Jaygarcia Saturn’s History

38 years ago, Saturn attended the Native Hunting Competition at God Valley. During the event, he was informed by an agent that a slave who attempted to escape was captured. Saturn confronted a young Kuma and used his abilities to incapacitate him.

Saturn told Kuma that Buccaneers were meant to be slaves, but became angry when Kuma expressed his intention to save people like Nika. Despite Saturn's efforts, Kuma later escaped the island after rescuing 500 people.

Dr. Vegapunk, recognized for his inventions in MADS, was invited to Mary Geoise for a meeting with the Five Elders.

Twenty years before the series began, the Five Elders communicated with Professor Clover, an archaeologist from Ohara studying Poneglyphs. Clover, knowing too much about the Void Century, prompted the Five Elders to order the Cipher Pol unit to eliminate him and initiate a Buster Call to destroy Ohara and its historians.

Less than fourteen years ago, Spandam convinced the Five Elders to give him the authority to find the blueprints for Pluton.

Six years ago, Saturn was surprised to learn that a new king had taken the throne of Sorbet. Four years ago, Saturn overheard a conversation between Bartholomew Kuma and Vegapunk about creating Pacifista and curing Jewelry Bonney, using a special Den Den Mushi. Saturn was disappointed with Vegapunk for not maximizing the situation but told his subordinates that he had his own plans.

To carry out his plan, Saturn sent Kizaru and a marine fleet with X Drake to surround Vegapunk's island. He had them use a Den Den Mushi to communicate with Vegapunk and Kuma. Saturn wasn't pleased with the agreement to make clone models of Kuma for the Pacifista project and to cure his daughter.

However, he agreed under three conditions: Kuma would join the Seven Warlords of the Sea, be modified into a human weapon under government control, and have his mind erased. Vegapunk was upset, especially about the third condition, as he believed it would essentially kill Kuma. Kuma, grateful for the chance to cure Bonney, accepted all conditions.

Saturn asked Vegapunk how long it would take to cure Bonney and modify Kuma into a weapon. The process would take about six months for Bonney to walk into sunlight again and a full year for Kuma's modifications. With this information, Saturn decided to make Bonney a hostage under government surveillance.

He threatened that if Kuma tried to contact her before his mind was fully erased or tried to escape, he would make Bonney a slave. Kuma accepted all conditions, only asking for the safe return of Bonney to the Sorbet Kingdom, which Saturn accepted.

A Marine reported to the Room of Authority that Shanks had contacted Whitebeard. Saturn agreed that their meeting could be risky, but the Five Elders moved on to discuss filling Crocodile's spot in the Seven Warlords of the Sea.

Long Ring Long Land Arc

The Five Elders were informed that Marine Admiral Aokiji went on his own, and Saturn questioned if he was on a sightseeing trip.

Post-Enies Lobby Arc

A report came in that Shanks had successfully met with Whitebeard, surprising the Five Elders.

Summit War Saga

Before the Summit War at Marineford, Saturn ordered Vegapunk to implant a self-destruct switch on Kuma. Vegapunk objected, but Saturn insisted, claiming authority. He demanded the removal of all of Kuma's will, citing his ability to detect deception as a fellow scientist.

Post-War Arc

The Five Elders discussed the aftermath of the Summit War, acknowledging Luffy's actions and Blackbeard's rise to power.

Fleet Admiral Sakazuki questioned the Elders about allowing Doflamingo to misuse the World Nobles' authority. The Elders reprimanded Sakazuki and were shocked to learn that Monkey D. Luffy and Law had taken down Doflamingo.

Levely Arc

During the Levely, Shanks approached the Five Elders. Despite their reluctance, they allowed him to discuss a particular pirate. Later, they headed to the Empty Throne and discussed King Cobra's request.

Saturn mentioned their inability to prevent events threatening the balance. At the Empty Throne, they knelt before Imu, requesting the name of the "light" to be erased from history.

Wano Country Arc

On the fourth day of the Levely, Saturn and the other Elders had a private meeting with Cobra, who had requested it earlier. Cobra talked about the World Government's founding and his ancestor, Nefertari Lili. When Cobra asked why her name wasn't mentioned anymore, Saturn said they didn't know because it was too long ago.

Cobra wasn't happy with their secrecy and asked about the Will of D., mentioning a letter from Lily 800 years ago. Before Saturn or the others could answer, Imu overheard and headed to the Empty Throne, shocking everyone.

After Imu answered Cobra's questions, Saturn and the Elders were ready to assassinate Cobra for seeing Imu. Sabo intervened, using fire to rescue Cobra. Despite their attempt, Saturn and the Elders transformed into shadowy monsters but failed to stop Sabo.

