Pekoms in One Piece

Born on Zou, located on the back of the giant elephant Zunesha, Pekoms grew up as an infamous delinquent during his younger years. Seeking adventure and excitement, he eventually set sail as a member of the Nox Pirates, under the leadership of Pedro, around 13 years before the start of the main series.

Originally, the Nox Pirates were explorers in search of a poneglyph, which is a special type of stone tablet containing historical information. However, their activities attracted the attention of the World Government, resulting in the issuance of bounties on their heads. The crew faced numerous challenges during their journey, leading to injuries and discouragement among the members.

As the years went on, the situation became increasingly dire for the Nox Pirates, and Pekoms, along with most of the crew, decided to part ways with Pedro and Zepo.

Later, Pekoms' group arrived in Big Mom's territory, where they were saved, and ultimately, they decided to join the powerful Big Mom Pirates.

Ten years after they had initially set sail, fate brought Pekoms face-to-face with his former captain and Zepo once again. Pedro and Zepo had infiltrated Totto Land, Big Mom's territory. Unfortunately, they were defeated and captured by Big Mom's forces. Pekoms helplessly watched as Big Mom passed judgment on his old friends.

In a cruel and heart-wrenching turn of events, Zepo was forced to spin a roulette wheel that determined how much lifespan they would lose. Tragically, Zepo lost all of his lifespan and died. Pekoms, deeply moved by the situation, tearfully begged Big Mom for mercy on behalf of Pedro. His plea was somewhat successful, as Big Mom decided to cut ten years off Pedro's sentence, allowing him to survive for the time being.

During his time as a member of the Big Mom Pirates, Pekoms formed a partnership with Tamago and served under Big Mom's rule for many years.

Fish-Man Island Arc

On Fish-Man Island, Pekoms arrived to collect the candy tribute from its citizens. However, to his surprise, the citizens found him more cute than intimidating due to his beady eyes. They seemed enamored rather than frightened by his presence.

Upon learning that Monkey D. Luffy had eaten the candy, Pekoms informed Bobbin, another member of Big Mom's crew, about the situation. Pekoms then attempted to discuss the candy situation with Luffy, but Tamago interrupted their conversation.

Meanwhile, when Big Mom called Fish-Man Island, Pekoms was too scared to answer the call. Unexpectedly, Luffy answered the call himself and deliberately provoked Big Mom, further adding to the tense situation.

Before leaving Fish-Man Island with the island's treasure, Pekoms encountered Caribou, who wanted his stolen treasure back. Caribou attacked Pekoms with a gatling gun made from his swamp body, but Pekoms cleverly transformed into a turtle to protect himself from the barrage of bullets.

After reverting to his normal form, Pekoms dealt with Caribou easily, defeating him with a single powerful punch that not only broke Caribou's scythe but also knocked him out. Pekoms remarked on the overconfidence of Logia Devil Fruit users, stating that their belief in their invincibility becomes their downfall.

With the situation under control, Pekoms left the island with the treasure, accompanied by Tamago.

Punk Hazard Arc

Pekoms and Tamago watched a video broadcast from Caesar Clown on Punk Hazard, where he proudly showcased his dangerous weapon of mass destruction. To their surprise, the broadcast revealed that Caesar had managed to capture some powerful individuals, including Law, Luffy, Nico Robin, and Smoker.

Upon witnessing Caesar's eventual defeat in the broadcast, Pekoms couldn't contain his emotions and roared in response. Sensing the significance of the situation, Tamago instructed Pekoms to report the incident to Big Mom.

Dressrosa Arc

Sometime later, Pekoms, Tamago, and other members of the Big Mom Pirates set their sights on the Thousand Sunny, the ship carrying Sanji, Nami, Tony Tony Chopper, Brook, and Kozuki Momonosuke. These Straw Hat Pirates were attempting to return to Dressrosa, unaware of the impending danger.

Pekoms revealed that their primary objective was to capture Caesar, who happened to be on board the Thousand Sunny at the time. Determined to fulfill their mission, Pekoms and his crew were prepared to attack the Thousand Sunny to claim the elusive scientist and deliver him to Big Mom.

As the pursuit unfolded, Pekoms, Tamago, and another pirate named Capone Bege were taken aback by the resilience and fighting prowess displayed by the crew on the Thousand Sunny, who was humorously referred to as the "Curly Hat Pirates" due to Sanji's de facto captaincy.

