that only those from exceptional lineages could become remarkable shinobi. But Iwabee's rejection of such beliefs made her reconsider her stance. It made her more determined to become a great shinobi, and she's now committed to working hard and proving herself worthy of her clan's admiration.
Wasabi's appearance is quite unique, with her fair skin, short spiky brown hair, and striking green eyes that have a distinct cat-like appearance. She even has pronounced canine teeth that add to her distinct look.
When it comes to her outfits, she's quite the fashion-forward individual. Her usual attire consists of a light green sleeveless hoodie that's cropped to show off a mesh top underneath. She pairs this with some puffy green shorts and adds a touch of playfulness with a cat tail attached to the belt loops of her shorts.
After graduation, Wasabi updates her look but still keeps her signature cat tail. Her new outfit features a sleeveless green hooded vest layered over a mesh shirt, which is paired with some brownish green shorts and mesh leggings. She completes the ensemble with some brown shoes that add a touch of earthy warmth to her overall look. And of course, her playful and quirky nature is still on full display with her ever-present cat tail.
Despite her young age, Wasabi's prowess as a shinobi is undeniable. She's proven herself to be incredibly skilled, even earning the rank of chūnin at a younger age than any member of her clan before her. It's an impressive feat, considering that most individuals in her clan only achieve this rank later in life. Her talent is truly something to behold.
She's a master of the Izuno Clan's secret technique, Cat Covering, which allows her to access various cat-like traits from her scroll. These traits augment her already impressive taijutsu abilities, making her an even more formidable opponent.
In addition to her combat skills, Wasabi has also studied basic Medical Ninjutsu, allowing her to heal injuries. While she's not considered particularly skilled in this area, she's taken special classes to become her team's personal medical-nin. It's a role that she's taken on with pride, and she's committed to improving her skills in this area.
Wasabi is also highly proficient in performing collaboration techniques with her fellow genin. One such technique is the Multiple String Light Formation, which they use to temporarily restrict even the most powerful of opponents, including the Sixth Hokage.
And, to top it all off, Wasabi is the first person in generations to successfully use her clan's Cat God Possession: Monster Cat Beckoning Technique. This technique allows her to summon a massive cat avatar that acts as an extension of her body, adding an entirely new level of power to her already impressive arsenal.

Wasabi also appears in the game, Naruto x Boruto: Ninja Voltage, and she is a playable character in Naruto Mobile.
It's worth noting that Wasabi's name is derived from the Japanese horseradish. It's a unique and fitting name for a character with such a distinct and memorable personality.