Cobra sacrificed himself, and the Elders noticed someone spying on them but couldn't capture them.

After the Levely ended, the Five Elders were in the Room of Authority discussing issues with Sabo and Vegapunk on Egghead. Imu called, wanting to test Vegapunk's Mother Flame invention on the Lulusia Kingdom. Saturn assured Imu they would prepare for the Mother Flame deployment and received orders to find and seize Nefertari Vivi.

They also talked about the Raid on Onigashima, giving orders to eliminate Nico Robin and have the Marines take control of Wano Country after the battle. They discussed the potential of the Gomu Gomu no Mi awakening, ordering Guernica to interfere in Luffy and Kaido's battle. Guernica sacrificed himself to let Kaido hurt Luffy, and when asked if it was worth losing an agent and upsetting Kaido, Saturn said it was better than dealing with the consequences of Luffy's fruit awakening.

However, their plan to eliminate Luffy failed. Later, they learned that the Gomu Gomu no Mi had awakened, and Kaido and Big Mom had both fallen. Saturn wondered how they could deal with this situation as there was no way to cover it up.

The Five Elders used Den Den Mushi to watch Uta's concert in Elegia. They discussed Uta being Shanks' daughter and saw her as a serious threat to the Great Pirate Era. Figuring out how to stop her rebellion, they hesitated to eliminate her due to worries about her connection to the Figarland Family.

They were also concerned about her ties to Tot Musica and couldn't take risks if she used it as a threat. The Elders stayed awake during Uta's performance by muting her songs. Rob Lucci later told them that about 70% of the world's population could be pulled into Uta World.

The Elders were shocked to witness Uta turning everyone, including Saint Charlos, into objects. Faced with too many casualties, they had to make a decision, even if a Celestial Dragon got caught in the crossfire. They saw Tot Musica, summoned by Uta, attacking Marine ships.

After Luffy and Shanks defeated Tot Musica, the Elders watched Uta release everyone from the Uta World through singing.

Egghead Arc

After getting orders from Imu, the Elders learned that Sabo was traced to Lulusia. The Lulusia Kingdom was destroyed by the Mother Flame soon after, which they saw as fortunate.

York, aspiring to be a Celestial Dragon, informed the Elders that Vegapunk was researching the forbidden Void Century. They sent CP0 agents to assassinate Vegapunk and all involved, including York.

Later, Saturn joined Marine Admiral Kizaru to personally go to Egghead and eliminate Vegapunk. Saturn considered the situation a shame. During a meal, he told Doberman to keep his presence secret and commented on an article about the Straw Hat Pirates attacking Egghead.

Doberman said the island's researchers had left, so Saturn ordered their evacuation ships sunk to prevent leaks. Doberman mentioned Jewelry Bonney being on the island, but Saturn wasn't concerned. He listened to York's call to the other Elders and was surprised to hear she was captured by the Straw Hat Pirates.

Learning that the Straw Hats captured York, Saturn told the Marines to prioritize getting York, Punk Records, and the power plant for the Mother Flame. Anything else was disposable if things got worse. Saturn talked with Kizaru about their plan, focusing on taking out Sentomaru and finding the Mother Flame's power plant. When Kizaru got moving and used the Pacifista to attack Sea Beast Weapons, Saturn was upset about losing the Sea Beasts as military assets.

As things spiraled out of control, with Vegapunk going down and Luffy facing Kizaru, Saturn got extremely angry. When Vegapunk tried to escape, Saturn took action. He ordered the Pacifista to stop and told Marines below the rank of Commodore to look away. Saturn used a Magic Circle in the Fabiriophase, causing a big explosion. He rose from it, revealing he was an Awakened Zoan Devil Fruit user, and anyone who looked at him had their head blown off.

Saturn, commenting on how long it's been since he was on the surface, watched Luffy and Kizaru's fight. Kizaru stopped Vegapunk from escaping, and Saturn, calling Luffy "Nika," confronted Vegapunk and his allies. He expected Vegapunk to be dead, but Jewelry Bonney surprised him by stabbing him in the chest.

When Marines tried to help, Saturn insulted them, claiming he could protect himself. He threw Bonney aside, healed instantly, and subdued Sanji. Saturn ordered the Marines to stand down, thinking Vegapunk had nowhere to run. He insulted Kizaru for being slow but acknowledged Luffy's unexpected presence. Saturn tried to kill Luffy, but Franky saved him with Strong Right.

Saturn told Luffy and Bonney their escape odds were slim, thanked Vegapunk for his contributions, and asked who wanted to die first. He held Bonney high, claimed Kuma's death was justified, and ordered Marines to aim for her head.