Despite their efforts, the Big Mom Pirates were unable to apprehend Caesar, thanks to the tenacity and ingenuity of the Straw Hat Pirates on the Thousand Sunny, who managed to fight back skillfully and escape from their pursuers.

Zou Arc

Two days before Luffy's group reached Zou, Big Mom's ship followed them because they overheard their destination. Pekoms, a member of Big Mom's crew who is from Zou, decided to pursue them to retrieve Caesar, as Zou is his homeland.

When Pekoms and Capone Bege arrived at Zou, they found the island in ruins due to an attack by Jack. However, the Straw Hat crew had saved the minks (inhabitants of Zou), which made Pekoms grateful to them. He agreed to spare the Straw Hats from a dangerous mission if they handed over Caesar.

Bege, not happy with Pekoms' decision, shot him in the back. Even though Pekoms was injured, he used his Devil Fruit power to lessen the damage.

Nekomamushi arrived and questioned why Pekoms was hurt, forcing Bege to retreat and leaving Pekoms with the minks.

Later, when Luffy's group arrived in Zou, they learned about Sanji's arranged marriage from Pekoms. He revealed that Big Mom and Sanji's father arranged it, and the Vinsmoke Family is known for being notorious Underworld killers.

After reaching Zou, Pekoms told Luffy's group about Germa 66, an organization run by the Vinsmoke family. Luffy didn't care about Sanji's marriage but didn't want the Straw Hats to become Big Mom's underlings. He proposed that the Big Mom Pirates work for him instead, which angered Pekoms.

Pekoms explained that Big Mom was very powerful, and Sanji couldn't refuse the wedding invitation. If he did, someone close to him would be harmed. The wedding was a political move to unite the Vinsmoke and Charlotte families. Once the marriage was done, Sanji would no longer be part of the Straw Hat Pirates.

Despite Pekoms' objections, Luffy insisted on seeing Sanji and asked Pekoms to take him there.

During Jack's attack on Zou, the house where Pekoms was resting collapsed. But Pekoms used his special powers from the Devil Fruit to save himself. Luffy checked on him and then carried Pekoms on his back as they left Zou with the Sanji Retrieval Team.

While sailing towards Whole Cake Island on the Thousand Sunny, Carrot revealed that she had sneaked onboard the ship.

They learned from a newspaper about the Blackbeard Pirates attacking the Revolutionary Army's headquarters on Baltigo, which surprised everyone on board.

After going through a storm, Luffy cooked a meal, but the group didn't enjoy it much and Luffy had used up all their food, causing a food shortage crisis.

Marine Rookie Arc (Non-Canon)

After running out of food, the Sanji Retrieval Team became very hungry. They saw Fron Island nearby and planned to search for food there. However, Pekoms warned them that it was a Marine base. So, he and Pedro stayed back to guard the Thousand Sunny while the rest of the team used the Shark Submerge III to explore the island.

A few hours later, the others returned to the ship with a huge stockpile of food they had found. But Pekoms and Pedro, being left starving on the ship, ended up eating most of it within just 10 minutes.

Whole Cake Island Arc

A few days later, the Sanji Retrieval Team was famished and overheated as they entered Big Mom's territory. Luffy managed to catch a gigantic fish, saving them from starvation. They encountered a ship from Germa 66, and tensions arose until Sanji's sister arrived and healed Luffy.

Pekoms explained that Big Mom wanted Germa 66 as allies due to their advanced technologies. When questioned by Yonji, Pekoms kept his reasons for being with the Straw Hats to himself, and the two groups went their separate ways.

They later docked at Cacao Island, a place with buildings made of chocolate. Pekoms deceived a guard by claiming to have captured the Thousand Sunny and had a surprise for Big Mom. He informed the group that it would take a day to reach Whole Cake Island.

Carrot noticed people from different races living on the island, and Pekoms explained Big Mom's dream of creating a nation where all races could live together. He remained on the ship because he would be easily recognized but asked for a chocolate souvenir.

Luffy and Chopper explored the island, and Pekoms was furious when they got themselves in trouble.

Before the Sanji Retrieval Team returned to the ship, Pekoms was kidnapped by the Fire Tank Pirates, who wanted his help in assassinating Big Mom. Pekoms refused, and they took him to the edge of a cliff where Bege shot him, causing him to fall into shark-infested waters.

However, one of the Sun Pirates rescued Pekoms before he met his demise. He informed Jinbe, who had reported Bege's treachery to Big Mom.

Pekoms was then watched by Charlotte Praline and the Sun Pirates on the eastern side of Whole Cake Island. He became suspicious but was told to rest by Jinbe's crew.

During the wedding, the Sun Pirates tied up Pekoms on a rock as they planned to leave Whole Cake Island. He later escaped and returned to Sweet City.

After the Whole Cake Chateau collapsed, Pekoms informed the Charlotte Family about the Sun Pirates' departure and learned about the events at the wedding. He grieved over Pedro's presumed death and was surprised to hear about missing territorial sea slugs.

Pekoms decided to honor Pedro's wishes and help the Straw Hats escape. He captured Charlotte Brûlée to aid Luffy in escaping the Mirro-World. Pekoms disguised himself as "Nazoms" and told Luffy his intentions after Luffy defeated Charlotte Katakuri.

Pekoms took Luffy and Brûlée to a mirror leading to Cacao Island. He planned to go on a rampage in his powerful Sulong form, even though Pedro was not there to help him control it. Pekoms carried Brûlée while hiding Luffy between them.

On Cacao Island, Pekoms held Brûlée hostage with a gun as he activated his Sulong form. But Charlotte Oven heated up the gun, causing Pekoms to expose Luffy. Pekoms' crewmates overwhelmed him, and they planned to gouge out his eyes to deactivate the Sulong form.

Before they could proceed, Germa 66 arrived and attacked the Big Mom Pirates, interrupting the skirmish.

After the Straw Hats' escape, Pekoms' fate is unknown as he is not seen again.

Pekoms is a complex character with a multi-faceted personality. At first glance, he appears to have a short temper and can easily be driven to fits of rage. However, his intimidating demeanor is somewhat mitigated by his "cute" beady eyes, which makes him less frightening than he intends to be. Despite this, he can still be threatening when he lifts up his sunglasses to make his point.

His loyalty to Big Mom is evident as he, like many others in her crew, seems terrified of her. However, beneath this fear, he also shows a sense of duty and responsibility. He takes his job seriously, carrying around a list of bounties on wanted people and being vigilant about tracking down criminals.

Pekoms has a few distinct interests and traits. One notable aspect is his love for chocolate, which he doesn't hesitate to admit to others. Additionally, he takes pride in his own Devil Fruit abilities, and he expressed disappointment when Luffy didn't react to his fruit's capabilities being likened to diamond. He acknowledges that having a powerful ability doesn't make someone invincible, showing a level of pragmatism.

Beneath his grumpy and hot-headed exterior, Pekoms has a caring and compassionate side. He deeply cares for the people he is close to, as seen when he broke down crying when Pedro was almost killed by Big Mom's powers. He also has a strong attachment to his former home, Zou, which influences his actions and decisions.

Pekoms' sense of duty is further highlighted when he refuses to aid Bege in a plot to kill Big Mom, even though he is terrified of her. He upholds his principles, and he is willing to capture his own crewmate, Charlotte Brûlée, to honor Pedro's sacrifice for the Straw Hat crew.

His quirky habit of adding a roar ("gao") to the end of most of his sentences reflects his animalistic nature as a Mink Tribe member, showing how the behavior of his animal resemblance affects his mannerisms and speech.

Pekoms is a mink, resembling a humanoid maned lion. He is relatively tall, standing about one head taller than the 5'11 Sanji. His appearance is striking and unique, making him easily recognizable among the characters in One Piece.

His most notable feature is his beady eyes, which give him a cute and endearing look, even when he is trying to be threatening. To add to his confrontational demeanor, he often holds his fists up as if ready for a fight and hangs his tongue out of the side of his mouth, giving him a somewhat mischievous and playful appearance.

Pekoms typically wears a distinctive pink suit, which adds to his distinctiveness. The suit is complemented by black sunglasses that he often wears, enhancing his imposing presence. On his left ear, he sports a silver earring, adding a touch of flair to his overall appearance.