Jaygarcia Saturn’s Personality

Saturn values the balance maintained by the Three Great Powers. He wants to keep the World Government's image intact by keeping the events of the Void Century secret. Anyone studying it is immediately destroyed.

Saturn knows the significance of the Hito Hito no Mi, Model: Nika, and is willing to go to great lengths to prevent its awakening. He even views angering one of the Four Emperors as a better outcome than risking such a future. He sacrificed one of his best agents, Guernica, to prevent the awakening.

Saturn becomes anxious and unsure when global chaos is unavoidable, as seen after the downfall of Kaido and Big Mom. He doesn't know how to respond without covering everything up.

He doesn't tolerate challenges to their authority. Yet, unlike other Elders, Saturn seems to have some empathy for important figures with merit. He found it unfortunate that he had to eliminate Vegapunk and thanked him for his contributions. He also thought it was wasteful to destroy the Sea Beast Weapons but chose to keep the Pacifista for practical reasons.

Saturn has a low opinion of human lives and sees Cipher Pol agents as insects, believing casualties are acceptable. He is also racist, condemning the entire Buccaneers race based on an unrevealed past crime.

Saturn is extremely cruel. When he learned that Kuma and Vegapunk were discussing a cure for his daughter's disease, he saw it as an opportunity to use Kuma as a weapon. He forced Kuma to agree to lose his free will and become a government-controlled weapon.

Saturn then threatened to make his daughter a slave if Kuma ever contacted her or fled. Even after these demands, he insisted on a self-destruct switch in Kuma, claiming it was to stop him if he went out of control, showing relentless cruelty.

Jaygarcia Saturn’s Appearance

Saturn is an elderly man with a full white mustache and beard. He has white dreadlocks covered by a flat black hat, and a scar runs diagonally over his left eye.

He wears a black suit, a dark purple tie, a white collared shirt, and black pants. He also carries a walking cane.

Jaygarcia Saturn’s Abilities

Saturn, as one of the Five Elders, is among the highest-ranking World Nobles, holding immense power in the World Government. Only Imu outranks them secretly. Saturn controls everything from the Marines to Cipher Pol agencies, and even the Fleet Admiral can't challenge his authority.

He can order the destruction of islands through a Buster Call or deploy the Mother Flame on Imu's behalf. Saturn has the ability to manipulate global information and erase parts of history.

One Piece manga panel.

As an Elder, marines below the rank of commodore can't look at Saturn, and breaking this rule results in death. Known as the Warrior God of Science and Defense, Saturn is likely an expert in these fields. He considers himself a scientist and is confident in his knowledge about Bartholomew Kuma's cyborg modifications compared to even Vegapunk. Saturn's scar suggests experience, and he was willing to face an Emperor's pirate crew on Egghead.

Saturn showed high pain tolerance when Bonney stabbed him near his neck with a sword, remaining unfazed and noting he could have dodged it if he wanted to.

Saturn has displayed some unusual abilities, and it's unclear if they come from his Devil Fruit:

Saturn doesn't seem to age quickly; he looked the same nearly four decades ago during the God Valley Incident.

In his Zoan form, Saturn arrives by emerging from a "Magic Circle" on the ground, emitting black, Haki-like lightning and fiery energy. He can use an invisible force, resembling telekinesis, to injure, knock back, or immobilize people with just a look.

Saturn can also heal rapidly, as seen when a sword pierces him, and the wound vanishes within seconds.

Devil Fruit

Saturn has a Zoan-type Devil Fruit allowing him to transform into a horned, spider-like being with six legs. In this form, he's gigantic, strong enough to hold Bonney in one hand, and durable enough to withstand Sabo's point-blank Hiken without harm.

He can use his sharp legs for offense, attempting to impale enemies, and has a strong grip that can injure Bonney in her adult form.

Jaygarcia Saturn’s Relationship with Others

Imu

Saturn and his fellow elders revere Imu as the ultimate authority in the World Government. Imu is the current sovereign of the world and sits on the Empty Throne. Saturn and the elders answer to Imu's guidance, seeking approval for decisions such as erasing certain aspects of history.

Saturn shows extreme loyalty to Imu, following orders without question and even attempting to kill those who threaten Imu's secrecy, such as Sabo.

Sakazuki (Akainu)

There is tension between Saturn and Sakazuki, especially regarding the false news of Doflamingo's resignation from the Seven Warlords of the Sea. Sakazuki is outraged by the elders' decision to protect Doflamingo, even at the expense of the Marine's reputation.