He is armed with a sword, which is usually seen hanging from his right hip. Despite his large paws for hands, he manages to wear small boots, specifically black high-heeled boots with white ruffled brims, completing his unique and stylish outfit.

Underneath his pink suit jacket, Pekoms dons a salmon-colored dress shirt, giving a splash of color to his attire.

In his last appearance five years ago, his outfit was nearly the same, but with a white undershirt instead of the salmon-colored one.

When Pekoms disguises himself as "Nazoms," he adopts a darker version of his outfit. He wears a luchador mask over his head, which features a star between two small horns at the front, further accentuating his intimidating appearance in this persona.

In his Sulong form, Pekoms undergoes a dramatic transformation. His eyes turn blue, and his mane and tail tassel grow tremendously in size, adding to his ferocity and wildness. His entire body becomes thicker and more muscular, further enhancing his feral appearance.

Pekoms possesses an impressive array of abilities that make him a formidable warrior and a valuable member of Big Mom's crew.

Firstly, he showcases remarkable agility, swiftly dodging the slash of Caribou's scythe with the speed of a Soru user, a high-speed technique used by some powerful individuals in the One Piece world. This agility allows him to react swiftly and retaliate just as quickly.

Secondly, Pekoms has displayed extreme superhuman strength, as evidenced when he knocked out Caribou, a powerful supernova pirate with a bounty of Beli 210,000,000, with a single Haki-enhanced punch. This level of strength is a testament to his physical prowess and combat abilities.

As a member of the Mink Tribe, Pekoms is a born warrior who can use Electro, a form of electricity-based Haki. This ability allows him to infuse his attacks with electricity, adding an extra element of power to his strikes and making him a formidable opponent in battle.

Pekoms is also capable of transforming into a powerful Sulong form by gazing at the full moon. In this state, his natural fighting abilities are significantly enhanced. However, he struggles to control this form, and it requires someone like Pedro to break him out of his mindless ferocious state.

Additionally, Pekoms possesses the Kame Kame no Mi, a Zoan-type Devil Fruit that grants him the ability to transform into a full turtle and a mink-turtle hybrid at will. In his turtle form, he gains a protective shell around his torso, allegedly as hard as diamond. This shell allows him to withstand powerful attacks, such as bullets from a Gatling gun, without showing any signs of damage. It also helped him survive the majority of Bege's assault on his back due to his quick reflexes in transforming in time.

Moreover, Pekoms is skilled in Busoshoku Haki, allowing him to imbue his attacks with Haki. This ability is especially effective against Logia users like Caribou, as demonstrated when he incapacitated him with a single Haki-enhanced punch. He also possesses Kenbunshoku Haki, or Observation Haki, which enhances his perception and awareness in battle, allowing him to sense the presence, emotions, and intentions of others.

Lastly, while Pekoms carries a sword, there have been no instances of him using it in the known sources. He briefly wielded a flintlock when he betrayed his crew to aid Luffy in escaping from Cacao Island, but he did not fire it.

Crew

Big Mom

Pekoms is deeply afraid of Big Mom and fears her to the extent that he hesitated when answering a phone call from her. Despite his fear, he is also devoted to the Big Mom Pirates and respects her authority. He begged Big Mom to spare his friend Pedro's life, and she complied with his request.

However, after Pedro sacrificed himself for the Straw Hats, Pekoms decided to betray the Big Mom Pirates in order to assist Luffy, indicating that his loyalty to Big Mom had its limits.

Tamago

Pekoms appears to have a relatively good relationship with Tamago, considering him as a crewmate and partner. They work together to collect the monthly candy tribute from Fish-Man Island for Big Mom.

Tamago seems to have some level of respect for Pekoms, as he hoped Pekoms could receive a pardon after surviving the events on Zou. However, Tamago did not hesitate to abandon Pekoms on Zou, suggesting that their loyalty to Big Mom outweighs their personal bonds.

Enemies

Capone Bege

Pekoms and Bege were sent together on a mission to Zou, but their relationship is characterized by animosity and distrust. Bege does not seem to care much about Pekoms and shoots him in the back when he sees Pekoms' personal feelings interfering with their mission.

Bege also left Pekoms behind without any remorse. Pekoms has a strong desire to settle things with Bege, indicating an unresolved conflict between them. Bege offered Pekoms a chance to join his assassination scheme against Big Mom, but Pekoms refused, leading to Bege's decision to eliminate him.

Jack

Pekoms harbors deep resentment toward Jack because Jack destroyed his hometown. This suggests a bitter enmity between them, as Jack's actions have had a significant impact on Pekoms' life.

Fellow Minks

Pekoms has an amiable and positive relationship with his fellow minks. When he returned to Zou and found his homeland in ruins, he was terribly shocked. However, he was overjoyed to find his fellow minks alive and well.

In turn, the minks welcomed him back with open arms and took care of him when he was wounded by Capone Bege. This indicates a strong bond of camaraderie and mutual support among the minks.

Sworn Brothers (Pedro and Zepo)

Pekoms was extremely close to his sworn brothers, Pedro and Zepo. They traveled together in search of poneglyphs, indicating a deep friendship and shared goals. Pekoms was devastated when Zepo was killed by Big Mom and tearfully begged for Pedro's life, showing his loyalty and love for his friend. Pekoms and Pedro had a unique relationship, with Pedro being the one who could keep Pekoms in line.

Despite feeling uneasy about Pedro tagging along with the Sanji Retrieval Team, Pekoms cared a great deal about Pedro's well-being. When Pedro seemingly sacrificed himself, Pekoms grieved over his presumed death and respected Pedro's sacrifice so much that he was willing to betray the Big Mom Pirates to honor Pedro's memory.

Pedro's presence was the only thing that could calm Pekoms' rage in his Sulong Form, further highlighting the depth of their bond.

Family

Pekoms greatly cares about the safety of his family members, particularly his parents. Seeing the devastation of his homeland deeply affected him, showing his strong attachment and concern for his family.

Others

Citizens of Fish-Man Island

Despite Pekoms' tendency to issue threats, the citizens of Fish-Man Island consider him "cute" rather than intimidating. Pekoms does not show much concern for the civil war that Fish-Man Island is dealing with, and he expects the citizens to fulfill their payment to Big Mom.

However, when he was attacked by Caribou and retaliated, the citizens of Fish-Man Island showed genuine concern for him and acknowledged his status as a fighter for one of the Four Emperors.

Straw Hat Pirates

When Pekoms first encountered Luffy, Zoro, and Sanji on Fish-Man Island, he was angered by them eating his captain's candy. This led to a tense and hostile interaction between the Big Mom Pirates and the Straw Hat Pirates. Later, when Pekoms and his crew encountered the Straw Hats near Dressrosa, they attacked them in an attempt to capture Caesar Clown, which further escalated the animosity between the two groups.

Despite the initial hostility, Pekoms' perspective on the Straw Hat Pirates changed when he witnessed the aftermath of Jack and the Beasts Pirates' attack on Zou. Initially, he suspected the Straw Hats were responsible, but after hearing the full story, he realized their innocence and the true culprits behind the attack.

Pekoms expressed his gratitude to the Straw Hats for their actions and offered to lie to Big Mom to help them escape in exchange for Caesar Clown. This showed a willingness to cooperate with the Straw Hats, indicating that he recognized their value and integrity.

While Pekoms appreciated the Straw Hat Pirates' help and showed a degree of friendliness towards them, his primary loyalty lies with Big Mom and the Big Mom Pirates. He still considers the Straw Hats as enemies due to Luffy's challenge to Big Mom's authority and his belief that they threaten the stability of the Big Mom Pirates. Despite his gratitude, Pekoms was annoyed when Luffy ignored his objections and took him to Big Mom's base against his will.

On the other hand, Luffy considers Pekoms a friend and cares about his well-being. He was willing to punch Bege for attempting to kill Pekoms and has shown a level of camaraderie with him. This friendship was further solidified after Pedro's sacrifice, as Pekoms chose to honor Pedro's wishes and assist the Straw Hat Pirates.

• Pekoms is a reference to the Mock Turtle from Lewis Carroll's novel "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland."

• He is the only confirmed mink to have eaten a Devil Fruit.

• Before arriving in Totto Land, Luffy used to mispronounce Pekoms' name, calling him "Pekomamushi," possibly due to the similarity with Nekomamushi's name.

• Pekoms is the first Zoan-type Devil Fruit user introduced after the timeskip.