Saturn, along with the elders, dismisses Sakazuki's concerns about tarnishing the Marines' reputation and instructs him to watch his tone.

Borsalino (Kizaru)

Saturn appears to trust Kizaru with handling orders from the elders. Kizaru serves as Saturn's personal guard during specific missions, such as the journey to Egghead to confront Vegapunk.

Despite allowing Kizaru to handle certain matters, Saturn expresses disappointment when Kizaru fails to carry out Vegapunk's execution efficiently, noting that he was slower than expected.

Kuzan (Aokiji)

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.

Saturn views Kuzan's decision to join the Blackbeard Pirates as a stain on the navy's reputation. Saturn seems to agree with his fellow elder's assessment of Kuzan's actions as detrimental to the navy's standing.

Monkey D. Luffy

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Saturn and the Five Elders harbor strong resentment towards Monkey D. Luffy due to his lineage as the son of the Revolutionary Dragon and the numerous disruptions caused by him and his crew.

These disruptions include saving Nico Robin at Enies Lobby, orchestrating the first mass breakout of Impel Down, intervening in the Summit War of Marineford to save Ace, and defeating powerful figures like Crocodile, Moria, and Doflamingo.

They acknowledge Luffy's strength, recognizing him as Garp's grandson and a significant threat to their plans. Fearing the potential consequences of Luffy defeating Emperor Kaido, they ordered CP0 to eliminate him. Despite concerns about angering Kaido, they prioritized Luffy's demise.

Their attempt to eliminate Luffy backfired when he not only awakened his Devil Fruit but also used this newfound power to defeat Kaido. Later, during Luffy's disruption of their plans at Egghead, they formally encountered him for the first time. Despite their efforts to extract crucial information from Luffy, they were unsuccessful.

When Saturn witnessed Luffy in his Gear 5 form and recognized him as "Nika," he attempted to kill Luffy, who was weakened from battling Kizaru. However, Franky intervened, thwarting Saturn's attempt.

Vegapunk

One Piece manga panel.

Saturn and the other elders initially welcomed Dr. Vegapunk after he won the Ibel Peace Prize. They enlisted him as a military scientist for various projects like the Pacifista program and the replication of the Mother Flame. Saturn closely monitored Vegapunk during his employment, even pressuring him to abandon his moral concerns. When Vegapunk tries to make a deal with the pirate Kuma to save his daughter, Saturn intervenes and reprimands him.

Years later, the elders, including Saturn, discovered Vegapunk's secret research into the forbidden Void Century through another satellite, York. Despite Vegapunk's valuable contributions, they decided to eliminate him.

Saturn, torn by conflicting feelings, saw killing Vegapunk as a shame due to his achievements but was still willing to proceed, declaring a cruel and painful fate for the scientist.

Kuma

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Saturn's history with Bartholomew Kuma goes back 38 years to the Native Hunting Competition on God Valley. Saturn oversaw Kuma and other slaves, confronting and attacking Kuma when he tried to flee.

Kuma questioned his treatment, expressing a desire to save other slaves like Nika. Saturn, in response, claimed Kuma deserved such treatment due to his heritage.

Keeping tabs on Kuma's life, Saturn discovered he had become the king of Sorbet. Learning about Kuma's plan to work with Vegapunk to cure his daughter, Saturn saw an opportunity to use Kuma and his clones as weapons.

Saturn devised a plan to force Kuma into becoming a Seven Warlord, threatening to make his daughter a slave if he refused. Ultimately, Kuma agreed to these terms to save his daughter's life.

Jewelry Bonney

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Four years ago, Saturn discovered Jewelry Bonney's existence and strategically used her as leverage to manipulate Bartholomew Kuma. Saturn sought to force Kuma into becoming a human weapon, devoid of memories and free will.

Initially viewing Bonney as a mere child who outgrew her usefulness, Saturn's opinion changed when she uncovered his history with Vegapunk and Kuma. In response, she stabbed Saturn, prompting him to retaliate by threatening her with a painful death for defying the government.

Sabo

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Sabo, initially unknown to Saturn, gained the attention of the Five Elders and Imu when he thwarted their assassination attempt on Nefertari Cobra at Mary Geoise. Exasperated by Sabo's escape and having witnessed Imu on the Empty Throne, the Five Elders marked him as their number one enemy.

Shanks

Jaygarcia Saturn in One Piece.
Still from the anime.

Despite being a pirate and considered an enemy, Shanks holds a unique position with Saturn and the other Five Elders. They show a level of respect towards Shanks, allowing him an audience inside Mary Geoise and making room for him in their political agendas. Shanks, despite his status, stands out as a figure acknowledged by the Elders.
